It’s a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming and it’s not too hot. The shops were coming along great on the street and the new home owners seemed to be moving in and adjusting well. Then there was… “Um excuse me. Can you not walk there?” Someone interrupted my thoughts. “Oh. It’s you. How are you on this lovely day?” I asked. “I would be better if you didn’t walk there.” The woman stated. “Oh I see. However this is a sidewalk, so I can walk here.” I said smiling. “But it is part of my driveway until that line,” she said...

There it was again. That sound. The whistle of the tea kettle which meant he was here. Claire hated that sound because it always meant trouble. That high pitched hiss was mocking her. It was tormenting her. Asking her to come and look and see what’s there. Claire knew though, she knew what awaited her if she went to see. This time she would ignore it. This time she is going to fight back. It all started when Claire moved into her new house. She wanted a fresh start and knew the Duncan house was that. The Duncan house was a popular house in...

Just one more picture DJ thought as she snapped the picture with the camera and it made a clicking sound. Some sessions were easy and fun but others were rough and made her doubt herself. This client was a tough one. They didn’t want to listen and wanted certain pictures. DJ was all for letting them pose whichever way they wanted however the lighting had to be right. She tried to explain that to the client but the client insisted it would be fine to just snap the picture. Oh well, they get what they asked for. “Ok great! All done! Thank you ...

The wind blew hard and Jessie’s hair whipped around her face so she tucked it under her hat. The rain didn’t help either, she was drenched from head to toe but she had to keep going. According to the road sign she passed it was only a few more feet until she reached the town and she needed to get out of this storm. Jessie wrapped her coat tighter around herself and kept walking because she saw lights in the distance. Andrew finished wiping the counter when the door burst open. A tall figure leered in the door, dripping water on the welcome...

The door inside the house was a mystery. No one knew what was behind it. Some believed it was full of riches others thought it was a serial killer lair. There didn’t seem to be a key to fit it and locksmiths couldn’t make one for it. It couldn’t be knocked down or cut down. People in the town would try to open it but none could. It was said only the owner of the house could open it however the owner vanished years before. So the door inside the house remained locked and mysterious. Jack arrived an hour before schedule which was good he tho...

“You had the whole week off and you couldn’t even spend five minutes with her yet you take the other two for days at a time. You wonder why she doesn’t run to you or scream your name when she sees you. She doesn’t really know you anymore nor you her. You use to come over every weekend or every other weekend and spend the day with just her. You use to pay attention to her and play with her now it seems like your phone is more important. She asks for your attention but you give it to the other two more and she sees it. It not only hurts her bu...
Connections are everywhere and all around us. People, places, and objects all have connections. Connections can bring people together or drive them apart. They can be big or small, long lasting or short lived. Connections can happen fast or happen slow. They can withstand a lifetime or they can be severed. Connections are all around but what happens if they are gone. What happens when there are no more connections? “Yes mom I will be there.” Annie said over video chat. “Now which dress looks better, blue or black?” She asked holding them u...

Claire woke up with a jolt, sweating and breathing heavy. Not again, she thought. The dreams haven’t happened in a long time, they were supposed to be done and gone. Claire reached over to her night stand and grabbed her water bottle taking a big gulp. Maybe it wasn’t what she thought; maybe it was just a dream. Claire closed her eyes and went back to bed hoping for a decent nights sleep. The following morning Claire woke up feeling refreshed and she pushed the dream out of her mind. It was just a dream she kept telling herself. She made bre...

The first rain of the season doesn’t seem like much but the plants and flowers appreciate it. Some though find it annoying especially if they have plans that have to put on hold due to rain. Lily, on the other hand loved it when it rained because that was when the rain fairies came out. Not many could see them but Lily could. She would watch them prepare before the rain hit getting animals and insects to safety. Once the rain came Lily would watch the fairies dance and run around the droplets. Occasionally they would direct the rain to flowe...

Another day another dollar, isn’t that how the old saying goes? Well for Sandi it didn’t work that way. She would bust her butt all day and make half of what her coworkers make. It didn’t help her boss was a sexist and believed woman should be seen and not heard. Sandi was the best in her business but of course her boss didn’t see it that way, he thought of things the old way. The only real reason she was working here is because her mother asked her too. Sandi had enough though, she was going to quit. “Sandra,” her boss yelled, “Did you get ...

This isn’t my room. These aren’t my clothes. This, this is not my face Rae thought looking in the mirror. Looking around she noticed blankets on the windows and locks on the bedroom door. What is this place? Where am I? She went towards the window trying to look out but her ankle dragged on something, looking down she saw a heavy chain padlocked around it. What is going on? Scared she tried to scream but nothing came out. The bedroom door snapped open and a heavy set woman stood there staring at her. She was talking but Rae couldn’t make out...

“Are you coming tonight?” Maggie asked drying her hair. “What? I can’t hear you.” Mel replied. “Are you saying you can’t hear me to avoid the question or can you really not hear me?” “What? That hair dryer is loud I really can’t hear what you are saying.” Mel shouted. Maggie turned off the dryer and peeked her head out the bathroom door to look at her twin who was sitting on her bed reading. Shaking her head Maggie walked towards the bed and plopped down on it. Mel looked up at her sister smiled and then went back to her book. “Melanie! Come...

Fred looked down at the water in the lake, his reflection mirroring back his image. He ran his hand gently over the reflection causing the water to ripple. Fred liked it here, it was secluded and quiet and it gave him the opportunity to think clearly. These pass few weeks have been hectic on him, he was drained both psychically and emotionally. He didn’t know what to do, his Grandfather passed away and doing so left Fred his ranch, which didn’t set well with other members of his family, especially his cousin Ralph who believed he was owed th...

Sasha hated this time of the month, she dreaded it. The third Sunday of the month was the mandatory family dinner. Those who did not attend the dinner did not get their monthly allowance from the inheritance. For Sasha though it was no big deal because she had a good paying job and wasn’t just a freeloader like the others. She mostly went to these things to keep face and catch up on the drama. She did truly dread it though because she was still the single one and everyone gave her a hard time about it. It did not matter to the family that sh...

Destiny watched as the sun dipped down below the trees creating another beautiful sunset. She captured the moment with her camera then looked down at it to review the pictures she took of the maternity session. Destiny loved taking pictures around this time of day when the sun was starting to set; it created such a unique background. Pleased with the pictures and with the sun gone for the day she headed back to her car. She got in and sent a text to her babysitter letting her know she was on the way to pick up her daughter. Fifteen minutes l...
