Adventure Fantasy Romance

As the sun rises over the lake once more, the island I call home falls into a deep slumber-hoping to arise the next dusk. The skies above are painted with colors of coral orange and a deep crimson that marks where the sun once set. I shift my sight towards my scarlet haired friend, who is humming a familiar tune- The Phoenix Valor. She has a sense of hope in her tune-one that leads me to believe that we don't live in our own fairy tale. We live for each other, in one big story. The history of the past, present, and the future to come. I look at her and she looks at me. Her hazel eyes catch a ray of light, illuminating the sorrow in her aura. This feeling is not one I have felt- it stings, like pouring alcohol on an open wound. Then I remember that day. The day that the sun and moon overlapped. Some say it's the day of triumph. Others the day of rejoicing. But to me, it was the day I lost my beloved.

It was a strangely quiet day over the Island of Malisoar, festival lights were hung as far as the eye could see. Decorations of sky blue and midnight violet were hung on trees, huts, and the guardian statue of Valor, King of The Phoenix Country-Korana Sentalis. The Festival of the Eclipses is here, the time when we celebrate the creation of the sun and moon after Centro Exitium put the world in peril when he devoured the celestial objects. A prophecy was proclaimed by my great-grandmother- Kurenai Crystalfang- and her mother- Aurora Crescentdawn.

When the Great Malice devours Luna and Solis, a great hero will be born under the name Valor. He and he alone will punish Centro Exitium, however, his malicious reign will not end... Our hero will die and rise from the ashes once again. He will rid the world of his evil, creating an era of peace. Luna and Solis will be reborn out of the blood of the Great Malice's demise. The two will rejoice and invite The Grand Phoenix to the skies. And when that happens, not only will a festival be created in his honor, the Luna and Solis will overlap in an eclipse of both day and night.

At first, the people of this world thought they were crazy, however, when their prophecy came true a new beginning crashed into our world, and the Festival of Eclipses was born. I was weary of my grandmother's prophecy. I didn't believe it came true at all. That backfired-by a lot. I didn't believe it. I didn't want to. Until she came along.

Her hazel eyes could strike fear into our enemies. Her scarlet hair glimmered like the sunrise. And her determination was unlike anything I have ever seen. Now, the world is empty- like a hollow log asking for help. Nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing. Ever.

I look back to the sunrise and wonder. What could I have done differently? How could I have saved her? I guess I'll never know. I wasn't there. I couldn't save her.

Crash! Swoosh! Crash!

The crashing of the waves over the ocean- It's like she's calling to me somehow.

"If we fall, we will fall together. And when we rise, we will rise together. That is how I has survived all these years. This is your time to stop fighting yourself. Go to Lake Luna Borealis and find yourself. I will be waiting."

What was that? Why Lake Luna Borealis of all places? Maybe I should just go- to see what happens...

I slowly pace away from my comfortable spot on the cliff. The exquisite array of colors waver and disappear from behind me. I begin to remember the first time she and I met.

It was a rainy Spring day, and gray clouds blanketed the sky. I was walking home from the despair of my lonely home. My mother and younger sister were out shopping and I was alone. Only to be comforted by the pitter-patter of the rain. To me, this a beautiful day for a walk. That's when I was truly awakened from the slumber of eternity.

The cold splash of water sent chills down my spine. But, I ignored it. In front of me, there stood a young women. From what I could see, she was strong and tall for her age. I confidently tried to avoid her- that backfired. She turned around and saw me. Great. Just great.

She charged towards me with all of her force, knocking me to the ground. She quickly stepped back, her scarlet hair flying in the wind.

"Who are you?" She askes, distressed. I didn't know who I was or why I was here. All I knew was that I wasn't important to anyone. Not even my family- no matter how many times they accept me.

  "I'm nobody."

"Oh, really? Let's see... Aren't you the lone wolf? You know, from the Crystalfangs'?" She askes, "I'm from the Crescentdawns'. You can call me Erza Scarlet."

A Crescentdawn of all things. That explains her fighting style and agility.

Erza Scarlet... What a pretty name.

    I know right?!

What? Get out of my head!

No can do. You know perfectly well that only soulmates can telepathically speak to each other. Nice going.

    Great...

This began our journey into the unknown, un-awakened world of love. This is our fairy tale, and we will reach the end. Together.

At least that's what I thought. The crystal waters of Lake Luna Borealis reflect the Blood Moon. Suits the occasion. This is where Erza Scarlet died under the full lunar eclipse. Isn't this what is supposed to happen in fairy tales? Why can't I have a normal life. It always goes wrong. Why can't I-

   Splash!

I look towards the lake. A dark shadow is cast upon it, her shadow. She's here. This is the Gate of Love.

  "Hello old friend."
