People ran in fear trying to escape the ever burning flames that covered their homes, their crops, and even their families. But they did not fear the flame, they feared the one whose eyes are enough to make someone's heart come to a halt.
Despite that not everyone ran, some were brave enough to face the demon in battle warriors who used enchanted weapons and special talismans all made to kill the demon fox who hunts when the sun no longer shines.
The demon fox with 6 large tails of all different colors stared up at a full moon with not a cloud in sight to block his vision. All that's left is to cure his boredom to make this a perfect day. The shouts of priest and warriors were music to his ears, he blew the flames around him making a burnt battle field, he could see in many of their eyes was regret, he could see how scared they were. Not all of them shared that same look, some had rage in their eyes, but the most interesting was one whose eyes were sad, they were hopeless yet he didn't act like that.
He looked up at the full moon from the top of the clock tower, remembering the good old days only reminds him how boring times are, he's left fighting behind them cause they either were too troublesome or way too boring for him. No more were their warriors like him who would fight over and over stubbornly to die but with no reason to live.
He leapt to his feet tired of doing nothing on this roof, it would be a waste to do nothing on such a gorgeous full moon, even with the clouds covering it he could still dance in the rays that shined through. Staying in his fox form he could easily leap from roof to roof while looking for anything interesting to cure the boredom killing him.
In this town very little people walk the streets at night thanks to him going around scaring people and taking the lives of a few problematic folks who think the night is territory, but now the demon fox is a ghost story in this town, tired of jumping around he decided to stop of a particularly large and old roof of a bakery he visits from time to time. He likes to make sure no one tries to do anything nasty to it at night.
While sitting up there his nose picks up an unusual scent, there on the sidewalk not too far from him he notices a girl wearing clothes he hasn't seen in decades before he came to this town. Hiding between the rays of light was a short woman in a Victorian gothic black dress that had red frills that matched with black and red umbrella she held covering her face from him.
He was always a curious fox and leapt in her path making her stopping just before the light he stood under he made his fur white before hand a neat trick he learned for approaching people, the umbrella casted a darkness over her face that even his eyes couldn't see but her red eyes told him all he needed to know she not human.
He transformed into a man in a white and silver robe that allowed the moonlight to shine on it as if he was a divine fox, but she looked at him unfazed. He could tell his lie was not enough to trick her eyes but he decided to keep the look plus he was too curious to leave,” what's a girl like you doing out at night especially with a demon lurking in these streets”. She said nothing for a while then began to walk by him whispering,”for your sake it's best you leave and never meet eyes again”. He stood there stunned. not because he got pushed to the side, he smelled a familiar but rare scent that made him even more curious. Looking up at the moon he laughed to himself, "it seems the gods have blessed me with yet another entertaining night.
In that moment of joy he felt another presence pass him silently like the wind. If it wasn't for the murderous aura he wouldn't even have noticed the cloak man pass by him as if the fox wasn't even there. Now that makes two people whose fates seem to be entwined. Returning to a fox he leapt to the roof to follow the girl curious of her destination and the intentions of the man who followed behind her.
The faint sound of humming drifted through the night from the lips of the maiden in black as she entered a strange garden, one the fox had sworn he'd never seen. But how can that be? He's lived in this town longer than even the oldest residents and yet never once has he seen a garden like this filled with flowers in such strange colors. The garden surrounds a statue of a headless horseman with purple, black, and white flowers in different shades surrounding the waterless fountain.
She stopped her humming once the red roses surrounding the statue got in her path. The man who had already caught up stopped behind her and pointed a gun at her head. It was a revolver, one too old for the fox to remember what type but it had a gold lining in the shape of a blade. One he swore he saw on one of his trips but he couldn't remember what or who it was for.
A sudden gust of wind passed him into the garden sweeping away the man's hood showing an older man with a shaved face who looked to be in his 40’s, but he had large scars on his face from the look of them the fox was certain not a single one was from an animal, all were from different demons and monsters. Which explains the aura and the gun, he was a hunter. "quite a place to choose to die and on such a peaceful night”
She said nothing back but now that her umbrella was taken by the wind he could finally see her face under the moon. His eyes were locked to her, by far the most gorgeous creature he's ever seen. Her smell was sweet like flowers. Maybe it was due to the garden but her aura was calm. Most of all was her eyes, they were just like his, empty, hopeless, sad, but yet they were still determined to live. Such a girl was too pretty and marvelous to him to just die in front of him and his whole body was telling him to get a closer look. Taking a human form once more this time in black he leapt quietly into the air.
she turned to her attacker whose gun was ready to fire, she closed her eyes and waited for her lonely life to end. She thought back to what the women said before she left for this town hoping the old fortune teller still spoke true. The man had no more words to her and pulled the trigger, but instead of her body laying dead on the roses he was surprised by another gust of wind blocking his sight due to the petals that came at him.
He looked back up to see her umbrella in the hands of a man with 6 tails using it to block any vision of the two but he let go, letting the umbrella tumble head first onto the ground letting the night sky see these two in locked lips under the sky, her eyes not opening until his hand left her chin with his mouth. He smiled at her "you taste as good as you look, vampire”. Her eyes locked onto his, despite her warning their eyes crossed again and now she can't look away.
The fox turned to the man his words echoing through the air as the clouds began to cover up the moon,” take heed this land is not your hunting ground hunter, this I shall let you live but if we are to cross again i won't be so kind” he gave the man with a devilish smile before picking up the umbrella and summoning another gust of wind that began to pick up and swirl flowers and petals around them.
The hunter quickly fired two shots at the flower veil with little hope to easily finish his mission but unfortunately for him he couldn't confirm if any of his shots hit either of the two for the wind died letting the flowers and petals float to the ground softly with his target nowhere to be seen. He took out his phone to call the man he worked for who picked up before it even rang once but didn't say anything, only waited on the other end to hear his results of the mission, the hunter paused only for a moment putting away his gun then spoke” I have found the black rose vampire and another target known as the six tailed trickster fox”
Her eyes still had that look of helplessness as she turned to her savior, touching her lips upon seeing her black lip stick on his, she felt a twisted joy in her soul. He held the umbrella to her waiting for her to take it from him. She grabbed the umbrella while slowly moving closer until her heart was one with his.
Her eyes looked nowhere but his, she once again spoke to him just as softly as before,” I warned you and now our eyes have crossed, Now I don't think I could live away from your side, you must take responsibility for not heading my warning and for twisting my heart with your kiss.
She shifted her eyes to the town they overlooked from the top of the hill, "I came to end my life, I didn't want to live alone anymore, I don't want to wake up by myself again so I decided to never wake again” her eyes glowed bright red but her face didn't change he couldn't tell what was going through her mind but her smell shifted again to one he never smelled before
She put her hands towards the moon "but it seems life has other plans for me, for it has blessed me with the one thing I was missing”. She quickly turned her frills twirling with her dress as she spined and grabbed his hands, "Your lips are proof that you and I seek the same thing in this cruel world.
He realized the trouble he just brought into his life, the smell he could recognize was cause but there were so many emotions mixed together but one he could tell that stood out was that of a starving animal. If he accepts this girl into his life it will change everything, part of him wanted to avoid that but looking at the town he remembered what she said. He turned back into a fox,” what an interesting situation I found myself, I would be a fool to let such a chance slip through my fingers.”
He began walking down the hill,” the night is reaching its end we should return to my home”, she waited there for a second before quickly grabbing him like a cat holding him close to her chest for him to feel how fast her heart was beating, to feel how overjoyed she was, even if her face didn't show it, "I go by the name Lilith”, she said out of the blue as they reached the bottom of the hill, but she didn't dare ask for his name.
Even so, he could tell she wanted to know her smell changed to that of curiosity, "I've gone by many names so many I've long forgotten my true name, but one I particularly liked was Lucian", she thought of his name saying it over and over in her head. She smiled just a little while he wasn't paying attention, thinking to herself a vampire of the night and the fox of the moon, what a wonderful combination, it seems my fortune came true. Losing herself in her thoughts she said her last thought out loud though he paid no attention to it for it meant nothing to him, ”embrace death and you shall find new life”.
