Fantasy Science Fiction Fiction

Floating on a piece of strange lightweight metal in the sea, a strange person in odd clothing drifts aimlessly upon the calm water. He awakens with a bit of surprise, and realizes he doesn't know who he is, where he is, or how he came to be there. He pulls his legs out of the water then sits up, and he sees an island off in the distance. Its not too far so he gets in the water and starts to swim the raft over to the it. It doesn't take long for him to reach the beach, but when he gets there he collapses onto the sand and passes out. He comes to and the sun is halfway across the sky. From his reckoning there is only a few more hours of daylight, so he decides to go and explore, and find some shelter for the night.

He comes upon a cave that looks well sheltered and dry, with some trees nearby, so he goes in for a closer look to check it out. When he gets to the mouth of the cave he sees inside and is surprised to find that there is a burnt down fire pit, and a makeshift bed of big leaves over some grass. Whoever it was that resided here, was clearly not in at the moment, and with dark approaching, knowing nowhere else to go, he decided to stay for awhile. When inside he saw that there was strange artwork upon the walls, and writing in an unfamiliar hand. The artwork was a drawing of crude animals, and stick figure people with spear sticks. It reminded him of drawings a child would make, and with a flash of recall he had a memory pop into his head…

He sat at a table with a woman and two small children, and he knew that this was his family, but couldn't recall names. The memory faded and he was once again looking at the strange artwork upon the wall. He shook his head to clear it and looked around the cave. Over by the bed there was odd dolls made of sticks and vines. He walked over, knelt down and picked one up. Once again he was reminded of something a child would make, which made him wonder about his family. Trying to recall names he just drove the memories further away, and Finally he decided to let it go for the moment.

He put the doll down where he found it and went over to the fire pit. There were bones, both big and small, most charred and burnt. There was clearly no wood to be found, and no way to start a fire, so he walked back over to the bed and sat down on it. It was comfortable enough for what it was. The light outside was starting to get darker, and the shadows grew long. Soon it was dark and the only thing he could see outside was a moon and stars, but they looked strange to him. Especially the moon, it was the wrong color, and there was only one of them instead of the twins that usually crossed the night sky.

When it was full dark he noticed that there was glowing stars upon his suit, seven of them in the shape of a ladle or a long spoon. He recalled that it was the insignia for the place in which he worked, but couldn't recall what he did exactly. Something to do with the stars and space. There were other glowing marks upon his suit as well, but they were just fanciful designs that he couldn't place meaning with. Mostly just lines and geometric shapes. He got the feeling they were important but not exactly why.

He laid down on the bed, and found that despite being unconscious allot recently, he was actually pretty tired. Perhaps passing out from exhaustion and actual sleep were significantly different. He closed his eyes and soon must have fallen asleep because he was dreaming. He was back at a house and he knew it was his home. His children and wife were there. Then it cut away and he was at a place with lots of computers and machinery. There was a large display with a yellow star similar to his and a grouping of planets around it, about 8 in all, each one strange and unique. The third world from the sun had and marker on it and a bunch of numbers next to it.

The dream cut away again and he was in some kind of space ship, going through space at great speeds as he lay down in an odd metal and plastic casket. When it cut again he was crashing into a large body of water, and then he knew no more. He woke up to the sound of a beeping and noticed it was coming from his wrist. He looked down at it an saw that it was lit up and there were words and numbers that were familiar to him it said. - proximity sensors alerted, please stand by= and under that -language translator active- he didn't really know exactly what it all meant but got a general idea that it was pretty important. He heard what sounded like footsteps and something being dragged from out side the cave. he sat up and rolled off the bed and crawled over towards the back of the cave as far as he could.

He wasn't hidden, but it was better than laying on someone Else's bed. The dragging and footsteps grew closer and soon a figure came into view and he saw that it was dragging the piece of metal that he was floating on. Something seemed odd about the figure, as if it were strangely shaped and wearing a peach colored skin all over itself. The figure saw him and dropped the metal and pulled a sharp stick off its back. It held it forth in a threatening way and spoke “who are you and what are you doing in my house? Why do you look like that, what kind of costume are you wearing?” the figure stepped closer and pointed the spear. The guy held up his hands and said “I didn't know where else to go, it was getting dark. I just washed in from the sea on that metal you were dragging. I'm lost and I don't know who I am. What do you mean why do I look like this? Its just a normal flight suit…”

The figure lowered the spear slightly and spoke “I mean your blue! That's not normal and your shaped funny. Is that a costume?” the guy looked the figure up and down and responded “this isn't a costume this is my skin and as far as my shape, its perfectly normal. Now you on the other hand your peach colored and your head is really round. Is that normal for you here, wherever here is?” the figure lowered the spear all the way and spoke “ are you from outer space? Like an alien?” the guy responded “I think I may be, what is this place?”

The figure responded “this is an island I have been stuck on for many years, this planet tho is earth, I've lived here my whole life… its been a long time since I've had any visitors. Actually I've never had a single visitor. where are you from exactly?” the space guy walked slowly out of the cave and looked up into the sky. After a few minutes looking around he saw a group of stars that matched the glowing stars on his suit. He pointed up into the sky as the figure walked over and he spoke to it “I think I'm from up there, from those 7 stars and that's about all I know…”
