Fantasy

The mist rolled through the forest as Jacob and Amy made their way towards the main road to wait for the school bus. These early winter mornings were getting to Jacob. Amy had been accepted onto the swim team at their high school and she needed to be there before 5 am. Their mom had asked him to go with her to school in the winter mornings when it was still dark. They walked silently through the forest, Amy in front, excited to be on a team her first year at high school. Jacob usually dragged his feet. This morning he was so tired and kept rubbing his eyes. He heard a crunch, looking sideways and not seeing anything, then looking at Amy to see if she noticed the noise. Nope, she was still walking on. Maybe it was a squirrel? He carried on walking. Then he heard a weird buzzing noise and then the crunching again. He stopped and looked to the side. Nothing. Jacob decided to carry on walking. He tried to close the gap between himself and Amy. After a few seconds, Jacob heard the buzzing noise and then the crunching again. He stopped looking towards the sound. He squinted and tried to see what that noise was. He saw a yellow-colored shape moving behind a tree. Jacob shook his head and looked again. Nothing.

“Amy, wait up” Jacob called after his baby sister, running to catch up.

“Jacob, we're late the bus is there already.” Amy groaned, stepping onto the main road next to the school bus.

Jacob looked back but couldn't see anything or hear the buzzing noise anymore.

The whole day at school it bugged Jacob that he had heard something. But what could it be? Was he tired and imagined the noise and shape moving? no, he was going to get to the bottom of this when he gets home.

That afternoon Jacob waited for Amy outside the school. As soon as she arrived, Jacob started to rush home.

“Um, Jacob, why are we rushing?” Amy said out of breath.

“I got a lot of homework I want to get started with,” Jacob replied over his shoulder.

Amy shrugged. Once they got home, Jacob rushed to his room to find his old digital video camera. He put it on charge. He’ll have to go out in the morning again and try to find out what he thought he saw.

The next morning Amy and Jacob started walking to the main road. He made sure he had the camera recording as soon as they walked out the front door. He wasn't going to miss videoing whatever was out there. As they were walking Jacob made sure he moved the camera slowly from side to side. When they were in the forest, he heard the buzzing noise again, he turned the camera towards the noise. There standing in the mist was a tall skinny figure with a large oval-shaped head and glowing green eyes. The buzzing got louder as Jacob tried to focus his eyes on the figure.

“Amy, stop walking,” Jacob whispered

“Jacob, I don’t wanna be late again.” Amy sighed.

As she turned to argue with her brother she noticed he wasn’t looking at her and followed his gaze. Then she saw the figure, she couldn’t stop herself from screaming. The next minute the figure disappeared into the trees above them. The buzzing noise grew louder. Their dad arrived next to Jacob with his shotgun at the ready.

“What in the damn hell happened? Why was Amy screaming?” their dad shouted.

They couldn’t talk for a few seconds, then Jacob said, “You've gotta watch the video, you won't believe us.”

As they walked back into the house their dad took the video camera from Jacob and plugged it into the tv. They all watched in silence. Then Amy’s scream filled the room again. Their mom came into the room.

“Was that noise?” she asked.

“Honey, called the school the kids won’t be in today.” was all their dad could say.

Once they had shown their mom and Jacob had explained what he heard, they decided to call the police. Within twenty minutes they had arrived, watched the video, and chatted with Jacob and Amy. Aaron Smith, the policeman, told Amy and Jacob to go back to their room and rest.

“Mr. and Mrs. Williams, this doesn’t look good. We'll have to inform the FBI and they'll corner off this whole forest. But it needs to be done.” Aaron told them. Mr. and Mrs. Williams nodded.

By the time Jacob and Amy woke up, the FBI had arrived. They had cornered the forest where Mr. Williams had found them that morning. They had even set up a tent for when they found the so-called alien.

“They won’t hurt him,” Amy asked, once she had finished being questioned.

“Amy dear, it is a creature that does not belong here. They need to find it and take care of it. These people know what they’re doing. “ Mrs. Williams said as she looked around at everything.

As night fell, no one had spotted the so-called alien. The FBI had informed the family that if they had not found anything in two days they would leave. This meant that they couldn’t leave their house. The family decided to have an early night but as Jacob lay in his bed, he started hearing the buzzing again. At first, he thought he was imagining it. But it was getting louder and louder. As he sat up in his bed, he looked at his window and sitting on the roof was the same figure he had seen that day. Jacob didn’t know what to do. He walked to his window and opened it. The figure slid into his room like a shadow. It started to buzz and click softly.

“Are you trying to talk to me?” Jacob asked the figure. It nodded. “Well, I don’t understand.”

The figure looked around his room and noticed the stereo. It slid towards the shelf with Jacob’s stereo, turning his head and looking at it. Finally, the figure lifted up his hand and put his finger into the headphone jack. The stereo turned on by itself and then Jacob heard a voice. At first, he thought it was white noise but then he heard it more clearly as the figure turned his finger around.

“My name is Db65. I am from a planet five hundred light-years away. I was sent here to gather information about this planet you call Earth. I come in peace. My ship is hidden in a cave on the mountain. Please help me to get back home.” the voice then started to repeat itself.

“If you promise not to hurt us, I'll help you,” Jacob whispered to the figure. It nodded again. Jacob snuck to Amy’s room and woke her up.

“Amy, the alien is in my room and needs our help to get to the cave in the mountain.” Jacob started.

At hearing this Amy started to scream, Jacob quickly covered her mouth.

“He promised not to hurt us. He wants to go home. You’ve seen E.T. They’ll hurt him.” Jacob realized he was close to tears. Amy nodded. Back in Jacob’s room, they dressed the figure in some old clothes. They decided they’d use the old family car to drive it up to the mountains. Hopefully being out in the open wouldn’t be so obvious. They left the house and climbed in the car-so far so good. Jacob turned the car on and it jerked to a start. As they drove out the garage, an FBI agent walked past. But didn’t stop them. They drove all the way to the mountain without any hassle. Once there the figure slid out the window and into the dark cave. Jacob turned the car around and headed home.
