Drama Sad Fiction

Title: Bye bye Sweet 'n' Treats!

Author: Haripriya

Author's note: Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a happy Tuesday! This story is a bit more sad and depressing. Though I still enjoyed writing such a dramatic story about a family who won't be continuing their business. I hope you have a lot of fun reading it as much as I enjoyed writing this story!

Darkness, everywhere I turn. It used to be such a lively place. Filled with people, lights, and smiling faces. That is what I loved about our bakery. Until my mother and father told me the news. Everything used to be better before, but now? Now this place is getting locked up, for someone else to use. Not for anythingΒ funΒ but for a laundry business. Really? I mean, is it even necessary. I mean, who needs these laundry businesses when most people have washing machines inside their houses? Besides, it's not like they're even doing the work. They're putting it in the washing machine too. So basically, if you think about it, you're paying someone to do something you could have done by yourself all along. Seriously, I mean that is not even called working!Β

But imagine this. A family has just come in to visit. They have never been here before, but are starving. The children need to eat something, or to be more specific, a sweet treat, so they start crying. Sighing, the parents try to find the closest bakery. Soon, they find it.Β Sweet 'n' Treats!Β Yup, they decide to drive there and order something for their children. When they come inside, they find many customers all looking happy and excited, fulfilled, and satisfied with their orders. They also find a lot of lit up words, and shades of pink, blue, and purple all over the place. They can spot some nicely adjusted couches and tables and chairs for them to sit while we are making their order. They can look at social media from any of their devices since we offer free wi-fi.Β

Now imagine the parents feeling overwhelmed by all the choices, but lastly, they buy some coconut macaroons and some croissants for themselves. They don't hesitate to buy some cupcakes too. Imagine the children biting into the most delicious frosting they have ever tasted in their lives. The chocolate fudge of the cupcake. Each bite tastes so moist, and yet so tasty. Imagine the other child biting into the macaroons, the coconut flavor suddenly hitting in their taste buds, along with some vanilla extract. Imagine how the parents will enjoy their freshly baked croissants. So buttery, and inside is filled with homemade strawberry jelly! Why the bread taste as if they've come from Paris, France! The entire family feels so full and yet happy as they pay the bill and walk towards their car. Now they can continue with their vacation.Β

Don't you see? Doesn't this sound much,Β much,Β better than the washing machine scenario? If only mother and father could ever recognize this. How much our bakery had been actually valued. If only they could have lovedΒ Sweet 'n' TreatsΒ as much as I do, then they would understand what I am going through right now. The kind of heartache I have when they said that they were going to sell our business. Honestly, our business had been doing so good that we even madeΒ Β Sweet 'n' TreatsΒ a franchise! I loved this shop, and treated it like my own child, like my own home.Β

It's kind of like your best friend. Say that you've known this friend of yours since the day you were born, and you've spent so many years together, and then suddenly your friend has to move. Won't you also be upset? Won't you also feel disappointed? Won't you also feel really mad, yet frustrated at the same time? Won't you be raging at the fact that you won't see your best friend that often, or worse, maybeΒ never.Β Well, that's exactly how I felt.Β

This bakery goes back to generations when my great great grandma and grandpa decided to build a bakery to sell their freshly baked goodies. They came up with the idea and the entire layout ofΒ Sweet 'n' Treats. Since they really liked baking, they tried to make it a business, and fortunately, it worked. Customers lined up to get, even a little taste of their goods. Since then, my grandma and grandpa, then my uncles and aunts, and my mom and dad have all been working in that bakery ever since. Well, until now.Β

I hope anyone in this world can experience what I am feeling right now. The grief, desperation, and sorry I am going through. Frankly, it's terrible to feel this way. Like you have no aim in your life anymore. I was just getting used to baking cakes and cookies, I even learned how to make a good gingerbread house, and other treats for Christmas, but that all now feels like dream. A dream which is never going to come true again. I wanted to follow in my family's footsteps and become a baker. I wanted to learn our family's old secrets and recipes, but now everything is gone.

On the day when my mother and father broke the news, I spent the entire day crying and sobbing. We weren't going to continue our long-standing family business. I know mother and father also aren't feeling too good about anything that has been happening to us lately, but they continuously try to cover their feelings up. I know that their hearts and souls are crying, but their faces look cheerful and... happy. They keep telling me to move on from the events. They tell me to look in the present and forget the past, but it's not that easy when you're trying to forget about your attachment to something.Β

Well, you may be asking why we are not continuing this business anymore. That's because my mother and father have no time to look after the shop. They are tired of baking all their lives. They want to do something else, something they've always wanted to do their whole lives, and that is to become teachers. Before, when they told me the reason, I was stunned. I didn't know they wanted to teach children. I didn't even know they liked working with them.Β

That was why they sold it to someone who wanted to make a laundry business there. Though I won't feel too happy about the present, I'll try to move on, I'll try really hard.Β

Bye, byeΒ Sweet 'n' Treats! It was nice knowing you.Β

Wow! This story was super emotional and kinda dramatic. The first few lines, "Darkness, everywhere I turn. It used to be such a lively place." really drew me in and your well-written story kept me intrigued for the rest of it. Great job!

Of course! That is super sweet and kind of you to say, I will literally do it any day. (Oops, didn't mean to rhyme there, haha) I don't think you understand how truly good your stories are (and what a gift you have) as well as how much I love them! I always can't wait for the next one because I know it will be amazing!

Well done! I definitely felt the emotions of someone losing something they had known their entire life. There were a few spots where commas may have been misplaced, but it didn’t change the overall story. Good job!

Reply

Thank you so much Marissa! Also about the comma thing, yes, I need to work on that...so please excuse me if you see any unnecessary commas. XD

Gosh, I have lots...I guess one of them would be Big Hero 6, Moana, Frozen, and the classics like Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. (I know that was a lot of movies, but I just can't help myself!!! I have watched so much Disney movies, that I honestly love them all!!)What about you?

I really like all of the movies aswell, along with some of the songs in the movies, like Frollo's song from the hunchback of notre dame. I think that's one of the best villain songs and stuff, though whenever I'm watching a Disney movie, I always just wait for the Disney parent death, that always happens :/

Reply

Yeah, but I do agree, that song was amazing! Did you like the live action Aladdin or the animated version? If I got to be honest with you, I loved both...=)

Reply
