Part 1:
The moment I was born my parents knew there was something wrong with me. Hence my name Deavland, a name said to bring misfortune, pain, and being well of course...unlucky. So fitting ya know. My father is leader of my flight which means I got all the important tasks. "Check the area" or "Tell Mother other flights are coming". He has hope. To much hope. I've tried flying but he wont understand, his hope gets in the way. I cant fly, I've tried believe me. Everyone in the flight has noticed, my wings are way to small. Not just like "oh he'll grow" small but "what kind of CATOSTROPHIC thing did you do to his wings?! small. Just a part of being me. I'm a dragon that puts other dragons to shame but, father is here with his hope. "One last time" he'll beg to the council "One last I swear". He begged and begged to them so the council agreed. They agreed to letting me check the surroundings. Wasting a day sitting there looking and you guessed it flying. I spent hours trying to think of way around this...and I did. The buildings, the castles, the fence line! I could walk and run across them, not using my wings at all. So, the time comes I hear my father boom at me "DEAVLAND! Todays your last chance son". He shot a grand breath of fire and a confidence-lacking smile. He gestured at me and sent me off. I felt the stares as I walked to the fence. They thought I couldn't hear the whispers "its the flightless dragon" and "look at his wings". I finally made it to the fence line, well this is where it starts, humility, staring into space-no not space sky. I scaled up the side of a pillar to get a good view and heard a couple of giggles. I got up there and nothing but blue skies oh and a couple of clouds. I had sat there for I'd say about 15 solid minutes, "Devie-poo" a familiar voice called. Oh frickiedoodles , it was my mother "You gotta move around you know". "Yeah I know" I called down to her "I-uh ummm wanted to get a good um feeling of up here". Worst. Excuse. Ever. "M-kay" she called back up "love you Devie, you're gonna do great!". The emphasis she put on great was petrifying, blood curdling. I shot a sheepish smile and I don't know if dragons can tip toe but I sure did. I made my way slowly but surely to the middle of the barrier. I heard faint wings and glanced over my scaly shoulder. No, no, no it was a flight coming. Not just any flight a HUGE flight. "Hey!" I screamed frantically down at anyone who could hear me. "HEY!" I screamed again "A FLIGHT IS HERE!". A dragon with beautiful blue scales neck nearly snapped looking up at me. He-at least I think it's a he heard me. He shot me a nod and ran, to my nest, my fathers nest. I couldn't stop moving and jittering. He came back with my father he was shaking too. "DEAVLAND" he boomed-I knew this all to well "GET DOWN". I couldn't, I cant fly. I wouldn,t be able to get down in tome. The flight saw me struggling. They saw me shake and shudder as I saw them change direction. Changed coming directly at me. I watched them come and closer towards me. "Father! Father Help!" I shrilled "PLEASE". The sound of their wings was louder it was aligning with my pounding heart. My father saw. He jumped up and started beating his wings. He started to fly and that was the last thing I heard.
Part 2:
I awoke in my nest with my father, my mother, and the blue dragon from earlier well what seemed like earlier. "Y-you okay?" the blue dragon stuttered. He was a he. "Uh yeah" I barely manage to get out. "No he's not" My father said sternly glaring at the blue dragon. "He messed up. Big time." "He cant help it!" my mother pitched in now. "His wings don't work". Blue dragon broke his neck again. "I'm fine" I strained again "b-but the flight what about them?" "Taken care of" Blue dragon and father said in unison. "F-for the blue one" "Aldoron" he interrupted. Funny he was named after the dragon god. "Why did you help me?" "Good question" my father snarled. Aldoron glanced at my father and said "well you needed help. Always help your flight especially if your father is Flight Leader. He stifled a laugh as dad told me that the council would soon be arriving. " I don't like that boy" he whispered to my mother "He. Saved. His. Life. Show at least an ounce of respect". The council arrived with the most condescending grimaces I've ever seen. "So" one of them snapped sharply "Deavland failed once...again". "His title should be revoked" one pitched in. "No" Father said "I am the leader of this flight and I say not". "He cannot fly!" the council member who suggested revoking my title jeered. "A disgrace" one said. "A menace" said the other. "Stop." Aldoron said sternly. "Boy, wants to attempt to defy the council hmmmmm?" "No". Adoron said just as sternly as before. "I simply wish you would stop the insults". "Whatever" the council member said waving his hand. The energy in the room was so tense, I could feel my jaw tightening. Everyone shuffled in an awkward silence until Aldoron broke it. "What is your plan for Deavland?" "Why get YOU to make him new wings of course!" Aldoron's jaw dropped. "M-me m-make him wings?!" "Well yes" the council member started "Who else?" "I-I don't know" Aldoron stuttered "a more experienced dragon?" "No" I said. It was like something had taken over me "I want Aldoron to do it". My father's jaw hit the floor, so did Aldoron's, so did mine. "Well, well, well" the council member said " you cant argue with that one."
