ATRG #4: Betrayal (or is it?) and a Missing Man

Black = The angry part of Zetsu; Black Zetsu.

White = The happy part of Zetsu; White Zetsu

I hope that this is not offensive. I am very sorry if it is.

A shadowy house sits right on top of nowhere, far away from the bunker. A figure went into the darkened tunnel.

It was a masked boy, short and fast, walking down the tunnel. He passed though all the doors, phasing in and out of the shadowy hall. Then he stopped, and his face was thrown into light. Now his mask was orange, and the eye it curled around-was bright red. 

Then he started, faster, almost at a gallop.

He found a door, with locks, bolts, and chains.

He walked right through it. Suddenly, another person-it seemed- jumped right out of the floor. 

The boy was not shaken. He gestured to the person, who seemed like was wearing a Venus Flytrap. One side of his face was a permanent grin; the other, a ruthless scowl.

“Long time no see, Zetsu.”

“Same to you, Tobi.”

“We really missed you.”

The two parts of Zetsu’s face greeted the masked Tobi.

“We should get going, right?”

“Hurry up, Tobi.”

They rushed and slid into a musky, perfume-scented room.

A man, skeleton-seeming, looked up with an unimpressed face. Six people sat around him, looking like corpses.

“Pain.”

“T-Tobi.”

The man did not stutter out of fear; he stuttered because of his dry lips.

“Is the plan ready?”

“Yes.”

“Of course, Leader~Sama!”

Tobi merely nodded.

“Well, did the attack work? Did you g-get one of them-” 

Pain coughed violently.

“No.”

“Come on, Black Zetsu! We did infect one-”

“Shut your yap! We infected the immortal one! Can’t you see, White-”

“SILENCE!”

They looked at Tobi, who was staring at them.

“Look, I realized that we have failed. So, we have to go- in person. Plus, it’s our only chance to get Konan back.”

Pain rasped “Yes. Konan. We have to get her.”

He banged his hand on his chair, and the six figures next to him awoke.

They melted out the room the exact same time Zetsu and Tobi did.

I paced around the room for the gazillionth time, then sat down next to an anxious looking Itachi and an eating Kisame.

“Itachi-I understand if you want to go get something too-”

He cut me off.

“No thank you...I’m not hungry.”

We stared at each other.

“Can I borrow this?” I whispered to Itachi, pointing at his book.

He hesitantly nodded.

“Will. You. Stop. Eating!” I said, reaching over and smacking Kisame. “Your friend is in the emergency room now, and all you do is eat!”

Kisame sheepishly put down his sandwich. Itachi shot him a “Sorry! She’s crazy” look. 

It had been an hour after Zetsu had left to get healing plants and Konan was telling us about Hidan. She had said

“I know Hidan’s immortal, and I know that he’s gotten sick before. But- fuck! I can’t understand why his body’s not fucking responding to the medicine!”

Konan was usually calm and collected, so I knew she cared about Hidan.

Deidara and Sasori walked in, intertwined, Deidara looking distraught. They sat down next to me, and Deidara turned around to face me.

“I-I heard the news. Hidan’s usually durable enough, un. I just-just don’t know why he won’t get up! This isn’t Hidan! There must be something wrong! I-” 

He put his face in his hands.

Sasori hugged Deidara, and looked at me.

“Kama...I know I’ve been kinda rude to you...But can you do me a favor? Help me talk to Kakuzu. He-he’s been looking and probably feeling like shit. He’s my best friend, and he really, really likes Hidan....please Kama.”

I looked at his big, round, glassy eyes, and I couldn’t say no.

“Alright...I’ll try.”

I turned gracefully and vanished out of the room.

Zetsu scooped up another handful of plants. Tobi’s words, ringing in his ears, were replaying every time he plucked a plant.

“The girl! The daughter of Hatake Kakashi! The seven tail’s Jinchūriki! She joined their team! And you. You! Zetsu! You are in that team! So find a way to lure her to Leader~Sama!”

White was begging Black to give up and protect Kama. Black was fiercely loyal, however, and refused to disobey Tobi. (He actually kinda liked Tobi too...But love is for weak shinobi!)

Zetsu shook his head.

You did not hear what I thought.

I won’t tell~

Shut up.

Fine. I actually like Tobi too.

Wow, first time agreeing on something.

Yeah….

They fused through the floor, each feeling a little closer, but somehow farther apart at the same time.

I wheezed and clutched my chest. I’ve been running around the bunker all day, trying to find Kakuzu.

“S-shi-”

Kakuzu had been missing ever since he carried Hidan in. I was worried. He might have been a greedy old miser, but deep down, he was nice. Still not willing to give away his money, but nice.

I collapsed on the muddy floor. Running around tens times while frantically shouting took a lot of effort.

And I still don’t have my power…

I started to get up and try again to find Kakuzu, but my arms gave out, and I smashed into the pavement.

What the…?

The last thing I smelled was healing herbs.

“What the fucking hell.”

“Beautiful language.”

I opened my eyes.

Sasori sat on a chair, next to Zetsu, who had probalay come back from herb picking.

Dryly, Zetsu said “ Overworking your muscles can be fatal. Your lucky that you didn’t smack your head.”

Sasori said “Please don’t hate me. I never thought you would push yourself too hard..”

“I don’t hate you. How’s Dei?”

Sasori grimaced.

“Still kinda bad, though I did cheer him up a little.”

“YoutwoAreSocUteTogether!!”

Zetsu almost dropped the medicine for chicken pox on the floor. Sasori blushed. Then he asked “Did you find Kakuzu?”

I averted my gaze from him.

“No.” 

Sasori started.

Then Konan burst into the room.

“HAS ANYONE SEEN THE MISERABLE MONEY MAN?”

I swallowed.

“He isn’t anywhere!”

Swallowed again.

A horrible thought had came into my brain.

Kakuzu might have went on his own to fight the slime monster.

Kakuzu, getting killed by the sickness that Hidan has.

Losing Kakuzu…

I threw up.

“Wha..What do you want from me..?” 

Kakuzu managed to pant. 

“Tell me about the girl. With the silver hair.”

“Why the hell should I?”

“I’ll let you see the light of day again. And see the one you love most.”

Kakuzu did not like the sound of that. Why should he trust a red head skeleton, and Mr. Orange Lollipop? Why would he betray Kama? Or Hidan?

“Why the fuck did I even get myself caught?”
