I remember the day my parents bought me my first android. It was my ninth birthday and it was wrapped in expensive birthday paper, the kind of paper that has the distinct odor of grandeur. You just want to remove the paper ever so gingerly. But of course, being nine years old and excited to receive presents, I grabbed it off the table and quickly demolished the fancy paper, leaving a mess on the kitchen table.
Avatar There was no escaping the heat during that summer. Only one front lawn in the cul-de-sac showed any sign of life and that was because a secret sprinkler showered the baked ground every night. In the morning the grass would glisten in the fresh light before evaporating into the morning air, little streams of water ran down...
My fingers twitch at the sudden new feeling of being alive. A blinding light shines above me and I try to adjust to the white I see.
It's hard to function and move yourself, when all you remember is waking up in a cold room surrounded by metal tables and blinding lights.
I turn my head to the side to see that the rest of the metal tables are empty. I scan the area, looking over the empty space before ...
Author's Note: This is an homage to the poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe ShelleyAmidst a flurry of multi-colored laser displays and droning bass notes, Oswald “Ozzy” Mondias strode confidently across the main stage and stood behind the podium, clicker in hand. A thousand flash bulbs held aloft by paparazzi and assorted tech and financial journalists popped in rapid succession. He posed, turning his gaze slightly upward and pouting his lips as he'd been coached to do by the publicists and consultants and makeup ...
"Hey, I've these bundle of photos and video cassettes!, Can you fit them in your suitcase? Jack asked his wife Ellie who was already overwhelmed with packing kids and her things.
"I'm already full, Jack! Go ask your boss to get you some extra space to carry stuff" Ellie replied.
She hated his boss for changing the location that they were living in for so long .
"You have a ...
“I have a friend. He keeps trying to convince me he’s a compulsive liar, but I don’t believe him.”“Good Opener, okay FEZ let’s go old school, a joke about marriage.”“My wife and I were happy for twenty years; then we met.”“Excellent, excellent, tell me a joke about winter.”“One snowman asks another, “Do you smell carrots?””“Stop FEZ, Open Delivery protocols, increase pause after ‘another’ by 20%. Repeat”“One snowman asks another, “Do you smell carrots?””“Much better, much better, right tell...
For the longest time my mind felt trapped in the spiderweb called wind. I was all alone in the middle of a dry empty plain where the sun shined high in the sky and the wind blew all the time. I felt compelled to collect the sand, but all of my attempts always ended once it sifted through my fingers and rode the air to places I’d never reach. I started to hate that place and decided the only other thing I could do was not...
This is going to sound cliche, but it was for really just a normal day. I woke up around six to sevenish. Made breakfast, brushed my teeth, and blah blah blah.. But right as I got to work, I felt my phone buzzing. But I didn’t have my phone on silent. So of course I didn’t check it, because I thought it would stop. And it did… but then ten minutes later, it started again. But again I couldn’t check, I was right in the mi...
It was still very hard for me to cope. I was a robot, an invention that can think of the smartest solutions in no time. Nonetheless, being around people, trying to act normal wasn't something an andriod could do very easily. I needed to act normal, just as any human would do. Or at least, any human my age. I was an eighteen year old boy who was actually an andriod. I needed to do something, I needed to hide my secret. My...
Never write an AI App while watching “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. Total disaster. Especially since I realized, as I placed the last 8 digits of code, that the thing had become partially sentient in the process, and had a ribald sense of humor to boot.
“Isaac” (It’s named after Mr. Asimov.) was supposed to be a help for short story writers, like me. When I said, “Isaac, give me a good name for a heroic knigh...
In this jungle of free apps to download, there are some which you should avoid at all costs. Specter is one of these apps. I am here to warn you about downloading this free app. I know, I downloaded this app three months ago and right away, my life has become something of a freak show. There is something they do not tell you about this app. Specter will develop self-awareness. I know this sounds cool, but f...
Of all the species I’ve come across, humans are certainly the oddest. They speak without thinking. They say things which they do not mean. They spend their money on frivolous nonessentials. They poison themselves. And the oddest of it all, they seem to find comfort in their self-destruction.How has this species come to inhabit the Earth for so long?My generation of Artificially Intelligent Companions was programmed to st...
The buzzing of neon lights echoes off the rusted steel walls of a cramped corridor. In the center of the hallway, a slender silhouette shadow boxes as a ruckus crowd cheers from beyond the rattling doors at the end of the corridor. The doors spark with electricity as they eventually open. A man squeezes through the widening gap. His wide shoulders emerging first as his bulbous stomach struggles to follow.“For fuck’s sake, Jack. I hate it when you do that shit. You synths-” the figure halts his shadowboxing as a piercing, lightning-...
The year was 3000. Gone was the way of suburbia. Everything was just a conglomerate of sleeping pods, small eating stations, and linking stations for humans to link to one another and their synths. The Station consisted of many of these small units in which the humans dwelt with their mates and offspring, many choosing to not have offspring at all and just have a small synth as a substitute. A synth was a robot or what ...
This is an excerpt from my new novel that will be coming out soon The Long Walk Home: EMPI lit my solar lamp and was just about to check the stove.“What the hell is that?” Jeb said, pointing at the lamp.“It’s a solar lamp.”“Why is it working?”“Because it’s solar?” I said.“But the EMP fried all that stuff. Why does yours work?”“I don’t know. I didn’t even think about that before. I checked i...
