The First Lost Boy Girl:
Before the Darlings and Peter Pan. Before Hook and the Indians. There was The Island. Generations before; the first being The Island ever met was a girl named Kaia, and Kaia... was a mermaid.
She was a girl with endless spools of midnight hair, silky and unwinding as she emerged from the sea. Her crystal amethyst eyes shone bright, and her glowing skin and irresistible beauty awed The Island. As she stepped out of the waves with her brand new unused legs The Island had decided to keep her. After all, The Island was lonely and it felt a kinship to this girl who mirrored its loneliness. The fear radiating off of her only enhancing her beauty. The Island, you see, pitied the girl and felt her pain and the leftover imprints of rejection she had received: brutal and horrifying. 'Obviously, if something is different and doesn't fit the mold they must automatically be shunned, rejected, and bruised' thought The Island sarcastically. The Island recalled similar feelings eons ago, its banishment. The Island shook. Kaia felt it. The Island felt the girl's fear and uncertainty. She was lost. The beautiful mermaid with her newly found legs was scarred and broken just like The Island. She was quirky and awkward but kind and good. Kaia thought of her home: so far away. Her sisters had taunted her and teased her and eventually thrown her out and her mother hadn't stopped them "you must find your own way" she had said, "if you don't have scales surrounding your heart they should not be surrounding your tale". The Island had seen into Kaia's heart and saw a good pure soul and It drew to a decision. This place, It would be a sanctuary to all those lost souls like her precious Kaia, who The Island already loved so much. It guided her as Kaia explored, and comforted her through her confusion. The Island provided shade, food, and water. Kaia soon stumbled upon a gorgeous lagoon that reminded her of home, but here she felt safe and protected knowing The Island was with her. Connecting with It Kaia felt The Island and grew to understand It and communicate. She then explored the mountain tops and found every nook and cranny there was. Kaia climbed and swam and build and created. Thinking and learning; inventing games and puzzles; songs and stories. She asked questions and The Island shared Its knowledge in return, she spoke to her kindred spirit telling The Island fables. She told The Island wonderful and fantastical stories she heard from the humans. Hearing the tales of Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, and of course The Little Mermaid. Imagining a better life but feeling like as long as they had each other everything would be alright. Kaia told them over and over and even created new ones with adventures. Finally, The Island decided to tell her dear lost girl how It had come into being. The Island had once been a goddess. Up in the clouds with her brothers and sisters, she had been the goddess of nature and her name had long been forgotten. The Island had been the most beautiful, talented, and beloved of all her siblings and they soon grew to hate her and felt jealousy, they scorned her and beat her down every chance they got. They had hurt her again and again but The Island had been strong and never gave up. That is until her siblings set up a trap and decided to get rid of their baby sister once and for all. The Island had never seen it coming and would have disappeared from existence which would have been preferable to her previously torturous lonely fate. Her eldest brother the god of transformation stepped in and decided to teach The Island a permanent lesson. He commanded she be locked away in the middle of nowhere destined to never meet a soul or ever be beloved again. Until Kaia came. The Island shuddered and Kaia felt its pain and cried with it. The Island, no longer a powerful and revered being but a clump of dirt, a shell of what it once was. Kaia slept upon the island caring and feeling all its grief and feeling a greater love than ever before. Both The Island and Kaia felt their special bond and realized they had created their own family. 'The Island, the mother she never had' cried Kaia with immense happiness. Weeks past and their connection stronger than ever The Island and Kaia realized there must be more lost souls and if Kaia was able to get there more lost girls and boys could too. Soon the lagoon was full of mermaids and the trees housed Tribes of Indians. The Island even sent out a call to the fairies who served her siblings and welcomed all who wished to join. Kaia even fell in love on one of her searches for souls. It was to a pirate, and that is how Hook would happen upon The Island. But of course, The Island had disapproved the protective mother it was, and the pirates had to stick to the sea. But even The Island could not keep the love birds apart and soon Kaia would be having twins: James and Peter. "The Hook" and "The Pan". Who would never meet their mother and sadly fight an endless battle because the siblings of The Island had planned a fail-safe 'for if their sister should ever find true happiness and family however unlikely it wouldn't last long for you see they had cursed their sister to endless suffering'. The way they saw it the gods and goddesses grew up with an insolent little brat as a sister who made their lives miserable and they couldn't take it or just didn't have the patience to let her grow up. Whatever the case here so ends the tragic story of the cursed and lonely goddess - who was witness to all of Peter Pan's adventures, and all of Hooks drunken rages, and the Indians hunts, and mermaids kills and fairies cowardice - or does it. However unlikely it is to believe in her happy ending The Island had tasted happiness and had had hope and felt love so don't underestimate the goddess of nature... also known as Neverland. The story's not over yet. Just follow the second star to the right and straight on till morning.
