The gate opened, Philip slowly walked out with a hanging head. This was the end, it had been a tough battle but victory had not come. His friends, Hugo and John had both been killed by the Protectors of ‘The Mother.’ Philip didn’t even know what that was, but it didn’t matter now. Clearly, messing with ‘The Mother’ must’ve been something bad, otherwise he wouldn’t be here, at the top of the pit.
It had all begun with him Hugo and John had climbing the volcano. They were about half way up when John saw some bones in the distance, so they had gone to have a look.
Human Bones, they were scattered everywhere. As far as the eye could see it was just bones, bones, bones. That was when their little trip was turned into an adventure.
It came out of nowhere, with a sudden thud, John fell to the ground, dead. There was an arrow sticking out of his chest. “Who dares disturb ‘The Mother’ and her sacrifices!” Yelled a voice from below. Strange men leaped out of hiding and grabbed them. “Throw them into ‘The Mother’s’ eternal fire!” One yelled, he appeared to be the leader. The warriors began dragging them up, to the top of the volcano.
Steam was rising in the air, they were getting closer to the crater now. Hugo was clearly pretty angry about this by now, so angry that now he was now screaming at them.``Um excuse me but who are you to think you can get away with killing our friend? Who even is this dumb ‘Mother’ anyway? Yours?” By now Hugo was really on the go. “You guys think you’re ‘so cool’ riding horses and saying ‘ Mother, Mother, don’t disturb the Mother!’ Oh and by the way ‘cool kids,’ having a tribe is not cool. Who do you think you are? A bunch of ogres defending your swamp? Well I think it’s time for change!”
Hugo babbled and fussed so much that he wasn’t aware of what was happening, soon, they were at the crater of the volcano. The volcano that he thought would be fun to climb would now kill him. “What is the worst thing you have ever seen? Your reflection?” He continued. Unfortunately, those were the last things Hugo would ever say, as he was thrown down the volcano. Hugo didn’t scream, he was still thinking of the next thing to say.
Philip gulped, he was next. “Throw him in!” The leader barked. It was then Philip remembered he had a knife in his pocket, whether he was going to use it was another question. Philip would never want to kill or injure anyone, but in this case he had no other choice (except death.) The next few seconds seemed to last for hours, Philip grabbed his knife, hesitated, then taking a deep breath, he stabbed. The man screamed in pain, Philip grabbed the chance, he bolted. Turning his head he could see the man he had stabbed fall into the volcano. Immediately Philip felt guilt wash over him, a weight on his shoulders he hadn’t felt before.
Philip’s mind began to race, what had he done? He was beginning to think of himself as a murderer. Then disaster struck, Philip tripped up and began rolling down hill. By the time he reached the bottom he was battered and bruised. Before he could stop himself he was closing his eyes…
They brought him to their camp, The Protectors had decided he deserved to die a more slow and painful death. That death was this pit that he was going to be shoved into. ‘The Mother’s pets’ is what everyone referred to the animals that lived in the pit as. “Shove him in!” The warrior yielded at the top of his lungs. Philip suddenly began to realise that he was jealous of Hugo and John, they had got the quick deaths. John had died instantly, and Hugo had been killed in seconds. Philip was going to go slowly and painfully. Goodbye world, thought Philip as he jumped into the pit.
Thud! Philip hit the bottom of the pit, he looked up at the roof closing up. He was trapped in here now. Something smelt like monkey, and bones. A stone landed on the floor, Philip froze. A chimpanzee steeped into the light, with a handful of rocks. Then another appears, then 5 more. Sone Philip found himself face to face with 50 chimpanzees!
Then they all attacked, throwing stones, biting, punching, they did all they were capable of…
And they were capable of killing someone, and that’s what they were doing. Philip wasn’t feeling the pain though, he was still filled with the guilt that he had killed someone. By now life was running out of Philip’s hands, the chimps seemed to be enjoying themselves. Then Philip was angry, angry like Hugo had been before he had died. Who did these men think they were, running around killing people. ‘The Mother,’ was probably just something they had made up as an excuse to hurt people. By now, anger was surging through his body, it was like a bomb had been deep down in his body all this time. Now that bomb was ready to explode.
Inside Philip, the bomb started to light. Then it blew.
“Enough!!!” He screamed, grabbing the nearest chimp and punching it with full force. The chimps stared at him in awe. Then one walked up to his feet, his and Philip’s eyes meet. Then the chimp jumped up and bit Philip’s nose. The others seemed to laugh at that, that set the bomb on fire again. Without warning, Philip grabbed a chimp and ran down the tunnel, choking it. The others ran after him squealing and roaring in rage. Then out of the corner of his eye, Philip sore another tunnel. He ran down it, without looking at the warning sign at the top. The other chimpanzee’s stopped in their tracks, all they could do now was watch as Philip fell to his doom.
Philip ran for another minute, the chimp in his hand wouldn’t stop screeching. Then he reached an opening, with a throne in the middle. Philip let go of the terrified chimp, who ran back the way he’d come. It was then that Philip realised he was back at the volcano. “Who dares disturb me?” Asked a voice, then out of the shadows came a vine. “Who are you?” Asked Philip. The reply made Philip shudder; “I am Mother Nature, or ‘The Mother.’” “oh I get it,” said Philip. “YOUR THE ONE THAT GOT ME IN THIS MESS!” The vine just shrugged (don’t ask how a vine can shrug, it just did.) “Your one of the ones that is polluting and cutting down trees, so we are cutting down you!” Said Mother Nature, a grin appearing on the face (again, don’t ask how a vine can grin, they just can.) “Now, bye, bye!”
Then a hole appeared beneath Philip’s feet and he fell down, down, down…
And added to a pile of old bones.
