Fantasy Inspirational Teens & Young Adult

Feel free to call me traditional...or a 'mamma's boy', I've been called considerably worse by people of a much higher status. I am proud to be apart of the Nagerrotay lineage, my ancestors for generations had been famous for our particular ability to tune into the universal energy and obtain the information we needed. For thousands of years the Nagerrotay had been advising the Fae's royal council and those who requested our assistance.

When the Fae and the human world had made their initial contact over half a century ago, it had triggered a rapid morphing of both societies. The humans, fascinated with our 'magical abilities' and ' perfectly symmetrical beauty' started to hold the Fae as almost celestial beings in their eyes. The Fae, being the biologically superior species instead found the way the humans had coped without the Fae's particular ' supernatural' traits bewitching and as a society we had quickly uptaken their outstanding technological creations.

It was a sad vision to behold, two sociteies...both with their own merits yet they each longed to be like the other. I had magic running through my veins, the supernatural ability to tap into universal energy to obtate any information or data required...yet my own race would rather use the ' internet' the humans had invented, a sort of slower...digital version of the gift that ran through my bloodline. Why? I could not begin to fathom.

The Nagerrotay's gift was always current thanks to the way universal energy was constantly updating. My gift could run without electricty or a digital device...all you needed was one of my family members and we were almost always happy to help those who seeked us.

It was the same with the humans, they found our perfectly symmetrical looks as something to aim for yet I knew that the Fae found their looks interesting...I found their appearence interesting...I found their personalities interesting. Our 'perfect' and 'blemish free' features reflected that of our personalities...we were so utterly boring in my eyes.

The humans were vibrant, full of life with their volatile emotions and genetic lottery...they were interesting, every aspect of their natures was born through a fragile balance. I think we envied them...actually, I know the Fae desired to be like the humans. We wanted their free will...their spontaniety. Compared with one another, the humans were like a brilliant rainbow against the monochromatic shade that was the Fae.

I had tried this 'internet' and the ' digital computers'...but I did not see what the hype was about. My gift was so much more interesting...so much more reliable then these human inventions. I mean...I could admit that they were very impressive, especially considering humankinds current evolutionary level. Yet...this 'internet' system was simply a slower, error riddled and harder to access version of the Nagerrotay's specialised ability.

My families gift was passed down to the eldest child of each generation, which was an incredible compliment yet also created an invisible yet potent rift between my siblings and I. They like the rest of Fae, had embraced the humans technological inventions and often dismissed the gift that I, our mother, our grandmother, our great grandfather had...and so forth had been born with and could be traced back right to the origins of Fae.

Every morning and evening, my extended family and I would gather around our dining room table and share the news of the day and the night before. We created an odd scene with me, my mother and my grandmother sitting the midst of my uncles, aunties, cousins and siblings who were all looking at their various digital devices for the latest headlines of the day whilst those with my families supernatural gift simply had to think of a topic and we instantly knew the latest updates.

These times also acted as excellent practice to strengthen and continue to develop my ability...even though no one outside of the family had any use for it anymore. Occassionally, the Fae royal court would call upon us but they often wanted just to know about personal private things of their various family members and one of the strictest universal laws was only giving those information who were entitled to receive it.

It was a lonely existance at the best of times...yet a meaningful one. I found myself spending most of my life hanging out at my family home using my abilities to create cheap souveniers for the family shop. My gifts meant that I knew about things before the internet, which meant that I could utilise this in an economical way. That was another thing that the Fae had taken from humanity...the concept of a economy rather than a more ' you take what you need and help others to live equally and peacefully' approach.

Even though I was barely 200 years of age and should be at university with my peers, partying and getting an education...I was not allowed to attend any secondary schooling thanks to the 'unfair' advantage my gift had bestowed upon me. Instead, I learnt everything from my family and was probably going to take over the family business. Which was why on a early Tuesday morning at barely past 6am, I was busily making the tiny flowery cupcakes in honour of the new member of the Fae royal family that had been born scarcely 20 minutes ago.

In a few hours time, my family's shop would be flooded with customers wanting to be apart of the celebrations...these traditional flowery cupcakes would be a best seller...I know it sounded sad, lame even.

I had this incredible skill yet all I was using it for was to keep ahead of the trends...perhaps one day I would be able to use it meaningfully once again, like my ancestors had and I would advice councils on peace treaties or be able to assist the healers professions with my specific insights.

Yet for now, I'd continue to make these symbolic cupcakes and keep one ear on the world around me... for you never know what will overhear, the universe is a busy place afterall.
