Incident Summary
Jamie Carter, 16, reported strange red lights and screaming near Harrow House. She described being unable to look away, despite her fear.
Patrol Unit 14 arrived at 12:09 AM. Red lights from the woods lit the property. Officers saw no signs of forced entry or distress on arrival. The east side of the property was the origin of the screams.
Premises Inspection:
Officers swept the perimeter and entered via an unlocked door. The main rooms remained unoccupied.
Discovery:
Ethan Carter, a 17-year-old, was located in the backyard by officers; he was wearing clothes that were torn and covered in blood. He had a deer carcass, which he said Victor shot, and hired Ethan to cut it up. He confessed to recording the event to create a viral video.
The song "Angel of Death" by Slayer was playing from a music playlist on the laptop. A familiar scream starts the song. Other songs, such as "Child in Time," showcased more powerful vocals. In addition, LED floodlights have been set up close to the woods.
Suspect and Witness Statements:
Ethan Carter was working for Victor." He said he didn't mean to scare his sister or involve the police. Jamie Carter claimed ignorance of her brother's activities, believing the event was real.
Victor Harrow (resident of Harrow House):
Mr. Harrow was not on the property at the time of the incident.
Evidence Collected
1 blood-stained clothes
1 laptop
2 portable speakers
3 LED floodlights

Authorities warned him regarding the misuse of emergency resources. Issued a citation for public disturbance (loud music) after midnight.
No further criminal activity detected.

Following what police initially determined to be a prank call during the blood moon, unexplained footprints were discovered, leaving both a local family and authorities baffled.
The Carter family called 911 around midnight after Jamie Carter, 16, reported seeing "strange lights and movement" outside their home.
"The blood moon seemed like an unblinking eye watching from above," Jamie said.
Police suspected the timing of the call was suspicious. "Unusual calls increase during these events," Officer Martinez said. "Blood moons often inspire wild stories. Accidents and oddities spike during all full moons, not just blood moons."
Initially, the incident appeared to be a prank. "We thought it was kids messing around," Officer Martinez added. The Carters later admitted to playing eerie music late at night, which Ethan Carter admitted could have unnerved their neighbors.
But by dawn, the story took a mysterious turn. Footprints were discovered circling the Carter family’s property. The tracks, which appeared to belong to a two-legged creature, were spaced farther apart than the prints of any local wildlife and were unusually deep.
"I've never seen anything like it," Mrs. Carter said, visibly shaken. "They seem reptilian."
Neighbors were equally stunned. "This prank took a lot of effort," one neighbor said, still skeptical of the footprints' origin.
While most of the Carter family expressed unease, Jamie remained unusually composed. "She seemed to be searching for meaning," her mother said. "She was more curious than scared."
Police returned to the scene to document the evidence. In a statement, Officer Martinez said, "The prints resemble large bipedal lizard tracks, but no such species exists here—or anywhere—at that size."
Dr. Greene, a local wildlife expert, was called in to examine the evidence.
Meanwhile, Ethan Carter denied any involvement in creating the tracks, despite rumors that he was attempting to stage a viral video.
The discovery has sparked widespread speculation in the Milford community. Blood moons have long been linked to omens and supernatural events, from ancient legends to modern-day prophecies. Social media in Milford is abuzz with theories, ranging from pranks to aliens. One commenter joked about a "blood moon portal," while another ominously warned of the footprints' possible return.
Police are continuing to investigate and have asked residents to report any unusual activity. Wildlife experts are expected to inspect the tracks further.
For the Carter family, what began as a prank quickly transformed into a local legend.
In Milford, the blood moon blurred the lines between pranks and mysteries.

The town of Milford is abuzz with unease following the strange and unsettling events of the recent blood moon. Was it all an elaborate prank, or is something larger at play?
The mystery began with a 911 call from the Carter family, who reported strange lights, eerie screams, and massive, unexplained footprints near their property during the blood moon—a rare celestial event often tied to superstitions and folklore. What initially seemed like a harmless teenage prank has since spiraled into a puzzle that has left the town divided.
"This town is no stranger to spooky stories, but this is something else," said Ruth O’Neill, a local shop owner. "I don’t know if it’s a joke or if we actually have something out there."
O’Neill also recounted a personal tale from her late husband, who once claimed to have seen a UFO hovering over the marsh just north of Old Man Harrow's property.
As for the Carter family, they remain at the center of the mystery. Jamie Carter, 16, who made the initial call to police, has reportedly been acting "distracted" and "quiet," according to classmates. A neighbor added, "She’s been spending a lot of time in the woods lately."
Adding to the intrigue, the Milford Police Department confirmed the discovery of enormous, clawed footprints near the Carter property. Measuring over 14 inches in length and spaced in a way that suggests a bipedal creature, the tracks are unlike anything local wildlife experts have seen.
While skeptics dismiss the event as a hoax, others aren’t so sure. "The prints are too detailed, and the timing is too precise," said an anonymous source familiar with the investigation. "This isn’t your average prank."
For now, the Milford Police Department has not issued a final statement on the case. However, with each new detail that emerges, the town’s sense of normalcy feels further and further out of reach.
As more residents weigh in on the mystery, Milford finds itself at the crossroads of superstition and skepticism—a town unsure of whether to laugh, fear, or simply wait for answers.

Following strange tracks and alien rumors, Milford woke to find a cow surgically killed at the Miller farm.
Per police reports, officers found the animal's body encircled by strange footprints like those outside the Carter residence. Wounds on the cow were smooth and cauterized, like laser cuts; no blood was present.
“I’ve lived here sixty years and never seen anything like it,” said Mr. Miller, visibly shaken. “It’s not coyotes or kids. Something’s out there.”
Authorities remain perplexed. The large footprints don't match any known animal or equipment. Forensic analysis is underway, and authorities have increased patrols in the area.
Residents are on edge, theorizing hoaxes or aliens. "First the Carters' tracks, now this," said Ruth O'Neill. “It makes you wonder what’s coming next.”
As the investigation deepens with no clear answers, Milford finds itself at the center of a mystery that has left even the most skeptical townsfolk looking nervously at the night sky.
Jamie, who dialed 911 initially and also works on her school's newspaper, believed she was the only one who could crack the case.

"The Hoax That Almost Fooled Us All"

The strange events were revealed as fake. The town was gripped by rumors of odd creatures and mutilated livestock. The truth emerged from a tip. Here's the reveal.
Harrow took stilts to a bonfire Saturday, and I watched. I showed Suzy, a cop's daughter, the odd pictures on my phone. Together, we chose to investigate Victor's secrets.
Public cell data placed Victor near the scene. However, Victor had help. Cell data also put Gazette contributor Ethan Carter at the scene.
Evidence mounted: fake feet, Victor paying Ethan's fines, and two suspicious people present.
The video recorded the final blow. Victor burned the fake feet I'd seen. We assume Victor made the footprints with a device, not a cryptid.
Why would respected editor Victor Harrow deceive his town so severely? Financials of The Weybridge Gazette are key. Our investigation showed the newspaper was near bankruptcy. Sales were down, and Victor was desperate to save the publication.
Victor's motive is clear, but Ethan's role is ambiguous. Was he complicit or caught in Victor’s scheme? He is currently being investigated.
Victor stated that the device she thought was for fake prints was a game hoist.

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Milford Police Department
August 28, 2025
Milford — Police are investigating the mysterious escape of Victor Harrow and Ethan Carter, who vanished from their cells late Monday night. Both were detained for their suspected ties to recent unexplained incidents that have unsettled the community.
Jail footage confirmed Harrow and Carter were in their locked cells at 11:47 p.m. By 11:56 p.m., they had disappeared. Officers found no signs of forced entry.
A cell inspection revealed oversized footprints and a pungent, dark moisture on the floor, resembling earlier faded prints found during investigations.
In a related case, forensic analysis of the mutilated cow at Miller Farm detected unearthly proteins on the carcass, deepening the mystery.
Jamie Carter, Ethan's sister, previously claimed to witness Harrow burning fake feet. Investigators now believe her account may be credible, as footprints in Harrow’s cell suggest the involvement of an unknown entity.
Milford Police assured residents they are using all available resources to locate Harrow and Carter and to understand the circumstances of their escape.
Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activity but warn against approaching the men, as their involvement remains under investigation.

Incident Summary
On the night of the blood moon, the subject was last seen at their residence. Based on evidence and witness accounts, it is believed the subject left her home through their bedroom window at an unspecified time during the night. Fresh tracks leading away from the residence suggest the subject was carrying a heavy object, later identified as a sack of raw meat, reportedly taken from Victor Harrow’s garage freezer.
The tracks lead directly toward the swamp located on the outskirts of town, close to the forest edge next to Harrow’s home. Witnesses reported observing strange lights and hearing unusual sounds from the area around the same time.
At the edge of the swamp, investigators discovered additional evidence, including deep, clawed footprints intermixed with human tracks. These footprints were consistent with other unusual impressions found in ongoing investigations tied to recent unexplained incidents.

I wrote a story for this prompt too and never got around to submitting it before the deadline passed- and I did the media switch thing too. However, I liked that you did several police reports along with several periodical articles, as mine was a progression from police report, to journal entry, to newspaper article. But this must have been quite a bit of work, the several types of police reports, articles and periodical switches-- Really enjoyed this story and love to see a "like mind". Prompts are the most fun, IMO, when you push the limits, twist and turn them- and try to " creatively interpret" it. Thanks for the great read!

Thanks Jeneane! I told another person that I even used the AP style guide on the newspaper reports. It was a lot of work, but comments like this one make it worth it. Have a blessed Day!

I really like your use of the different medias in the story. It's a unique way to include multiple voices without a traditional P.O.V. switch. It also really amps up the suspense. I could absolutely see this writing device in a horror anthology series.

Thanks, It was a fun project.

Great story, it was chilling, and well crafted. I like how you never specifically tell us what happened, but you have us clues to figure it out ourselves.

One of my friends read it and was disappointed that I didn't wrap it up with a bow and a happily ever after. LOL, that was the point- to give the reader enough clues so they could figure it out. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Scott, you've been in "the country" way too long. Very good.

Ooo. Poor Jamie. The style shifts between police reports, newspaper reports, and school newspaper reports were so distinct and really helped the story along.

Thanks, Hilary. It was a unique challenge.

This felt chillingly real. The police reports and news clippings pulled me in like I was piecing together the mystery myself. The way the story escalated from prank to legend to something darker was fantastic. I loved the layered format!

Thanks, Amelia.
Most won't notice, but I even used the AP style manual as a guide for the articles from newspapers. It was fun...

Way to hit all the prompt marks on this one, Scott. I could see a "Blair Witch"-type of scenario here in the filming of this story.
