Adventure Romance Fiction

Why in all of the beautiful Autumn days in NY did I decide to take the train, I should have just taken an Uber. I’m a hiker with a ridiculous amount of gear on my back, who is now trapped in this moving sardine can. I guess when you live in the city for all your life you become accustomed to the belief that the train is the most logical and affordable form of transportation. Today, I am heading to my favorite spot up in the Catskills Mountains. Once I get off this life drainer, I will walk in the peace of what nature has painted for me today. This was my escape, my Zen, my only retreat from the hustle and bustle of living in the city…Oomph…I hate this god awful train.

As I was about to close my eyes and drown my dread in the tunes of my favorite playlist, I glanced over to the right and I see this strikingly beautiful man looking my way. I can tell he was tall, just by his Adonis stature. I found myself dreaming of running my hands through his brown wavy hair and swimming in the stream of his turquoise eyes. I know there had to be dimples under his perfectly manicured beard, just by the bashful smirk he sent my way when he caught me staring at him. I was like a kid drooling over some fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies. Lord, I can’t keep my eyes off this man, it’s rare to see someone of the opposite sex this drop dead gorgeous. As women, being the most exquisite and stunning creatures God has created, sure…we break necks all the time, but very uncommon to see a man who would most definitely give any women whip lash by how good looking he is.

As the train continued to make stops I noticed he wasn’t getting off, was he getting off at the same station as me…Omg…wouldn’t that be destiny? What I’m I thinking, it’s not like I’m going to actually talk to him. I would be the Anastasia to his Julian Grey. I’m average, but still cute, well at least I think I am. I am sure I would never be his type, he probably has some Victoria Secret model girlfriend waiting for him at home.

It’s here, the final stop. I get up and begin to walk to the exit, as the train stops and the doors open I begin to walk out with the rest of the herd, when all of a sudden I feel myself falling face first, but quickly saved by these incredibly strong hands. I turned immediately around, it was him, my Adonis, he was even more stunning being only inches away from me. In the most sultry deep voice he apologizes and makes a joke about how being blind all his life you would think he would have learned by now not to trip people with his walking stick. I had no idea what to say, for that split second I was mesmerized and came to the quick realization of my delusional thought that he was staring back at me during our dreadful train ride. After I quickly awoke from my shock, I apologized and was about to race off when he asked…“Where are you heading to in such a rush?” I told him I’m taking a hike to my beloved spot, where nature’s art gallery is free of charge. He asked me if he could join. Although I was beyond astonished by his request, I was elated that he would have wanted to join stranger on her quest, a person he doesn’t even know, much less see.

I agreed to his company and we set off for our adventure. I described every thing we came across, from the smallest critter, colors of the leaves that still sparkled in all autumns luminosity, to the ever changing imbuement of earth’s wallpaper (the sky). I often wondered if he was getting tired of me speaking, I have been known to be quite the chatter box. I’m just so passionate when I come out here, it was hard to keep my excitement contained. I ended up talking all the way till I got to my main spot. We sat at the top of the small Catskill Mountain overlooking the crystal blue waterfall. I told him how every time the sun hits the water so perfectly, it was like watching a million tiny fairies dancing to their magical songs. We talked for hours, but I couldn’t let the day end without asking him why me, why did he choose to spend the day with me? This is what he said…“you may have not noticed, but we have been on the same train many times and in those times I am traveling with my closest friend, who has described you to me, down to the very tiny beauty mark above your pink glossed lips. You my dear are God’s Picasso, a work of art. I smiled at you today, because this is the first time my friend told me you finally looked my way. I was ecstatic as I thought to myself maybe I could finally have the opportunity to join you on your adventure. I wanted to see the world through your eyes and I thank you for painting it in the most passionate and ostentatious way.”

How could this be, I’m not only sitting in front of the most captivating view that nature has to offer, but also being complemented by a Zeus like Mortal who thinks I am beautiful?

We continued the afternoon walking, touching and feeling everything that earth has birthed, the cool Autumn breeze kissed both our cheeks till they turned rosy pink, or it could have been the electricity coursing through my body sending all the blood rushing to my face every time our eyes met. I wanted to spend every waking moment in this very spot with him, being his eyes and showing him what this planet has gifted us.

I love how it feels like I'm in your mind! It feels as if the story was cut very short. The concept you have is good but it would've been better if you wrote a little more about the trip and about who he is more than what he looks like. Other than that, really great story.

Thank you Brittany for your feedback, I totally appreciate it. Not to make excuses, I literally found out about this less than 7 hours for the contest to close, so I whipped up the story on my dreadful android notepad🥰. But may definitely take your advice and expand on the story.
