A chill settled over the city, the kind of chill that accompanied something that was supernatural or otherwise. Sure, let other people think what they wanted, but don’t take it out on the normal people of the world just because they had their faults and everyone else had their faults too.
For fuck’s sake.
The young woman who was walking back to her apartment looked around at the people who were looking at her weirdly. This was a town full of secrets, and she was one who had the biggest secret of all: Her lover was not human, even though he appeared human.
A few months prior to that night, she had met the young man when he had crashed into her backyard while she was studying for some college tests. She had helped him, nursed him back to health, taught him about the human race, and he had grown closer to her as a result, eventually becoming her boyfriend. It was odd in a way but she had thought he was pretty cute in the first place anyways. They had even shared a couple of romantic moments together before cementing their relationship.
She moved her blonde hair back, worried for her safety. She wasn’t quite skilled in any fighting abilities nor did she have anything on her to protect herself. She rounded a corner into an alleyway and stopped when she heard laughter and catcalls. Her nerves made her tense up before she started running down the alley to get out of the area.
Suddenly, she was grabbed from behind and tossed against a wall, being pinned there by a couple of thugs, one of them holding a knife to her neck as he spoke, “Alright, sweetie. Let’s make sure you cooperate, huh?”
She struggled against them, not listening to what he was saying, before she kicked the one in the crotch to get him away and turned her wrist to get free before she started running again, going into a fast pace as she reached the door and slammed it shut quickly, panting heavily as she tried to catch her breath.
A young man ran over to her and supported her, asking in a worried tone, “Hey, Abby. Easy. Are you okay?”
She looked up at the man and nodded as she responded, “I… I think so… Holy fuck…”
He helped her to the couch, setting her down gently as he sat next to her and talked in a soothing tone, “Okay, get your breath under control. Tell me what happened.”
Abby slowly regained control of her breathing and took a shaky breath before she explained to him what had happened. “Oh shit… Eron, I was so scared…” She hugged him gently, letting her tears fall on his shoulder.
Eron hugged her back, holding her close as his eyes started to glow out of anger. “I can’t believe some fuckers…” His powers looked to be slowly getting a little out of control, but he reigned them in again. His people from the planet of Elementia would often connect their emotions to their abilities, and in his case, his emotions connected to his twilikinesis.
Abby looked at him, moving her hand to his face and gently caressed it. “Thank God I knew enough to get out of their grip,” she muttered softly as she used her free hand to brush her long black hair back behind her ear.
He nodded and stroked her hair gently. “I already almost lost you once. I don’t want that to happen again,” he reminded her.
She nodded, knowing exactly what he meant: About two weeks prior to this attack, some of the aliens from his planet had kidnapped her in order to make him use the reserves of his powers. Conveniently, using the last of those reserves had assisted him in tapping into his locked powers, thus he had unleashed them on the villains and locked them away in the ether.
He kissed her forehead, the touch sending tingles of pleasure down her spine. It was rare for her to get these kinds of feelings around other men, but when he kissed her in any place, it felt so goddamn good that she couldn’t get enough of it.
She tried distracting her mind from the attack as she grabbed the remote, searching through the TV channels until she found a movie for them to watch as she snuggled up against him.
He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and leaned his head against hers softly, inhaling her sweet scent of raspberries and cherry blossoms that he had come to love oh so much. He looked down and whispered into her ear softly, “I love you, Abigail Weslong.”
She looked up at him and smiled softly, responding quietly herself, “I love you too, my dear Eron.”
He turned her face slightly so she faced him, his index finger and thumb gently holding her chin, before he leaned in and kissed her smoothly and passionately.
She responded with equal passion and vigor as she slowly moved her hands around his neck and turned her body so she was straddling him, carefully pushing him down so he was lying face up as she continued to kiss him, her hands slowly sliding down his well-sculpted body.
It was hard to believe that in a world so distant, so far away, so unknown to her, that he wasn’t desired enough by women for how he looked. Hell, she certainly could care less about the other women who had a crush on him. He looked damn fine in his uniform and she loved it.
The program changed to play a romantic movie, the mood making the perfect setting for the two lovers as they continued their amorous pursuits, melting into the world behind them.
In a city that had their secrets, whether they be useful or not, supernatural or normal, creative or bland, dangerous or safe, white, black, or even morally gray, sometimes the best secrets are the ones that are kept hidden under the covers.
