There weren’t but 3 days left until I was to go off to college. I had worked the entire summer being paid to watch TV all day! Netflix had hired me as a part time employee to watch all of their movies and specials and TV series content before it was available to the public and my role was to review and assign each program its correct tag, which helps the viewers to find exactly what their after, whether it’s a romantic crime movie based on classic literature or witty talking-animal TV shows. Netflix's content reflects global perspectives and global stories. Part of the reason that the company hired me because it has been focusing on diversifying its workforce and to recognize that its audience is also increasingly diverse. After all, why would a viewer want to watch programs that consistently fail to resonate with any of their personal experiences? As such Netflix has broadened its horizons to highlight characters who are more like their viewers featuring a larger range of races, ages and sexual orientations. Netflix has been particularly adept at featuring female leads across a wide variety of genres.

Enough about Netflix shop talk. I have only 3 days left to truly prepare before I hit the books for 4 years.

Moving from high school to college is a really big transition for me and a lot of students and this year's incoming freshmen we are facing new challenges while the coronavirus pandemic is  pushing many colleges who are now offering fully online or hybrid classes. College coursework consists of substantially more reading than is required in high school. I should have started getting used to the increased workload by reading books during the summer before college. Instead I was handsomely paid to watch 6 seasons of Never Have I Ever, a coming-of-age drama about a young woman who, after the death of her father, decides she wants to change her life and elevate her social status on Netflix.

I was informed by my high school counselor is what I chose to read was not as important as how much, but it helps to select recommendations for my intended college major or areas of academic and personal interest. Balancing the academic and social demands of college can be a challenge for even the most diligent student who already majored in watching film. But there are plenty of digital tools designed for students and a little organization can go a long way in making sure time is used wisely.

Would watching 5 seasons of Breaking Bad  when a high-school chemistry teacher diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer. To secure his family’s finances before he dies, White uses his chemistry background to cook and deal premium blue meth count for how organize I could be? College is expensive and costs go beyond tutition and fees. Day-to-day expenses make up a significant chunk of a student's college budget. I made enough money from watching Queer Eye or Mind Hunter never having to worry about my finances or taking a part time job.

My cell phone suddenly rang and there were no more thoughts of college or 3 seasons of watching Avatar: The Last Airbender for Netflix’s

It was my friend Jeff who called to invite me to his home. He was having a going away to college party. Laughingly ending the call by saying only if I could get away from watching The Haunting of Hill House a character-driven story, delving into the psychological problems of its many protagonists. It’s no mere family drama, though. In addition to their personal demons, there are some very real ghosts haunting the Crains and Flanagan orchestrates some intense scares in the first episode alone, building tension but also knowing when to bust out a jump scare.

I abruptly hung up and would decide later if I would attend. By watching the 1st season of Alias Grace and 7 seasons of Peaky Blinders a crime drama about a British crime family.

A whole lot of personal matters were neglected such as cleaning my room and washing clothes. I would at least take care of those two things before I reluctantly attend Jeff’s going away to college party.

Yes it was kind of difficult to stop watching the 5th season of Better Call Saul. With my room all tidied up and a pair of clean underwear I was ready for the party.

When I got to my car it was as filthy as my room. I drove to the car wash and you wouldn’t believe what they had on in the waiting room while my car was being hand washed. It was the 2nd season of Rectify on Netflix.

Once I got about a block towards Jeff’s home I could have sworn I heard the soundtrack of the beginning of Penny Dreadful from Netflix.

When I finally found a parking space to park my clean car. Everyone was sitting in the huge living room in a trance watching The Fall on Netflix.

On my way out of the front door Nancy Burger stopped me. She was a former elementary girlfriend who had turn from a semi ugly duckling into a beautiful 18 year old Swan with a body that even older men would break their necks to look at. She asked me if I’d like to come to her home for dinner and a movie. Her parents would be away until Sunday so that they could drive her off to college on the following Monday. Nancy wasn’t the kind of young woman you said no to even if I couldn’t really figure out her ulterior motives. In truth I liked the semi ugly duckling a lot better.

After I got home the first thing my mother asked was what happened at the end of The Crown on Netflix?  I silently asked myself is whatever happened to why are you home so soon son or are you on drugs honey or have you gotten some poor girl in trouble.

It was good to return to my clean room.

With nothing better to do I started watching Sex Education a bawdy comedy about teens grappling with sexuality. It just didn’t feel the same watching knowing I wouldn’t get paid, so I shut off the TV and went to sleep.

The first dream that came to mind that Saturday morning came from American Vandal.

I had a lot of packing to do so I didn’t have time to analyze why I keep dreaming about Netflix stuff all the time.

I was truly looking forward to spending some quality time with Nancy. Time flew by just like it did when I watched the hour long show The Good Place on Netflix.

The minute I arrived at Nancy’s home I quickly realized that I was not the only one invited to eat dinner and a movie, but 4 of her closes girlfriends for a sleep over before they all left for college. She only invited me so that I could make highly recommended movies and shows to watch on Netflix. I left completely disappointed.

After a night filled with Netflix dreams I awoke to discover that I slept until 8 pm the last day before I’d leave for college. I couldn’t quite explained after I resigned from watching Netflix for the entire summer why I found myself so tired.

This was very creative Blane! I want that job. It's really interesting how you weaved different shows and movies throughout the story. It was great. If you get the chance, I would be grateful if you could provide feedback on one of my stories. Thanks and keep writing!

A fun read! I think perhaps you could have spent less time summarising then shows but it’s obvious that a summer spent immersed in Netflix has left him very Netflix-orientated. What a great job to have though!

Wow, such an interesting read! That job is so unique (and that bloke is the luckiest man on earth!). I loved that the humorous encounters and his own thoughts were all pertaining to Netflix. This man lives and breathes those shows! Great read. Would love to get your thoughts on my latest :)

"I couldn’t quite explained after I resigned from watching Netflix for the entire summer why I found myself so tired." In this line I think you meant 'explain' instead of 'explained'
