Make It Blue! A Heroes of Olympus Story

*Burning Maze Spoilers*

It was five AM in the morning, but that didn’t stop Leo. 

He ran through the camp until he reached Aphrodite cabin. He knocked furiously, accidentally tapping out I love you in morse code.

“Pipes! Wake up!” He yelled into the door.

After about five minutes of nonstop knocking, Piper opened the door. 

“Leo, it’s five in the morning. What?”

Leo waved a piece of paper in her face. “Today, we are going to bake the largest cookie ever.”

“Can’t it wait a few more hours?” Piper yawned.

“No! We need to bake it today! That's the catch! It has to be completed by sunset!”

Piper groaned, but said, “Let me get ready. But tomorrow, no matter what, I am sleeping in.”

Next Leo ran to the Poseidon cabin. It took Percy a little while to answer the door, and when he finally did, he saw Leo and said, “What now?”

“Today we are going to the biggest cookie ever! And you are going to help!”

“Why at-” Percy glanced back into his cabin, and Leo spotted a blue clock on the wall. “5:02 AM?”

“Because we have to have it done by sunset! Now, come on! Lets go get everyone else!”

It took awhile, even with Leo, Piper, and Percy going around individually, but finally everyone was present. Nico and Will, Percy, Annabeth, Piper, even Hazel and Frank, who were visiting from Camp Jupiter. 

You could tell that the son of Hades was not a morning person. It had taken not only Leo, but also Will to get him up and going.

This was the first time The Seven had reunited at Camp Half Blood since Jason died. Everyone was upset about it, clearly, but they all put it aside to focus on the present.

Leo started dividing everyone up to get the supplies. Nico and Will shadow traveled to New York to get the dough, Percy and Annabeth went to the nearest convenience store to get eggs and butter, but also a lot of blue food dye, because it was at Percy’s insistence that the entire cookie would be blue.

They decided to make the cookie over by the dining pavilion, and soon Will and Nico got back from the city.

“Sorry we took so long,” Will said. “Lord of Death over here accidentally sent us to England.” Will plopped sacks of cookie mix on the table, then said in a bad British accent, “Enjoy your cookie dough, mates. Pip pip cheerio!”

Nico said, “Shut up. You were the one groveling. ‘Whoa, Nico, look! That guy is wearing an actual pork pie hat!’”

“I was not!” Will protested. “Although, we did see this weird guy, maybe sixteen or seventeen, walking around with a musket and thanking the Brits for staying neutral in the Civil War. Who knows what that was about.”

“That was pretty strange.” Nico said. 

Soon, Percy and Annabeth got back. Percy had somehow found an entire barrel of blue food dye.

“How-” Frank started. “Nevermind, I don’t want to know.”

Hazel and Piper ran out of the kitchens with all sorts of kitchen gadgets. Beaters, bowls, everything you could think of to make a giant cookie.

Percy rolled his barrel of blue towards the pavilion. Annabeth walked behind him, carrying eggs, milk, almond milk for Frank, and butter.

“Alright, everyone, let's get cracka-lackin!” Leo said and rolled up his sleeves.

Annabeth and Percy were in charge of mixing together the ingredients. Every time food dye would splash on to Percy's face, Annabeth would mutter, “Seaweed Brain,” and rub it off. Percy would mutter back, “Thanks, Mom.”

While they were making the cookie, everyone shared quest stories. Percy told about his adventures with Annabeth, and Frank and Hazel talked about facing hordes of undead at Camp Jupiter with Lester/Apollo. Leo shared stories about the Waystation, and of course, his travels with Lester.

Piper was just about to talk about her times with Lester, when the door to the Hermes cabin swung open. Calypso walked over to the pavilion to greet everyone.

Percy turned red and looked down at the cookie dough he was kneading, and Annabeth smirked. It was funny when her boyfriend did that, especially around Rachel or Calypso.

Cal pitched in, helping Leo prepare the baking sheet. It was huge, twenty feet by twenty feet. 

Percy kept looking down, his face as red as a lobster, which was so different from his hands, which were stained cobalt from the dough.

After about twenty minutes, he wasn’t blushing anymore, and he announced that the cookie dough was kneaded enough. 

It took everyone together to dump the huge bowl onto the baking sheet. It landed with a huge plop!

After their huge cookie was in the oven, they just sat and talked. Percy was frankly still a little surprised that Nico had had a crush on him. Annabeth, of course was proud of Nico for being brave. Nico was like a little brother to her.

Nico was clearly happy with the son of Apollo, even if they were polar opposites. Everyone could tell, they were perfect for each other.

Piper, Leo, and Annabeth said they were going to go check on the cookie. They left, and Percy sat, awkwardly chatting with Cal. He wondered why Annabeth had done this to him, and left him to die of awkwardness.

Seaweed Brain, you're already awkward. He imagined her saying. 

Then, he felt an unknown sensation, and his eyesight turned blue. He looked down, and he was covered in blue! Annabeth, Leo, and Piper had snuck around and dumped the blue food dye on him.

“Hey!” Percy said. 

Everyone started laughing so hard, including Percy. The son of Poseidon loved blue, and now he was blue.

Percy focused, and the blue food dye rose off the bench and made a beeline, splattering on Annabeth’s shirt.

She looked down at her shirt, then up at him. 

“Oh, Seaweed Brain, it’s so on.”

After that, the friendly conversation quickly deteriorated into a blue food dye fight. Soon, all the columns around the dining pavilion were splattered. Nico’s black and white aesthetic was ruined, but everyone was happy nonetheless. 

Percy looked around. “Oops…”

The timer went off, and Piper, Leo, and Cal ran to pull the cookie out of the oven.

Annabeth looked at Percy, who was thoroughly drenched in blue. 

“Here…” Annabeth ran off towards the Athena cabin.

Campers were starting to file towards the pavilion for lunch. 

Drew Tanaka shrieked, “What have you Dumpster people done?!”

“Just having fun,” Percy said, wiping dye off his arms. “Not that you’ve ever heard of it.”

“I have!” Drew said, turned angry red. Percy could almost see the steam coming out of her ears.

Percy made a little bit of the blue liquid splatter on Drew’s Gucci t-shirt. 

“Uhg!” She shrieked. “I hate you!”

She stormed off towards her cabin.

“What was that about?” Piper asked, seeing Drew stomp away. Her, Leo, and Cal had returned. 

Annabeth returned, passing Drew. She was carrying a disposable camera. “Jeez, Percy, whatever you did made her really angry. She didn’t even insult my hairstyle.”

Percy laughed. “I made her have a little fun.”

Annabeth rolled her eyes, but kept smiling anyway. “Everyone smile!”

She held up the camera in a selfie position, and everyone smiled, showing off their bright blue.

Snap!

“I think the cookie is cooled by now.” Piper said. “Percy, Annabeth?”

They followed her inside, and each grabbed a side of the tray. 

Leo whistled once he saw the cookie. “We did it. The biggest cookie ever.”

“We did.” Hazel said. “We did it together.”

Annabeth took a picture of the giant cookie.

They all broke a piece off of the cookie. Percy held his piece in the air. “To Jason.”

“To Jason.” Everyone said, and they enjoyed the fruits of their labors.
