I'm in the backyard, sipping some lemonade, and it has been the longest hottest day of the summer. Mom says I should head inside, but I tell her there is nothing better to do. I decide to go downtown. I tell Mom, then I grab my bike, and head out. Everyone seems to be crowding in downtown. It happens here in Texas. They go downtown on hot days and just sit like old hogs. It's weird. But this summer, no this day, is especially weird. It seems the number of people has doubled. Hmm. And there all odd-looking. Or at least half of them are. I know the other half by heart. Friends, neighbors, or just people we know. Anyway, I continue downtown. I see Abbie, my best friend.
"Hey, Abbie what's going on here?" I ask.
"No clue, I just came. But it looks like a crowd of people from the town next to us came over. Or so that's what I heard."
"Thanks for telling me. That's odd though. Why would they suddenly come for no reason?"
"No clue, but my Mama is waiting for me. Me and Billy Joe have to go somewhere. No clue where we are going though," Abbie says. She likes to say no clue a lot. I wave her goodbye and I continue walking. I see a man with a golden stick thing, and he's walking around like he's the boss round here. He most definitely looks like it. He starts walking up to me. I look at my phone to pretend to be busy. It's only ten am. Wow, this really is a long one. I look up and the gold-stick man has a watch. He rewinds it. I look at my phone again. It says nine am. What, it was just ten.
"Hello sir, I have a question."
"Well look what we have here," he says all cowboy mode.
"Sir are you changing the time, and where are you from," I say. I'm good at solving and observing things.
"That sounds quite funny. Now run off and play with your dollies," he says.
" Now if you excuse me, sir, I have no dollies. My daddy is in charge of the town, I'll get ya in trouble if I have to," I threaten him.
"RUN NOW," he screams. I run away terrified. I grab my bike and speed home. I get back on the porch. Ya, I'm a scardey cat all right.
Later on at ten, I see the man walking down my street. I sneak up behind him. He's on the phone.
"Now Mr.McIntosh, I'm slowing down time to steal from the bank. The only thing is, there is a snotty little girl who thinks I'm up to no good. Yes sir. Okay see ya later," he says. He shoves the phone into his pocket. I step on a branch and trip. Mr. Gold-stick looks at me and says,
"Oh look what we have here". I immediately know I'm in huge trouble.
"HELLPPPPPPPPP, HELP, HELP, PLEASE," I scream. Mr man stuck me in his truck. Now, look where my spying got me to. At least this long day would be interesting. I was getting kidnapped, but maybe I could beat him up, or not.
Mr person told me to shut my darn little girlie mouth. Like I was. I was only stopping because my throat hurt. So far I figured out his name was Josh Linn. The criminal on the loose round here in the whole state of Texas. I've also learned that he is planning to kidnap some popular people's kids, to get the word spreading around bout something, not too sure. The last thing I could catch from the second phone call he had was that they were planning to keep this day going on forever until all banks in Texas were empty. I wanted to tell someone, but he stole my phone from me. But me and my momma have a walkie-talkie. I tried to get her, but she's at work. Now I have an evil genius's plan, and I have no one to tell it to. Usually, me and Abbie joked that if we got kidnapped we would be joking around. Ya wish.
The drive felt so long until we finally stopped. He shoved another girl by me. It was my time. I jumped out of the back, and started hopping away I tore off the tape and ran to someone's house. I also managed to grab the timepiece thing. I run and look behind me. Josh is chasing me, and that's the last thing I see.
Woah. I wake up from my nightmare, feeling like I had sweated mountains and mountains of sweat. At least I managed to get away from this so-called "Josh". And why did I imagine the longest day ever? I go back to sleep, still thinking my dream was too real.
The next morning I wake up. Wait I check the time, and it's ten am. I have this timepiece in my hands. Wait it wasn't a dream. The house I ran to was mine? What. I didn't get a thing. I grabbed the timepiece and smashed it to pieces. I have no idea what just happened, but I never want it to happen again.
The timepiece reappears again. What the heck, why is this happening. I smash it again, but it reappears, AGAIN. Maybe I need to set the time right. Last time it was nine then ten. Maybe I needed to follow a pattern of this morning. I walk around town everywhere I went and changed the time of when I was there. I talk to Abbie again, ask her all the questions, and wave her goodbye. I walk around where I met John. I reset the time of when I talked to both Abbie and John. Everything seems good. I double-check everything, then I smash the timepiece. Done. Finally gone. The longest day or morning was over.
