Fantasy Adventure Friendship

Author’s Note: Hi guys, I know it’s been a while, but now I’m back so, hello again! Now, about the story. This is a mixture of the current and previous prompts: Write a story where something magical happens when it starts to rain and write a story about a character who believes their dreams predict the future. I had a good idea for the previous prompt, but somehow I forgot to finish it. So please enjoy this combination of prompts. Oh and also, there are multiple references to the greek goddess, but I gave her powers that she didn't have in the stories so please keep that in mind when reading my story. Ok last thing, you may recognize a character from one of my previous stories (I really hope you do, I mean, I made it pretty obvious). And if you don’t, I highly recommend that you read my first story: “A Lillie for a Life”. Enjoy, guys!

It was a dark and stormy night- Hold up. No. I told you before and I'm gonna tell you again, we are not starting with ‘A dArK aNd StOrMy NiGhT’ But I thought I got to pick this time! Nope. You have told this story wrong for the past century; it's my turn. ...Very well my lady.

It was a dark and stormy night NOW HANG ON SHUT UP I'M TRYING TO TELL THE STORY. Sorry about that; ugh, narrators. Anyway, where was I… ah yes. It was a dark and stormy night. The kind where the wind blew across the moors, cold enough to make your bones ache and shiver from the inside out. There was a sort of dry, humid sense about the air, almost as if it was about to rain. The further you walked into the moor, the more you would start to see the thin white wisps of mist; like hair, or tiny arms reaching towards you, almost as if they were searching for something. Or someone. I was about to...ugh never mind. Anyways- the wisps of smoke yes, thank you for finally doing something helpful for once. The wisps of smoke go to search you, and you, like many others before, run screaming back to wherever you came from. The mist-hands seem to sag in disappointment for a moment, before they knit together in some sort of a protective wall around… something- or someone again, not helpful.

Cassandra gazed out the dusty window, cracked and weathered with age. She seems to be waiting for someone. Wait, there was someone coming. A shadow at the edge of her mist. She reaches out with her long spindly fingers to search the person; and just as she expected, the small figure starts to sprint back across the moors. She sighs with longing, and realizes that It is time to accept her fate: whoever she is waiting for, isn't coming. Tears start to drip down her face, and water the moors, a different kind of water cycle. And with the gentle plop, plop, plop of her tears on the roof, Cassandra could finally sleep.

10 years later and were apparently doing titles now, thanks for that. No problem. Wait… were you being sarcastic uhh… ON WITH THE STORY hold on you weren’t y-

The mist had parted, and the rain had stopped. Or rather paused, since there always seemed to be a silent promise of rain over the town. Town? Yes town, don’t act so surprised. But when I tell it there’s never a- town, yes I know, because you always tell it wrong. Aaaaand back to the town. While Cassandra had been sleeping, her fingers had unfurled from a fist at her side, like the flowers she loved so much, that was in fact, wilting from her sadness. Cassandra’s moods affected everything near her; because she was the moors, and they were her. Unclenching her fist and letting in that little bit of hope and peacefulness allowed the protective barrier mist around the manor to part. It was the most peaceful she had felt since… Well, let's just say in a long time. The people who lived near the moors had always wondered what was behind this terrifying mist that had stemmed some of their most horrible stories. So, naturally, when the threat of the Mist Witch seemed to be gone, they had to explore. The witch controlled the moors, and since she was peaceful, so were they. This made them a perfect place for a town, with flatlands, clear lakes and streams, and perfect soil for farming. The people built and built, but they always kept a considerable distance away from the old manor.

Stories were passed around from when the first settlers came there. Some said that there was an evil demon living in the house, others said it was just abandoned. But none of them had ever actually been into the mysterious Victorian mansion. And they couldn't help but wonder what was inside.

15 years later again, not. Helping. Sorry…

“I dare you” everyone gasped. “D-d-dare?” her voice shook as she tried to understand why someone would be so cruel. He glared back at her “You wanna fit in here, new kid?” she refused to move, his words would not get to her. He paused and considered his words and dipped his chin ever so slightly. Why was she surprised? Everything was going as she had seen. The world felt like it was closing in on her. She was going into the manor. Ooh, a girl? That's new too… Why do you think I wanted to tell it? It’s been… what, not even 3 paragraphs, and you’ve already missed two major elements of the story! On with it now, before you make any other mistakes. Ok then…

Creeeeeeeaak. The door opened and hit the wall behind it. Out of all things she did not expect this. There were two stairways, one on top of another. The first one was leading to a brighter-looking second floor (or first floor, she guessed. Since you couldn't possibly count this narrow passageway as a whole first floor); and the second one went down to a darker basement type area. Both stairways had doors at the end of them, but… she looked again. This couldn't be possible. The stairways looked like they were coming from the same place, about 50 feet ahead of her in the hallway. But then again, she could clearly see the other staircase from her vantage point… it must be some sort of optical illusion. She shook her head and tried to remember which door led to the… whatever was up there. The dreams had always been vague, and she always remembered the strangest details; like the fact that the third stair from the top was broken, and she would fall through the floor if any weight was put on the seemingly sturdy plank of wood.

So she climbed. And climbed. And climbed. Now, this part she hadn’t seen in her dreams all those months ago; the stairs kept going on seemingly forever! Wait, either that or she just wasn’t moving. And as if the stairs had read her mind, they compacted themselves until she was staring at the door [at the top of the stairs]. How-what? Ummm… Wow, I’m surprised you’ve kept quiet for this long! What has it been, a whole paragraph?! I’m so proud. Hold up. That was sarcastic too. Ding ding ding! We have a winner. Wow. smooth. Just sm- Alright that’s enough, moving on but- nope. Pressing her hand to the door, she could almost feel it moving, as if the whole house was… breathing. Pushing open the door a crack, she looked into the room.

Inside there was a girl, seemingly only a couple years older than herself sleeping on a window bench. She had her head propped up against the window, and a small cloud appeared on the glass every time she breathed. Even sleeping, she looked wild and carefree, as unpredictable as the moors themselves. She crept closer, making her way across the floor, which was indeed breathing with the girl; in fact, the whole house was! It even seemed as if even the winds outside were controlled by her breath! She crept closer, trying to get a better look at the mysterious girl when all of a sudden the girl’s eyes snapped open. “Oh come on I’m always late for everything” she muttered, getting up from the bench and dusting herself off. The second girl stumbled back a step, tripping over an ornate footstool and falling to the ground. Or, almost at least. Right before she fell, a gust of wind burst from a hole in the window and lifted her back onto her feet. “Careful there!” the first girl giggled. “But-what… how… did you?!?!?” “Yes,” she giggled again. “I have been waiting for you, did you know that?” The second girl hesitated, then shook her head. “I am Arne, Daughter of Aeolus, goddess of the wind” The other girl gaped. “But you may call me Cassandra” She looked at the other girl now, as if signaling her to introduce herself too. “And I am Adeline, daughter of Queen Lilliane, and I need your help”.
