Always Lei, isn't it - Experiments Part 2

All the TV’s in the kingdom turn on to this channel, drawing the attention of all faeries.

What could possibly go wrong?

10. Where is she?

She is definitely not in the faerie kingdom, figuring that out quite quickly after the non-winged faerie snatched her up. At the moment, the non-winged faeries (let’s call them NWFs) took her inside a gray pod that had spinny things on the bottom that made it move. They were racing along a gray, artificial-looking ground among other pods at slow speeds. The NWFs started chattering in an unknown language, Lei’s brain picking up words like ‘faerie’ and ‘not’, which probably meant that they knew Lei was not like them. 

9. What are they?

Lei has no idea what they are, looking like faeries, but having no wings and not pointed ears. They don’t even speak the same language. 

They are speeding along the gray ground, with one of them at a circle that turns in the front. It has a little symbol on it, which kinda looks like the ponies back in the kingdom. Next to the spinny-thing, there are millions of little buttons that Lei has no idea are for. They could be speed controllers, self-destruct buttons, or one to make milkshakes for these bizarre creatures. Who knows.

8. Where are they going?

They used to be in the forest, where Lei had felt a bit more comfortable, but now they were emerging into the most miserable place she has ever seen. Tall, gray buildings stretched up into the sky, with hundreds of black, white, and gray pods speeding around. Lei is getting a bit afraid if one of them crash into each other like dominoes. Beyond the Gray Acropolis, there were what seemed like dwellings, but much, much, much bigger. The worst part was, all the nature is gone. Nada. No. Just gone. Well, there are a few trees and flower bushes here and there, but other than that, it was gray and miserable. Oh, how miserable. 

7. THE NOISE

The NW’s seem unaffected. Lei, however, is struggling to deal with the chaos. So. Much. Noise. Honking that were mysteriously coming from the pods. NWFs shouting in their unknown language while shaking fists. A far away building that is spewing unhealthy amounts of smoke into the air while shaking around like it’s having a seizure. Lei’s ears are used to the peacefulness of the kingdom, so the racket here was like a gaggle of geese fighting with a group of tigers. Lei slaps her hands over her ears, squeezing her eyes shut. For what seems like an eternity, the noise fades to the background, the NWFs driving toward the smoke-emitting building. 

Darn it.

6. What are they saying?

Lei is starting to get worried about what the NWFs were saying because they kept shooting worried glances at her. Well, except for the large female one. There were 4 people in this pod: a young male, an older male, a large male, and a large female. The large female was giving Lei a look that Lei might have given to a squashed fly. The older male didn’t really notice that Lei existed. He was just staring at a mini tablet. That’s what it looked like, anyway. They were driving this pod closer and closer to that building, with Lei’s fate in the hands of these creatures. 

5. Oh no.

This probably raced through Lei’s mind this whole entire time, but this moment had to be labelled as Oh no. The NWFs stopped the pod, and helped the young male out, with the jar containing Lei inside the little male’s hand. Lei could see every tiny vein in his hands, which were quite chubby by faerie standards. Faerie hands are smaller than NW’s, so wouldn’t that mean...ah, forget it. Once all the NWFs were out of the pod, they started walking inside the building. Outside was very bare, with cacti, dust, sand, and more dust. So much dust. Anywho, Lei would much rather stay out here than go inside that polluting machine with the NWFs. 

But does Lei get any say in this?

No.

4. More NWFs

This is running through Lei’s head like you would say, “Ugh, more mosquitoes.” These NWFs are everywhere! There is no hiding from them. The family of NWFs walks up to another NWF wearing a lab coat, like the one Lei wore in Year 7 of school. They started talking, the lab coat one glancing at Lei worryingly. All of a sudden, the lab coat NWF bends down to grab Lei’s jar from the young male. 

Oh no oh no oh no 

He grabs her jar, then waves his hand at the NWF family. They walk out of the door, leaving Lei with the lab coat guy.

Always Lei, isn’t it.

4. Labs

The lab coat NWF walks Lei into a ginormous lab. Test tubes are everywhere, bright chemicals are bubbling in jars, complete with the NWF smirking sinisterly. He sets Lei down on a counter and runs over to a tablet. He types rapidly, his fingers zipping around the keyboard faster than Lei could fly. Then he comes back to Lei, still smiling like he knows more than her. Well, he probably does. He opens her jar and dumps Lei into an empty fish tank. Lei shouts at him, “I am NOT a fish! Could you do that more gently next time, mister?” He just smiles, scoots his stool towards Lei, and starts talking. 

3. ??!!

“Hello little faerie,” he said. Lei’s eyes shoot open in surprise. She can understand him! How can she? When did he find out? How--

“Okay, so Ben brought you here for a reason,” he says. 

“Who’s Ben?” Lei asks.

“Oh, Ben is the little boy that was holding your jar,” he says, looking at his fingernails.

Time for questions

“How do you I’m a faerie? Why do I understand you? W-ww…?” Lei asks, in disbelief, stuttering at the end. 

“Oh, I have ways,” he says. “But back to the point, I need to...borrow you for an...experiment.” 

Lei’s anger was growing.

“Oh no, I am not being a part of another experiment mister, you’re gonna have to explain what this experiment is--”

“Miss Faerie, this is just a normal, kid-friendly experiment. One that always happens in movies,” he says.

Oh no.

2. NWFs are the worst

He walks over to a tall compartment that looks like a torture chamber. 

“It will include you going in here.”

“Oh gosh, I am not going in there. Tell me what you want to do,” Lei says, crossing her arms over her chest. 

“Hmm, let’s see how to put this,” he says. “So, I want to see how...tough you faeries are. Yes, that’s what I want.”

His face looks like he’s convincing himself.

“Exactly that?” Lei asked, still suspicious of his intentions.

“Yep. I think so,” he says.

Not exactly trustworthy.

But sometimes in life, ya gotta take risks.

1.Why Did Lei agree to this

He tells Lei to step into the chamber, and close her eyes.

“You better not be lying or else I’ll...” Lei says, getting more nervous every single second.

“Oh, you’ll be fine. Well, that’s assuming you do it right,” he says.

“What does that mean?” Lei asks, her bones shivering. 

“I might have...tweaked my explanation of my experiment a little bit,” he says, trying for a forgiving smile.

It does not work.

“What do you mean you tweaked the explanation a bit?!” asks Lei with outrage.

“Promise you won’t freak out if I tell you?” he asks.

Lei looks him in the eye.

“Fine.”

“Okay, so my actual experiment is seeing how much pain you can handle without bursting into stardust,” he says.

Lei is panicking.

“WHAT?! Why would you do that?”

“I don’t know, that’s what people do these days, and if I want to keep my job, I’m gonna have to do this. My boss says so,” he says.

“No no no no NO,” Lei says. “I...NO. Help me get out of this chamber. Now.”

He gives Lei a downhearted smile.

“Sorry, bosses orders,” he says.

He slides his hand on a lever.

That can’t be good.

“NO please!” Lei cries, tears streaming down her face.

“Bosses order.”

He pushed down the lever.
