Fantasy Urban Fantasy Coming of Age

Kiera stared at the three crazed vampires in front of her baring their fangs. The male vampires were both fifteen like she was but, loomed over her like trees. The female vampire was shorter than the boys, but her armor-clad talons more than made up for the difference in height. Kiera noted the situation she found herself in and chuckled.

“Really, Jack? You didn’t tell me you were bringing friends to the party.” Kiera crouched and brought her fists closer to her face. “I would’ve put on my party dress if I had known there was going to be a crowd.”

“Just like a human to whine about things being unfair.” The lead vampire hissed. “You’re the one who accepted the dare in the first place. I beat you in a fight and you leave our clan.”

“And if I win, I get a vial of your blood for a Spell Work I’ve been working on. Actually, make it three vials. I’ll just take the extra ones from your friends here.” Kiera smirked.

“Do you really want to do this?” Nolan, Kiera’s partner asked from a window ledge he sat on from above.

“Stay out of this you useless halfling. It’s bad enough to have a vampire with human blood in our ranks. A human in our clan like your little girlfriend here is an insult to our way of life!” Jack slowly advanced toward Kiera.

“If you have a problem with who my father lets into the clan, take it up with him.” Nolan replied coldly. “That said, if you were smart, you’d cut your losses now and just forget this entire situation.”

“Spoken like a true coward,” the female vampire turned her blood red eyes to Nolan above. “You must get that from your dead mother.”

“Coming from three pure bred vampires who feel the need to gang up on a human, that’s high praise indeed,” Noland said flatly before turning his attention back to Kiera. “Are you sure you don’t need any help beating the crap out of these guys?”

Kiera smiled at her oldest friend. “I see what you’re doing. They didn’t bring enough to share so you’ll just have to get your lumps in next time. These losers are all mine for the night!” Kiera charged at the second male vampire with blinding speed.

“You-!” The vampire slashed air with his claw where Kiera use to be.

“That was way slower than I thought vampires were capable of!” Kiera crouched down in front of the surprised vampire. “Well, I can’t say that you didn’t impress me!” Kiera slammed her fist into the vampire’s stomach sending him flying into a brick wall behind him.

The vampire’s wide eyes slowly closed as he sank to the ground silently.

“How the hell-!” Jack bounced back a few feet away from Kiera. “No human can move like that!”

“And yet, here we are.” Kiera grinned from ear to ear.

“You didn’t study your enemy?” Nolan looked at Jack with wide eyes. “Well, that was a stupid mistake.”

“Seriously, you didn’t think to at least figure out my Spell Work affinity before goading me into this lame fight?”

“Shut up!” The female vampire sprang at Kiera her metal claw extended.

“Well…no” Kiera effortlessly twirled out of reach. “I mean, I know all about your Blood Spell Works. The guy who’s sleeping over there for example has the power to communicate telepathically with his Blood Spell Work.” Kiera jumped out of the way of the girl vampire’s kick this time. “And your Blood Spell Work allows you to paralyze your enemies if they get nicked by one of your fangs or claws.”

“You don’t know anything!” The female vampire roared.

“I know not to let you touch me!” Kiera leapt into the before anyone could see her and kicked the female vampire in the face knocking her to the ground with enough force to kick up a lot of dust.

“How dare you, you bitch!” Jack howled before digging his fangs deep into his arm.

“Aww…don’t worry. I didn’t forget you. Your particular ability turns your blood into weapons.” Kiera clasped her palms together focusing her energy at a single point. “Whatever weapon you form, t’s not going to be enough.”

“You overconfident little shit!” the blood dripping from Jack’s arm twisted into a scarlet sword.

“Language, Jack. You never know if children are listening.” Lightning crackled in between Kiera’s hands.

“I’ll kill you and take whatever punishment the master deals out later!” Jack charged at Kiera sword in hand.

“And then you’ll wake up from the dream.” Kiera fired an orb of crackling blue light right at Jack’s chest sending him skidding across the ground.

“Wha-” Jack stared at Kiera in confusion before crumpling to the floor.

“Well, that was fun.” Kiera turned to Nolan. “Hey, can you come hold them while I extract the blood?”

“I guess.” Nolan leapt down from the ledge gracefully. “Why did you want pure vampire blood again?”

“I’ve been working on a cancel Spell Work that would temporarily block blood Spell Works and need their blood to test it.” Kiera collected Jack’s blood.

“And this couldn’t have waited until we got back from our next mission?” Nolan held the other two vampires while Kiera extracted their blood.

“I wanted to perfect this Spell Work for our next mission. We’re going up against the Dark Sorceress after all.”

“You’re worried? That’s not like you.” Nolan smirked at Kiera.

“I’m not worried about us. It’s just the other two who are going to be a problem.”

“Your brothers? You have to get to them before the sorceress and her people do. I only wish I could help you.” Nolan sighed.

“And you will. The prophecy says I have to do part of this on my own, but we’ll crush some skulls when the time comes.” Kiera pocketed the vials and turned to leave.

“What about these guys?” Nolan asked.

“Let them sleep under the moon’s light. When the sun comes up, you and I will be starting our mission.” Kiera walked off into the cool night air.
