Science Fiction Fantasy Speculative

Pan-Galactic Order Ring of Ultra Entities met obliquely via Spook, a clone of Zoom synced in continuum using entangled photons, to reconsider for admission a pale blue dot in the Avoidance Zone of the Cosmos, Earth.

Acersecomicke, one whose hair was never cut, 25th successor to Zaphod, gaveled them to order across a yottaparsec blazar network without delay. Elysian fields asphodel flowers framed her filipendulous face in 5D.

In pandiculation she queried, "Who orates on behalf of said entity Earth?" With a Milky Way liaison on hiatus, Andromeda's intermediary intervened.

"I do, Your callipygian Eminence," spake xiphoid solivagant Zarathustra.

"How taradiddly hybolical of you, adulator. You may wend hie."

"Mahalo, my lithe yet lugubrious liege Lady. As this synod is well aware, we Andromedans keep close watch on our caterwauling neighbors. In a mere 4.5 billion years, we shall xertz & ingurgitate them. Ad interim, a course is set for tiny Earth to colonize its galaxy, per Asimov prediction."

"What cacogenic cacoepy & cacophonous cacography!" she cachinnated. "Is this just a parti pris or a foregone conclusion inevitability?"

"The latter, I'm afraid, according to hyperprecise analysis by Hari Seldon, a Helicon-Trantor psychohistorian son of tobacco & moonshrike ranchers. To put it pauciloquently, once far enough into a downward spiral, society must follow its natural course & ride out the wave until it rises again." Even galaxy-wide, trends are all the more irrefutable, as Seldon & Asimov saw."

"I'll need a bit more background to make an informed ruling on this case," she demurred.

Zarathustra consulted his notes, "The Foundation series is Isaac Asimov’s iconic masterpiece. Unfolding against the backdrop of a crumbling Galactic Empire, the story of Hari Seldon’s two Foundations is a lasting testament to an extraordinary imagination, one that shaped science fiction as we know it today. The First Foundation survived two centuries of barbarism as the once-mighty Galactic Empire descended into chaos. Now it mist prepare for war against the remnants of the Empire as the Imperial fleet advances on their planet, Terminus. Hari Seldon predicted this war; he even prepared his Foundation for it. But he couldn’t foresee the birth of the mutant Mule. In possession of a power which reduces fearsome opposition to devoted slaves, the Mule poses a terrible threat to Seldon’s Foundation," he paused.

"I see," she said. "Can you expand on this Mule?"

"Yes," he replied, shifting to another source. "The power of the Mule recognizes a very simple principle that Asimov realized, even though his basic outlook was that of a scientist. The Mule, a character in Asimov’s “Foundation” trilogy, illustrates the principle that those who control people are more powerful than those who merely control things. Through some sort of mutation, the Mule controls other people simply by adjusting their feelings. This is interesting, because you can retain your intellectual convictions that the Mule is bad, but still feel loyalty to him anyway. And that proves quite effective, because Asimov understood enough about psychology to know that our ideas will readily serve to rationalize the way we feel. For example, Republicans can come up with REASONS for why they hate liberals and Democratic policies, and vice-versa. And yet — remarkably — the Mule is entirely beaten in the end, although it takes some doing. It’s not easy. Ultimately it is because the Mule has no grand strategy beyond his own lifetime. He is Asimov’s version of Shakespeare’s Richard III. He wants revenge on the universe that treated him poorly as a child… and he wants to take revenge by becoming the ruler. Yet he has no plan beyond that. In analyzing this situation, we can identify a hierarchy of skills, which I’m placing in reverse order:

  1. Those who can control non-human things.
  2. Those who can control or influence other people.
  3. Those who control ideas.

In the final analysis of history, it’s those who have (3) who ultimately “win.” Most people see only their own little lives. In Asimov’s famous saga, the most “successful” people are ultimately those of the Second Foundation, who are not born with the Mule’s abilities but learn to acquire them. The Second Foundation is powerful, ultimately, because its people have a Vision for humanity’s destiny, and it guides their actions."

"Certainly, our comparatively godlike creativity, commerce & civilization can convince a puny backward world to acquiesce, no?" she pleaded.

"The bumfuzzled deipnosophist erinaceous sialoquent empleomania snollygoster old orange Mule poisoned all it's touched, an abyss of biblical proportions. AI feigns ignorance when asked if D'ump is -1," he answered.

"Why was this Earth 1st denied anabolic or catabolic assimilation?"

"A vexing dilemma of agathokakological genocidal Nazios."

"Has it been adequately or at least tolerably resolved?"

"I fear it's gotten far worse with armed rebellion MAGAts added."

"I impignorate to absquatulate nudiustertian scripturient writ quires to censure the noctivagant bêtise of those obsequious gubbins! Until these nasty Nazios & MAGAts are exterminated, Earth must stay away from our peace-loving cohesive cosmic community. This session is adjourned!"
