Into the mist...

I clung to Milf, my tiny dog, who was panting heavily, while I rushed through the rain. To the woods which was outside the enchantment limitation.

The cold rain dripped from my damp hair, making it hard to see.

I ran into the mist, and didn’t notice it for a while.

Milf’s pant was becoming faint; he was losing blood from the wound on his leg. I was losing blood too, from my arm, but it was nothing bothersome.

They were getting closer, I could hear them stomping through the mist.

I noticed the vegetation changing; the woods were nearby. I had to reach the woods before they caught up with me. I had to reach the woods and sent the distress signal to Mintal and Bric. It was my only hope.

Everything in front of me started to blur and sway. The poison was starting to act. My eyes dropped, my steps swayed. My head, my legs and Milf were getting heavier and heavier. But I kept on going because their shouts were getting nearer.

I dragged myself forward. Sensed the restriction fading away. Sent the distress signal.

I fell down.

I tried to make Milf feel better with a spell. But one look made it clear that it was too late. No magic could work a miracle.

Tears swelled up in my eyes. I winced when I thought how Mintal and Bric would react. Milf never understood life and death. He would be confused now.

My lip trembled and I shook all over.

Mintal and Bric appeared, they froze for a second, staring. Mintal overcame the shock and lifted Milf and me up, shaking. Bric just stood there, getting paler and gawping at me. Milf sniffed and pushed me with his tiny nose.

I stared at those stares.

I heard the shouts getting louder. They were not important now, the war was sure to range on but it didn’t bother me for the same reasons as before.

I looked at Mintal, Bric and Milf, my little pack of friends, my actual family... and beamed through my tears

as I melted into the mist...

I don't think I've actually read anything with flash fiction before. Just like everything else you've written, it's QUIRKY

I thought this story was wonderful. You did a fantastic job writing it. I know you said it was short, but I thought it was really good. I liked your choices for names, and the creativity was genius. I have a hard time coming up with names myself. Great job :) I look forward to your next story.

Here's a new thread that's less chaotic:D

Omg yay!! I'll read it and leave a comment when I get a chance!

I completely agree!! Interesting thing to notice

Wow, that's actually a really amazing idea!! I'll definitely be doing that. Thank you so much!

I did read that story! That's so cool!

That's a lot to handle, I'm sure you can do it though:D

Yeah, they work well together.

Haha, yea, I did. It did seem impossible. I'm a very ambitious person and I thought it would be a cool accomplishment I could talk about and maybe even prove to some of my doubters that I can write:D Anyways, it was a little difficult. A lot of people take the entire month of October, maybe even more than that to plan their novel, aaaaand I discovered what Nanowrimo was a week before it started. So I took that week and planned as much as I could(which wasn't very much) and dove into the deep end. I did the minimum every day. 1700 words each day. I had to look at it that way instead of seeing it as 50,000 words in one month. I ended up telling my family, including my dad, who really likes reading and is always interested in my writing. He kept me motivated a lot, but it was also me telling myself "just keep going." I started experiencing a bit of burnout around the 20th, so nearing the end, and every day would have the thought of just quitting. I was exhausted, I was busy, my family was at my house for thanksgiving and I never felt like writing. But I did it anyway because I was already 35,000 or so words in. I definitely think it was a positive experience and improved my writing, even if I am still experiencing burn outXD sry for the rantXD

Me too! I'm out of questions thoXD

Oh! I have one! How do you flesh out your characters and build their personality?

Thank you!!! I hope to see you're novel on amazon or in a book store one day:D

=D

Sorry that I couldn't answer earlier, I was in a whirlpool of confusion while I got stuck in my current short story! But it's basically just that I have so little connection to earth, I forget everything!, so, I am so sorry!

Wow, one thing I am sure of, I will never complete NaNoWriMo, I am slow as a snail on a sloth!

Hey, I don't care about rants, I love talking (er, typing?) If the person I am talking to is sensible, that is. Didn't you notice, I rant a lot too, so I don't care if your reply is a km long, rant on!

Hey, so you still have the manuscript with ya?, actually you said that you didn't know what to do with it!, maybe you should give it to an editor or edit it yourself!, then maybe publish it or something..., I am sure that it will be great with some polishing.

So, how do I flesh out my characters?

I do something like the present-past-future method.

(This is for novel characters, for short stories I will say below)

The present part
I will take a paper and write down all their behavior quirks, maybe some of appearance, and their motivation and also their plot chart (how do they influence the plot and how the plot influences them)
If there are five characters, I will write all that in five separate papers and then read through.
Then I'll make paper balls out of those papers and throws them away.
Then I will take a book and write down, what i remember, what that is rational, for each character.
If it is a main character, I will do the paper ball throw again and elaborate, it creates authenticity, you know.
And ofcourse the main characters will have something more detailed than others.

The past part
I write their history, typically, I will ask a why for every quirk and then jolt the answer down, then I will arrange them chronologically.
Then, I will do the paper ball throw and write again, what you write first is never authentic.

The future part
This ones only for main and some secondary characters, I write the plot summary before character building, so I will have that at hand.
And I will write a summary of the story from each character's perspective.
The paper ball throw again

After all that I will be left with some cool characters and a cramped hand.

For short stories I will skip the future part and do everything else's miniature version. Past part is also often avoided.

So how do you do your characters, can't wait to know!

Bye, happy today, Luna!

Haha, that's alright!!

That's ok! You could try camp nanowrimo? It's during the summer(july and august I think?) and it's the same as the November challenge except you set your own goal. So as big or small as you want, just to motivate you!:D

Me too! Yeah, rants can be quite interesting! Glad you don't mind;)

I've thought about trying to finish it off. I forgot to mention the fact that I didn't finish my novel in 50,000 wordsXD It's quite confusing because halfway through the month I decided to add a second perspective to my story. That threw everything off considering I had to go back and write corresponding chapters with my new character perspective to go with the first character's perspective (if that makes any senseXD) So I actually only wrote 7 chapters per character throughout the month, with the average length of my chapters being 2,000-3,000 words. Sometimes being closer to 4,000. I don't know how to finish it off and write now it just feels like a lotXD I would love to publish it one day...if I can sort it outXD

your way to flesh out novel characters is very interesting!! I'll have to try that...it sounds very thorough and efficient!

Oh gosh, I guess I don't really have a process...I often end up writing down the basic things about my character(starting with main, listing appearance, short description of personality, style, etc.) and then after that I start on a similar process to yours. I'll write a backstory first so I can get to the core of my character. After that I look for the reason my character is important to the story. Then I usually end up downloading a template from google and filling out all those questions. Sometimes if I want to really be invested in my character and get to know them really well, I'll go through that process and then take a bunch of BuzzFeed quizzes as my character, trying to answer the questions how I imagine they wouldXD

Bye!! It's so fun to chat with you!

Hiya!

There is a camp NaNoWriMo? I never knew, silly me.

I guess you are more informed in the WRITING FIELD than me.

I should try the camp, maybe you could too, you know, to sort out your novel.

Em, I can only give you one suggestion for clearing a messed up manuscript, you know, I am not much of a brainiac, well the suggestion is-

"Don't be afraid to kick out the words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters or even perspectives that the novel doesn't need."

Ok, that's pretty rude and someone, I dunno who, called it murdering children, tru actually, when you take in their cries and pleas and claims stating that nobody would notice a small bugy paragraph in a good novel, you will hesitate to kill. (Er, I tend to use too much imagery and personification in talking, sorry!)

Yeah!, rants are marvelous! That's why I rant a lot in this reply (sorry) XD XP

Oh, my way for crafting characters also has its negative sides, for example it is hard work (er, news flash, I am really lazy XD) and it comes around pretty slowly.

Your way is cool too, 'cause I think it suits you, I think we should stick to what works for us, anyway do try out the present-past-future way too, it's sometimes really fun.

I love talking with you too! #high five# (er, don't leave me hanging? XP XD )

And can I ask two doubts I have?

1-what's a collab, i have seen that tag in some stories but i can't make the meaning out.

2-Did you make your profile pic in canva? That pretty much looks like a canva element, anyway I love the color palette, do you like purple?, my second favorite colour is the one between purple and raven black. (First favorite- black black black)

3- what's your favorite colour?, I know I said two doubts and that this is a question we would have asked each other in kindergarten but........., what's your favorite colour anyway?, XP XD X) =)

Bye!, Happy today, Luna!

That's alright!

I learn more every dayXD I only know about the nano stuff bcuz when I decided to commit it I spent a lot of my procrastination time surfing the website and forumsXD

That'd be fun! Lmk if you end up doing camp, bcuz if you make an account we can be writing buddies on the website(basically just friend/follow each other)

That's an interesting way to think about it!! But I like what you're saying!!

Lol, I do too, so it's alright:P

Yeah! I'll definitely try it out sometime!!

Me too!! *high fives back*

A collab is a collaboration between at least 2 authors(usually just two, but I'm sure ppl have done more) basically, you either write the story together(with your partner) or one of you writes a POV or a part of the story and the other writes the other POV or the other part.

My friend Sapphire(she's on reedsy) actually made it for me!! I know she was taking requests, and if you wanted she could make one for you! Or you could attempt it yourself!
Thanks:D I really like pastels and ombres, but purple, blue and yellow.

I guess I already sorta answered this, but pastels and ombres, basically any color:D

bye!!!

That's cool!

And I am glad that you wasn't nagged about me asking doubts!

Oh, does Sapphire draw? I actually did make my profile pic, but I did it in ms word, who knew ms word could also be used for digital art?

Purple, blue and yellow, and pastels and ombre, makes me thing of a magical(pastels and ombre) full moon(yellow) night(Purple, blue). Awesome colours! I am going to use those in my nest sketch(it you don't mind)

Sorry for not answering before actually!

I was in a rush with this weeks story and almost broke my ankle.

Literally

By the way have you got any injuries by rushing?

I once slipped on the stairs, rolled like a bowling ball and landed on my head. (Was going to get a piece of chocolate) it was exiting at first, then it was horrendous.

Anyway the story's out now (wish me luck, but don't say 'break a leg'!)

Bye, happy today, Luna!
