I am Liana. I'm a whopping 930 ibs and have four legs. There is also something pointy sticking out from my head. Yes, I am a unicorn. People say I'm not, but I am. One night I wished on a fairy and I became a unicorn. I think. They destroyed all the mirrors in my house. They said it was ‘for my safety’ but I don't know what they mean by that. People often say "I'm ‘living in a fantasy world” Is that what they call earth now? I wouldn’t know. I’ve kind of been… separated from society. It started a day ago. I was a unicorn living in the prettiest meadow in all the land. But then, these people built a prison there for magical creatures! It was the Secret Company Handling Over Outdated Literary creatures. For some reason the ‘creatures’ isn’t a part of it so it spells SCHOOL. They locked all of us up and put the other fairy tale creatures under a spell that makes them believe that it’s real. Today, I am going to the prison, SCHOOL, to get them out of the spell.
I trotted up fairy lane to the prison. When I stepped inside I was greeted by smiling faces. Phonies. I can’t believe they disguised themselves as humans. The lowest form of society. I walk into a bigger area with fairy tale creatures talking to each other. Good golly! They have turned them all into humans! I have to stop this. And what saves the day better than a song? I stood up on a wobbly thing that shakes with my weight. I address the crowd “Friends!” Everyone looks up at me. I start to sing “you don’t have to give in to thissss. Just be you and you’ll make it by. We’ll get back to the land where unicorns roam! Fairies float, and ogres snoreeee. Where magic roams!!” They stared at me silently. The silence was interrupted with a snicker. Then another. One after another every fairytale creature started to laugh. Some creatures fell to the ground, others cried out of laughter! This is worse than I thought. A loud ringing sound came from above. The alarm! The creatures started running away so I followed. “Go, go!” I heard footsteps coming my way. Oh no. “Stop. All fairy tale creatures stop!” No one listened. Just kept walking. I was left alone in the hallway. The footsteps appeared in front of me and stopped. There stood a prison guard. He carried a book that said ‘Algebra’ I think it means torture in German.
He stopped me. “Where are you going?”
I became brave like a knight. “Where is your master?”
He looked very confused. “You mean the principle?”
“If that’s what his name is then yes. The principle. The head of this prison.”
He chuckled “I guess you don’t like school then?”
“Uh, yeah?”
“Well come with me.”
“No! Away beast!”
“I’m just taking you to math.”
I could use this. One ‘class’ at a time. “Fine. take me guard.”
He closed his eyes, shook head and led me down the hall. We stopped at a room that said ‘room 153’. He opened the door and stepped in. The guard in that room stopped talking and looked at us. “Hey, we have a new student.”
He and the guard continued talking as I peered inside. The poor creatures were chained to the desk. “Poor souls.” I whispered under my breath. I walked inside and sat at the open cell. It’s a silly cell, not even a bar to keep us in. Why are we in? I stood up on the desk. “Creatures. Why are we sitting here willingly? I think we should leave. Because, creatures are creatures not their prisoners, creatures are creatures not their prisoners, creatures are creatures not their prisoners!”
The rest joined in and we chanted so loud I couldn't hear the guard shouting. “Now let's free the others from their spell!” I stepped off the cell and out the door, leaving the guard behind. I went to the next door, 155. I swung open the door. The guard looked at us surprised, “What are you all doing out of class?!” I ignored her and spoke to the creatures. “Like I told my friends here, we shouldn’t sit here and take this! Because, creatures are creatures not their prisoners,” My group joined until eventually they did too. They all stood up and followed us. We kept on doing that until all the prisoners were chanting outside to school, standing up for fairy tale creature’s rights! All the guards came outside and stared at us, with a look on them that looked like they were going to barf rainbows. We kept chanting until the head of SCHOOL came out. He screamed something but we couldn’t hear him. One of the guards handed a strange device that made him speak louder.
He spoke into it, his words echoed through the air “EVERYBODY STOP!” He looked at us, with his evil eye “Who is responsible for this riot?!”
I stood up on a grey large bucket that smelled bad. “It was me, head of SCHOOL!”
“Come with me, NOW!”
Time for the final battle, “Take me!”
He led me inside to his lair. It looked nicer than I expected. The walls were green. “Ah,” I said, “Dragon repellent. Pretty smart for a VILLAIN.”
He closed his eyes and sat down. “I will call your parents. What are their numbers?”
“Parents? I don’t have parents, I was born out of magic.”
He rubbed his head and sighed. “Born out of magic huh?”
“Are you a goblin?”
“What?!”
“You seem kind of, green and old.”
He stood up and yelled “That’s it, you're expelled!”
“What's expelled?”
“It means, you're never returning here again!”
I paused, “You’re rewarding me?”
“GET OUT!”
I walked out with a hint of both happiness and sadness. I could not save the others. I walked past a single file line of creatures, going back into the prison. A single tear rolled down my white fur. A weird red carriage was parked outside. A queen emerged from it “Liana! What happened? The principal called and said, "You started a riot!” She stopped in front of me “Why are you crying?”
I looked at her “I am sorry my queen, for I could not save the creatures. Only myself. I’m a selfish unicorn.”
She sighed “No you’re not you know why?”
“Why?”
She started screaming “Because you're NOT a unicorn! Me and your father worked tirelessly to get you to a nice school and you BLOW IT one the FIRST DAY!” You need to step out of your fantasy Liana or I am going to snap more than you have!”
I felt shaky. I looked down at my hooves, they were fading away and turning into feet, my face growing shorter. Slowly I turned into a human. I stuttered “I-i’m a human.”
She sighed and looked up “Finally.”
“You did this to me.”
“What? Liana, what are you talking about?”
“You, you’re the witch. You turned me from a beautiful unicorn into a…human.”
“Liana i am NOT a witch, now let’s go home.”
She reached for me. I pulled away “No witch!” I ran away into the forest. I could hear the witch calling after me. “Liana!” I ignored her and kept running. Tears rolled down my cheeks behind me. They felt hot, like bullets. I ran under the pine, my bare feet running across the leaves. Once I was far enough I stopped and fell to the ground. I was tired, I was thirsty. As soon as i thought that i looked up and there was a lake. I walked towards it and bent down. I reached my hand out towards it. The water glowed at my touch. I put my hand in again. The sweet sound of music swirled through the air. A magic lake. I heard footsteps from behind, the witch! I took a deep breath and dived in. i could hear her faint voice from above the water's surface “Liana come back!” She disappeared back into the forest once out of sight I emerged back to the surface. I sat there, making sure she was gone when I felt something pull on my leg. It pulled a second time, harder. I pulled me under. it pulled me down and down. My eyes saw nothing but water. It pulled me farther down until I saw what it was pulling me towards. My eyes grew wide and everything went black.

Interesting story. I like how the way that she changes reality to fit into her own concept of reality. Thanks for sharing.
