The Door Not Taken

There was a boy named Ben who was a young child of 15. He did not speak a lot but he sure enjoyed playing with his friends. This story is about him entering one of the most adventurous phases of his life, the first of many. It begins at his school, Stuard Elementary. His friends were asking him to go to an abandoned house with them and he said, “Okay, yeah sure- let’s go.” He and his 4 friends went to the abandoned house. The door was unlocked already, so they entered the house before all of them split up in groups. Ben chose to go alone, he saw 2 doors and on top of them it said “After you enter one of the doors, you will never be able to go back.” Ben didn't care what it said; on one of the doors, it said “You will see the future” and on the other, it said, “You will have the power to fly and be super strong”. When he looked behind, he saw that there was a sign saying “If you leave then the doors will disappear and if you tell anyone whatever door you choose will be gone” Ben wanted to choose the door with powers so he did and he was teleported to his house. It was the next day. Ben was confused and his parents rushed fast up the stairs to where Ben's room was. They said, “Oh good, you're awake. You dozed off.” He was about to tell his decision about the doors but he remembered that he can't do that because that's what the sign had said. Instead, he said, “Oh ok can I go outside”. His mother said, “you need to rest after a few hours, then you can go outside”. So, he did what his mom said after resting. When he woke up there was a sunset and Ben said, “Mom, dad can I go outside?” They said, “For a few mins only, it's almost night time”. He said “Ok”. So he went outside trying to use his powers and there was a kid who was about to be hit by a car. Ben stopped the car with his hands, hoping to avoid the accident. He was still not sure if it would work but he thought it was something he should try or else he will not know. So he tried and the car stopped. The kid said, “Wow! How did you do that? You're strong”. He was shocked and amazed. After some time, he went home and slept soundly in bed. The next day when he went to school, he realized he could fly. When he was flying, Ben had fun on his way to his school and no one saw him. He started to land slowly. After school, he was flying and someone who was popular saw him and live-streamed it. After some time, he flew home. His parents asked him “How was school?” Ben said, “It was good and I'm going to sleep”. So off he went to bed, the new powers were pretty tiring for Ben. The next day, he woke up in a lab with a lot of scientists who had come to experiment with Ben. His parents said “Hi, do we know you?” One of the scientists replied “No, but we are here because your son stopped a car with his hands and needed to know if he was safe and what happened to him.” Ben's parents laughed at first then they showed the security camera. It showed him stopping the car and his parents were shocked. They still said, “You can't take him.” one of the scientists said “If you don’t let us, we can find other ways to take him.” His parents let them take Ben via a car to a lab. Inside, there was an x-ray machine then they scanned his full body for something unusual but they found... Nothing. That was odd because there was definitely something strange with the boy. He was too young and weak to stop a car with bare hands. They gave up and put him in a bed to rest. When Ben started to wake up, he saw everything differently- he noticed how his bedroom looked, to confirm his misbelief. He thought he was really in his dream so he thought he could play with his dream but it was real life. After he broke the door, some two scientists were experimenting and they heard a loud sound. They then looked behind and saw Ben holding the broken door. One of the scientists exclaimed, “How did you break that door?” He said, “Are you in my dream- you two mad people who look like scientists?” Puzzled, they replied, “No, this is real life.” The other scientist said, “Maybe he does not know about the real world out there. Hey kid, are you an alien or something?” Ben was shocked. He said, “WHAT!” His instincts told him that this was getting too much now. He thought it's time to go back, he was super scared. Of course, he could not let go of his powers just because he wanted to. He pondered a little and came to the conclusion that there was only one way out. When you can’t undo what you have done, you try to make up for it. But he could undo what he had done! So, he told the scientists and his parents about the flying and super strong door vs going to the future door incident. Suddenly, the world around him started shaking and everyone disappeared into thin air. At that moment, he realized he had gone back where he was. When he was about to go through the door with the two powers, he stopped and went back. His friends found nothing and they all went back home too. It was all normal again, or was it? How far away was Ben from another choice to walk through two other doors?
