My name is Delilah Bloom, and this is a story that should serve as a lesson to you all about lying. It’s something that you should under no circumstances do.

I had a very ordinary life in DownTown. I helped my dad, Oliver Bloom, making bread and baking for his bakery, and I was in charge of delivering every day the king’s special bread order. I knew King Jeffrey and his son, Dylan very well, but I never liked him. He was always lying and stealing and was an unpleasant person. I used to have very bad luck, I would always trip, drop the bread or do some other thing that would ruin everything, it was part of my life. But that all changed.

One day, I was walking through the woods, when suddenly I encountered a pig. He started talking to me, but he didn’t talk normally, he would talk in a poem.

Delilah, hear what I say

And keep this in mind, night, and day.

You better listen to me.

As I’m the wisest pig of all

They call me Jeremy.

And even though I’m not the most tall

You will do good in listening.

Because I do not kid about this topic

This is very interesting.

And very symbolic

Don’t ever lie.

Not ever in your life

Not to some guy

Not even to your wife

Follow this rule.

And you will have good luck.

At home in school,

Even with your duck.

He kept saying this repeatedly. At first, I didn’t understand what he was saying, until I thought about it, and I realised what the poem meant. But I didn’t believe Jeremy, because in my town, pigs are considered the dumbest of all animals. The frogs are the smart ones in DownTown.

So, I left the pig alone, and l continued with my walk along the forest. But I couldn’t stop thinking about what Jeremy the pig had said, it made a lot of sense, even if pigs were the dumb animals of DownTown. I thought and thought, and thought, until I decided that I wasn’t going to lie, just in case. I didn’t want to have bad luck. But I decided to never tell anyone about Jeremy, especially not to my friends. Or else, the king might have me banished from the town, and I don’t want that.

The next few weeks were great, I never lied, and I was having good luck. Everything was going well, and I thought to myself, Jeremy must be the wisest pig alive! I decided to go see him in the forest. After all, he had helped me have good luck, and lived alone in the woods. So, I started visiting him often. I went once or twice a week when I didn’t have to help my dad with the bakery.

One day, when I was at Jeremy’s house, he told me that now that my good luck was restored that I should help other people so that they would lie less and would have better luck. I immediately thought of Dylan, the king’s son. He had lied his whole life and was about to become our new king. We could not have a new king that lied and had bad luck! Dylan had performed the forbidden act, that might cause him to have bad luck his whole life.

We hadn’t talked in a while, and I was glad about that because I didn’t really like him. But I needed to help him, for the future of DownTown. So, I thanked Jeremy and left to go to see Dylan.

I went to the castle, and the guards let me in, because they knew I was the baker’s daughter, and my dad was very close with King Jeffrey. I found Dylan, and started telling him about Jeremy, and the poem he had told me about not lying. I told him that if he continued lying, he would have horrible consequences, and could never be able to become king. When I finished telling him the story, at first, he looked confused but then he started looking angry. And then he shouted “Delilah Bloom! You are a crazy person, a bad witch! I want you banished from my castle!” He didn’t believe me! He thought I was lying and that I was a crazy person. So, I left. If he didn’t believe me, that was his fault, and he would have bad luck. I never liked him anyways, so it wasn’t worth fighting about it.

But then things got much worse.

One day, King Jeffrey’s messenger came and told my dad that they were closing his bakery, and that he had to leave the town in three days. He asked why, and the messenger replied it was because he was the father of a crazy person who had tried to convince Dylan that a pig had told her a poem. I couldn’t believe it, I had been telling the truth this whole time and now for telling the truth, I was having bad luck!

I didn’t know what to do, until it hit me, I had to go talk to Jeremy.

I went to his house and told him about my problem and how I had to leave DownTown in three days. He told me that he had a solution, and I was glad to hear that. Jeremy said that we had to go talk to the leader of the Truth Pigs. At first, I was confused, but then he told me that it was a group of pigs that wanted to spread the word to everyone about never lying. And that if someone lied a lot, we should see the leader, Truth Toby, and he would make that person have very bad consequences. So that’s exactly what we did.

We went to Toby’s hut, and he told us what he was going to do. It was all going to take plan tomorrow morning.

The next morning, I did what I was told and gathered the whole town in the main square. Suddenly, Dylan came out, thinking that there was a princess there to see him. Instead, out of a beautiful carriage came out six pigs. And they started reciting to everyone the poem that I had told Dylan the day before. Now, everyone thought that the liar was Dylan, and they were right. And when King Jeffrey heard about all of this, he unpunished me and my dad, and we went back to being the bakery in DownTown. As for Dylan, he suffered a very unpleasant fate; Truth Toby couldn’t convince him to stop lying, so he ended up having bad luck his whole life, he never became king, and he ended up living in the streets, poor, asking people for money.

And that is why, people should never lie and always listen to any pig that comes up to you in the forest.
