Once, there was a royal family who lived in the kingdom of Oholan. King Ronzion, Queen Siofra, Princess Rachel, and Princess Dianna. King Ronzion and Princess Dianna were warriors. Queen Siofra and Princess Rachel were sorceresses. Together, the royal family protected their beloved kingdom of Oholan.
Princess Rachel and Princess Dianna, although they experienced the same experience their parents had, had a hobby of their own. They loved going on adventures together, through the forbidden woods. The forest was on the edge of Oholan. And the sisters loved to explore the beings that lived there. Like bugs, little, unknown creatures, and interesting plants. But one adventure might not have ended happily ever after. It all started at the palace of Oholan…
Chapter 1
“Mother! May we go to the market?”
“Of course, but hold on!” Queen Siofra called from the balcony.
“Mother, we must go now! The tomatoes are only on sale for a few more hours!”
“Did you put sunblock on?”
“It’s not hot out!”
“It’s summer, darlings! Of course it’s hot out!”
“Siofra! Royal policies awaiting!” King Ronzion called from the main hall.
“Be there soon, dear!” Queen Siofra called to King Ronzion. She then turned to her daughters, “Rachel, remember to bring your spellbook. And Dianna, your sword.” She hands the precious items to the girls and then they run off to buy some fresh, juicy tomatoes.
***
“I’m sorry, princess! We’re sold out! But I have some fresh parsley if you’d like! Only 2 dollars.”
“That will do. Thank you, Adrien.”
Rachel was buying vegetables while Dianna sharpened her sword at the
sharpening station.
And as the older sister, Rachel paid.
“They didn’t have any tomatoes, Dianna. But I got some parsley. Shall we go?”
“Not yet. There’s a booth that has stones you can buy to sharpen your own sword!” Dianna exclaimed.
“No. Absolutely not. We do not desire it, so that means there is no need to buy it.”
“Of course there’s a need to buy it, Rachel. There’s a need to buy everything. I assure you. There is.”
“Absolutely not. I know what we need. Food, water, and shelter. That’s all. We are supposed to be learning this in school. Are you even paying attention?”
“Jeez, at LEAST I did my homework.” Replied Dianna.
“Even math and tech? Really?”
“Well… not that homework- but I did the agriculture one!” said Dianna.
“You wouldn’t stop reading about agriculture if your life depended on it. C’mon! Something difficult! Something your mind has trouble tackling! Spill it!”
“I have nothing to say. I’m just not smart. Alright? Let’s go home. I want luncheon.”
“You can’t be hungry at a time like this! Let me help you with your studies! We’ll-”
“No thanks. I’d rather do it myself.”
By the end of their conversation, they were back at the palace of Oholan. Dianna stayed up and studied (even though she didn’t want to) and Rachel went to bed, ready for school the next day, making the day end on a perfect note. Even though Dianna is annoying, I still love her, Rachel though, …most of the time.
Chapter 2
“Rachel? Hey! It’s thundering! Let’s go in the woods!” Dianna had snuck into Rachel’s bedroom. It was 3:00 AM.
“Dianna, must I remind you again? It’s not even dawn break. There is no need to wake me up at this hour.”
“Remember, Rachel. There's a need for everything.”
“No. There is not a need for diving into a garbage can. There is no need for being cruel. There is no need for waking your sister up in the middle of the night. Is there?”
Dianna rolled her eyes at that logic.
“But… we did this when we were little, remember? I just thought we could do it again. Can we?”
Rachel shook her head. “Fine. A brief adventure can’t be that bad.”
“Whoever said brief?”
Rachel motioned to get back in bed as a threat.
“Okay, okay! It’ll be quick! But in agriculture last Tuesday, I learned that there’s a plant called Rithmobiter! It can literally eat someone whole!”
“Sounds dangerous.” Rachel said as she put her boots on.
“Don't worry. I’m bringing my sword.”
“Dianna, you know what mother and dad say. No using the sword at night. It can do strange things at this hour.”
“Mother and Dad are always telling childish stories. I’m not worried. And you shouldn’t be either. We’ll be fine. Now c’mon! It’s already 3 AM!”
“I’m ready. You get your sword. I’ll get my book.” Dianna got her sword from out of the treasury while Rachel got her book from the safe hidden in the wall. She said a magic spell and it opened. Then she grabbed her book and met Dianna in the front yard.
“Let’s go. We’ll go home in an hour,” said Dianna.
“An hour?!” Rachel whined, “Let’s just call this thing off.”
“ABSOLUTELY NOT!” Yelled Dianna, and two seconds later, King Ronzion was at the door.
“Girls, it’s too early for adventures. Go back to bed.” he said. Dianna groaned.
“Ok, dearest father.” said Rachel, happily.
School was even more chaotic than that night.
“Who knows what 27/30 is simplified?,” asked Ms. Alloras, the 3rd grade teacher at The Royal School For Young Princesses. “Nobody? Come on, girls. If you become queen one day, you’ll be expected to know this.” Ms. Alloras sighed, “Pop Quiz, everybody.” Dianna cleared her desk, and groaned. Math was her worst subject. She got the quiz, and collapsed on her desk. She only felt worse when she looked at the first question…
Question 1:
What is 9/17+ 19/30?
Oh no, thought Dianna. Her mind wandered through all the possible answers, and decided that 97 sounded reasonable. On to question 2.
Question 2:
What is 2/4 simplified?
Dianna did the math and came up with 23 4/7. The rest of the class period went like this, until the bell rang. Dianna left the room feeling confident about her test.
Meanwhile, Rachel was having some struggle of her own.
“Which of you knows what onomatopoeia means?” asked Mr. Althanas, the 6th grade English teacher. Rachel knew the answer. She was very smart in English, or rather, she would have known the answer, if she had heard. She was too busy passing notes and giggling with her friend Amethyst. Amethyst had written “Did you see the post about Rebecca Jolene? She’s going on tour!!”
Rachel replied “OMG! This is huge news! We have to get tickets!” Just as Mr. Althanas turned around, Rachel tossed the note to Amethyst. “Rachel! No passing notes in my class! *sigh.* Go to Mrs. Argon’s office.” This was bad news for Rachel. She had never been sent to Mrs. Argon’s office before. Mrs. Argon was the principal. Almost everyone was sent to her office, and it was common for Mr. Althanas to get so mad over a note. Rachel had never even gotten in trouble before. She was especially frightened because it was 2:59, and the bell would ring in one minute. And so Rachel knew that she would be late coming home. She knew from other kids that Mrs. Argon’s chats were long.
As Rachel opened the door, she was very frightened. Not that frightened, though. Afterall, she was twelve.
Chapter 3
As Rachel opened the door, Ms. Argon immediately started talking. “Rachel! Hi, darling.” She had a very happy, chipper voice. Rachel guessed that based on the way she sounded, she probably was a short, plump woman wearing pink, with her short blond hair curled. But Rachel didn’t know, since she was sitting in her chair, facing the other way.
Meanwhile, Dianna was arriving home, because her Elementary school ended 30 minutes before Rachel’s Intermediate school did. Her and Rachel usually walk home together, but Rachel texted Dianna to let her know that she’d be late, so Dianna walked home without her. The first thing she wanted to do without her sister home was to read her diary. She opened Rachel’s magical purple diary, which was small and fuzzy, and very cute. It had a purple lock in the shape of a star on it. It was enchanted with magic, so nobody but Rachel could open it. Luckily, Dianna’s sword was magical, so she could open it too. She opened the diary, and flipped to a random page.
Dear Diary,
Today has been impeccable! I mastered a spell that I had been working on for many a day! All I must do is say “evanescet” and I disappear! Well, I just turn invisible, and I can walk through objects, so nobody knows I’m there! I said the word after Mrs. Allure explained it to the class (I’m ahead of the class. I’ve been studying it by myself for months), and I got it! I was invisible, and I walked right through Mrs. Allure! She’s moving me up to the advanced class! I am so excited!
Love, Rachel
Dianna turned to the last page, where purple writing was appearing. Rachel had a spell that could do that, from wearever she was, she could write in her diary with her thoughts. Dianna read on, intriguingly.
Dear Diary,
I was sent to Mrs. Argon’s office today! I had never been before! I walked in, and Mrs. Argon was VERY nice. She asked me what I was sent for, and I told her about the note, and she said “Don’t worry about it!” Then, she let me go, and it was 2:30!! I went back in and asked her, and she said time goes BACKWARDS when people are in her office!! I walked back out, and it was 2:00!!! I went back to Math class, because that’s the period before, and I already had been in this class before, so I stared at Chad Channing. He’s the Prince of Onomia. HE’S SO CUTE! I wonder if he li-
At that point, Dianna took her pen and wrote in Rachel’s diary. She hoped the magic worked two ways. She was going to have fun!
Why do u talk about such BORING STUFF?
Dianna? Why are you looking in my diary?
Why are u so boring?
Stop writing in my diary. And Chad isn't boring. He’s cool! You
wouldn’t know anything about that. You’re too imature.
Its speled imMature, not imature. 2 m’s
Ok, Miss Spelling. If your so good, how come you spelled ‘Spelled’ wrong?
Oh, shut up, dummmmy. u’r a no it all. and u’r stupid evanspit is so STUPID!!
This day has just been wonderful, diary. Especially my know-it-all sister.
Love, Rachel
P.S. It’s evanescent, not evanspit. Little Miss Know-It All.
Chapter 4
The next day, Dianna woke Rachel up at 3 am. Again. “Dianna, I do say, why on earth do you keep waking me up?” Rachel was very angry.
“Sorry, Rachel,” said Dianna, “But I am feeling like I’m being called. Called into the woods.”
“That is ridiculous!” said Rachel, “And father said no last night.”
“He didn’t say no to THIS night…”
“Oh, fine. Let me grab my spell book,” So Rachel and Dianna gathered their gear, and they went off.
“Wait” Said Dianna, “What if Daddy wakes?”
“We’d better check,” Said Rachel. So she cast a spell to see King Ronzion.
“There he is!” exclaimed Dianna, “He’s… standing outside the palace? I see… is that us?”
“Ugh.” Rachel groaned.
“Yes, it is.” Said King Ronzion, who was standing right behind them. “Now, go to bed! Enough with all these 3 AM adventures!” So they all went to sleep.
The next day, Dianna woke up with a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach. Like, on Halloween, if there’s a house that gives out full size candy bars, and you and your friend decide to save that house for last, and you're about to get the candy bars… and your parents say it’s time to go home. That’s how Dianna felt. Like there was a missed opportunity. She knew something was up, so she went to Rachel’s room.
“Rachel? There’s a weird feeling in my tummy, I mean I don’t have to upchuck, but-”
“But it feels like we should have gone into the woods last night?” Rachel asked.
“How did you know?!” Exclaimed Dianna.
“Because I have it too. This is serious. I read something about it in my magic book,” Rachel explained, “There must be some sort of magical presence. It’s calling us into the woods. There must be other information though, because it said-”
“You gonna do a dang spell or not?” Dianna demanded.
“Dianna, I do not appreciate your tone. And besides, what spell could I possibly do? The only way to solve this would be going into the woo-” Rachel stopped when she noticed the gleam in Dianna’s eyes. She knew what Dianna was thinking. “No. Father always notices when we leave at night.”
“We could go during the day! We HAVE to find out what’s in the woods!”
“We have school today!” Rachel reminded her.
“We could… skip school?” Dianna asked timidly
“THAT’S-” Rachel sighed. “I guess that’s our only option. I’ll call Amethyst and tell her I’m sick.”
“You’re not sick.”
“It’s an excuse!” Rachel cried
“Oh” said Dianna. So Rachel called Amethyst, and they went off into the woods. As soon as they entered the woods, they heard a mysterious noise in the distance. It sounded the same as when Rachel casts spells, except louder, and screecher. They could hear somebody shouting in the distance. Dianna realized it sounded like magic. “IT’S VOLDEMORT!!!” Dianna screamed!
“Voldemort isn’t real. Neither are monsters-” Rachel froze.
“Rachel? RACHEL?!!” Dianna was terrified, but Rachel was even more terrified. Shakily, she pointed at a large, big creature. It was large, and pale, and had red slits for eyes. It was very thin and it had gray, wild hair. It was wearing a long, maroon cloak. “L-l- Lord Voldemort!?” Dianna screamed, “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”
“It’s- it’s a- a Nellfid! They- they take souls and g- give them to Hades!” Rachel stuttered. She was terrified, but not as terrified as Dianna! She was shaking with fear, and was almost as pale as the Nellfid! “Run!” Rachel cried! They ran, very quickly I might add, but the Nellfid floated just as fast.
“Wait” It said in a raspy voice, “I am not evil. I am not bad. I come in peace. I am not a Nellfid, I am a forest spirit. A Sallmore.” Rachel felt embarrassed. She had no idea a Sallmore was! She’d never heard of it!
“I’m terribly sorry, Mr.… Sallmore, bu-”
“Please, call me Atticus.” He interrupted.
“Ok… Atticus. I just read about mysterious creatures in these woods, and I was just worried.” Rachel explained.
“So what have you come for, little hero?” Atticus asked.
“Me and my sister, Dianna, felt a calling to the woods, like something was wrong. ” Rachel gestured to her sister, who stood, still a little frightened, behind Rachel, “As Princesses of Oholan, it’s our duty to make sure the forest stays safe.”
“Oh, princesses, yes. Here, I can help you on your quest. The forest is a dangerous place. I’ll guide you,and keep you alive.”
“Well, thanks… Atticus. That’s very sweet, but I’m sure we can manage.”
“No, I insist. Youv’e been much too kind to me.”
“Yeah, thanks! We start right this instant!” Dianna interrupted before Rachel could reply.
“Perfect. Excellent.” Atticus said, “I guess there has been some trouble in the woods lately. I’ll show you the way.”
“Huzzah!” Dianna cried. She liked this guy. She wasn’t scared anymore! “Well? What are you waiting for? Come on!” Atticus started to lead them. He kept saying assuring things like “almost there” and “we’re closer!” Finally, they stopped at a huge willow tree. It had a huge hole in the middle. Like where a squirrel would live. “Climb on in!” He said. Dianna immediately went in. Rachel hesitated. She still didn’t trust Atticus 100%. But she went in. Atticus followed.
It was dark inside. Very dark. Rachel could barely see anything beside her own hands. And it was hard to see those. She was very frightened. She felt something rub against her skin. “EEKK!” Rachel shrieked
“Just me.” Dianna replied calmly. Although, Dianna didn’t admit that whatever bumped her leg WASN’T Rachel. It was weird, but she wanted Rachel to like Atticus for some reason. She wanted her to approve of him. She could tell that Rachel didn’t fully trust Atticus. But Dianna really liked Atticus. Maybe the way Rachel liked Chad… but she would NEVER admit it! Rachel would tease her FOREVER.
Anyway, Atticus turned on the lights. There was a huge fireplace with neon purple fire. "Woah!" Exclaimed Dianna. That must have been what rubbed against her. "That's amazin-" Dianna suddenly fell! She had no idea what pushed her, but she fell into the fireplace! "EEEK!" She sat up, and was confused. She was SITTING IN THE FIREPLACE. She felt no pain!
"Noo!" Cried Atticus.
"Whaaat... is going on...?" Asked Dianna confusedly
"I think that ATTICUS isn't what he's cracked up to be." Rachel explained. "I think he IS a Nellfid!" Dianna's stomach sank with disappointment... and then fear...
"AAAAAAH! WE'RE GONNA DIE!" She screamed!
"Chillax! He's a younud Nellfid, so he can't harm us. He was probably taking us to his father or something. And that fire is harmful to Nellfids, but not us." Rachel really WAS a know it all!
"Thank goodness." Dianna said. "Now let's go!"
"Wait! Um... Dianna. I'm sorry. My father puts so much pressure on me to be perfect, and kill people, but I was wrong, and I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?" Atticus asked.
"Of course!" Dianna exclaimed. She felt WAY better!
"And one more thing... I... have this feeling in the, um, pit of my stomach, and I.. um..." Atticus was at a loss for words.
"What?" Asked Dianna, excited. Rachel could not believe this.
"I love you, Princess Dianna of Oholan! Will you be my girlfriend?"
Dianna was shocked. "YES!" She screamed! She was crying with joy! "YOU were what was calling me! YOU are what I was looking for!" They kissed, and Dianna swelled up with pride!
10 YEARS LATER...
Dianna and Atticus were King and Queen of Oholan. Rachel was the royal sorceress, and told people's fortunes. They couldn't be happier, so of course, they lived happily ever after.
