It was just one Sunday when they met. Ace was sitting there, staring out the window as the buildings pass him by. It was so serene. It was as if he was at peace. Jade had her own smile while standing in front Ace. She couldn't hide her fondness for how Ace looked. So calm. She wished she was too. For a moment, at least, she was. Thanks to him. "Have a seat, miss." Ace’s deep and husky tone brought Jade out of her trance. She stared down at him, paling as she realized that she must've looked dumb with a smile on. "Oh! Uhm....
This isn’t the time and the place to die… She's had her head down for quite some time now. Just the cold, gray, granite floor staring back at her, meeting her blurry vision. Her back aches from the long hours of being curled in on herself - like an armadillo in defense. Her hands wrapped around her knees, holding them up and stopping them from buckling even more. Fingers gripping the tattered hem of her sleeves, hoping she could hide her vulnerable self from harm. The ticking of the clock stopped a long time ago. Or maybe just minutes ago?...

Social background was no barrier and many emperors chose concubines from the general public. The women of Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province were no exception to this rule. Even as a town disconnected from the rest of the land, the world even, it holds nothing but the best candidates for the emperors' concubine. People of the mainland may find it weird though how Shijiazhuang only homes women and no men. It was believed that previous kingdoms have fought over the said land for the luscious yet mysterious fruit tree that only grows on its soil. B...

“We’re here.” I said matter of factly. “Here? 5-star, indeed.” She laughed as I parked in front of a diner that looked like it came out of the 50s. For me, at least, it’s 5-star worth. Most of the food chains along the road are serving the usual. Greasy burger and fries. Pasta that looks like play dough. Chicken that looks like shit and the meat is like sand. I guess that’s the quality you get for dining in fast food. “We could’ve eaten at Mcdonald's.” Lizel whispered across the table after the waitress poured water in our ...

It was Jade’s first day at a new school and the jitters in her system were amplifying. She was walking slowly, stalling time, towards her classroom for she didn’t know how to enter. Would she knock? Would she have to wait outside for the teacher to assist her in? Or would she simply sit somewhere at the back and wait for someone to approach her? Her mom told her that she could always go ask for assistance at the dean’s office. But time was not in her favor any longer. She’s been stalling too much and a trip to the dean’s offi...

Sitting by the corner of a cell, she re-counts the many tally marks on the wall across from her. “1,2,3,,..” Her dull eyes roam the whole wall once again as a stray tear escapes down her cheeks. With her eyes staying on a mark, her hands grope blindly on the floor. She feels a sharp edge and grabs it enclosing her fist around it. She stood up and winced as the edges wound her palm but she didn't let go. Now facing the wall with marks, she stood. Bringing her bloodied fist up, she started drawing a new tally mark. Blood streams...

"It doesn't count if you're already planning your defeat." The girl in front of me says, her silhouette becoming blurier as the sun sets through the blinds behind her. Or is it really the darkness that makes her blurry? "But what if I lose? Then nothing is left of me." I look down at my lap as my fingers catch the tears cascading from my eyes. So it was not the darkness then. It was my tears starting to blur my vision. I wonder if my future is as blurred as the girl in front of me right now. "You will keep losing if you keep ...
