Adventure Fantasy Friendship

A leather book dropped onto my boots, my trembling fingers picking it up. Tracing the name Lord Lakmia, Lust picked me up from behind. My eyebrow twitched irritably, a snarl curling on my lips. Setting me down gingerly, she swiped the diary from me. Tapping the cover, a jolt of electricity shocked her finger.

“You seem to have come across my brother’s diary.” She mused playfully, dropping it into my palm. “You can use it to summon him and take him under your wing.” Rolling my eyes, Finapple played with Darwin and Luna by the fountain. Wrathia popped up in front of me, silver roses lining her long pigtails. Attaching herself to my hips, her hand rested on my slight bump. Fighting the urge to scream at her, her elbow hooked around mine. Lust dropped my scythe into my other hand, Boran blocking their path.

“If you are doing something dangerous, you have to promise to bring her back in one piece. I am all for a bonding experience but if she dies you will be brutally murdered.” He threatened darkly, my hand touching his shoulder not relaxing his fraying nerves. Smoothing out the borrowed white wool shirt and black pants, the idea was not to destroy another one of my dresses. Putting his finger in the air, he rushed off. An awkward silence hung between us as we waited patiently for Boran to return. Returning with a brown leather case, he slid my scythe into its place. Hooking it around my shoulder, an emerald cloak hung off of his arm. Throwing it over my shoulders, his lips brushed the top of my head. Holding my hand for a second, his crooked grin met my worn expression.

“I love you, Dagger. Be careful, please.” He pleaded sweetly, standing up straight. “Somata would you mind going with them?” An excited grin spread cheek to cheek, his new brown leather cloak grazed the ground. Spinning around, a fresh crisp wool shirt emphasized the epic new cloak. Wanting me to comment on his outfit, I had no other choice but to give in.

“I like the look.” I teased lightly, letting him stand on the other side of me. “The plan today is to convince this guy to join our side or kill him if he doesn’t. Yet as simple as this sounds, this will be one of the hardest plans. Touching his curved blade, mixed emotions flashed in his eyes. Walking for hours, an empty circle of pine trees surrounded us. Untying the neat bow, a foreign language barraged me.  Tracing my finger along the page, the symbols moved around to what I could read. Flipping through the pages it was all the same thing until about halfway through. My jaw dropped to the ground, Lust had always wanted to be on my side. Closing my book, my legs shook like jelly as I struggled to my feet. Marching up to Lust, the corner of my lips quivered.

“Why did you want to be by my side this whole time?” I demanded uncouthly, a bit of nervous laughter twinkling in the air. “What was your game?” Crouching down to my level, her bright smile did little to ease my nerves. Playing with my ears, her lips brushed against the tops of my head.

“Would it be so hard to really think that someone would want to work for you? Do you know how far the wonder of what you have accomplished has spread?” She assured me kindly, cupping my face. “You inspired hope across the land. Although I do have to say, condemning a village to purgatory was a tad villainous. Granted they weren’t great people.” Slapping her hands off of my face, a snarl twitched on my lips. Shaking my head, she didn’t see the monster inside of me.

“I am a monster! I let people get killed in my charge. Scarlet would be alive and not in my soul if I was just twenty minutes sooner! Mina would be by my side. You can’t honestly believe what you say.” I barked bitterly, Somata attempting to comfort me. “I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and it gets heavier by the day. I got attacked by my best friend. I let Mina down by choosing to rule this land instead. So you tell me where I went right.” Flashes of the white armor caught my eyes, a cage with an ocean blue eyed demon rolled past us in the distance. His dirty blonde curls were the last thing we saw. Lust reached out for him, my hand cupping hers. The size difference was comical, the current conversation was over. Tears welled up in her eyes, my next words pleasing her.

“We are going to rescue him but he has to fight on my side. I am rescuing him only to be almost killed.” I comforted her gently, turning back to the others. “I don’t have any complaints, do I?’” Shooting me thumbs up, the Holy Knights were back at it. Scooping up his diary, we had to move if we were going to rescue them. Creeping along the tree line, the masked hunters glanced around. Turning to Wrathia, an idea flashed in my mind.

“Can you still copy a person who defeated your curse?” I inquired urgently, her head nodding. “Turn into me and lead them on a wild goose chase. Somata will help fight them off. Just your friendly reminder, you have a heart attack if you attempt to murder him.” Flipping me off, she clapped her hands over her head, a shiver running up my spine at the carbon copy of me. Somata flashed me a concerned look, a small smile shutting down his fear. Spinning her faux scythe over her head, she leapt over the bush.

“Come and get me, you losers.” She taunted cruelly, my ears pinning back. That was not how I talked, I fumed angrily to myself. Watching half the hunters chase after her, Luna's smile had faded. Turning towards her, my hands cupped hers.

“We will save them.” I assured a broken Luna, my lips kissing the top of her hands. “Can you hit a rock in the opposite direction? I need a bit to place my mark on him.” Spinning me around, a bit of her spunk returned. Picking up a rock, it spun in her palm. A quick flick sent it flying past our heads, Luna pulling me behind a tree.  Scarlet burned her cheeks, her body shielded my scent from the hunters. Only one remained behind, Luna stepping back.

“Save my brother for me.” She sighed sadly, peeling her whip from her belt. “I simply know you succeed.” Leaping out of our hiding spot, her heels clicked towards Wrathia and Somata. Lakmia’s eyes met mine, his head bowing in shame. Rushing up to his cage, his aura was as pure as mine. Examining his leather shirt, his shaking hands played with the spikes on his tunic.

“You must think that I am pathetic. I am supposed to be a fucking lord of darkness but I landed in the nest of these hunters.” He growled through gritted teeth, his hands crossing. Golden coins jingled on his worn leather boots, wonder brightened his eyes at the sight of my dragon arm. Holding the bar, the metal began to warm up.

“Absolutely not. Your current situation is all my fault. If I left her in the mirror, you wouldn’t be here.” I uttered simply, watching a silver rose form in my hand. “Eat this and you will be on my team. The rules are simple, you can’t kill anyone in my party. I would strongly advise against murder. The answer lies within you.” Snatching the rose from my palm, he shoved it into his mouth. Gritting his teeth, a silver rose snaked around his thick biceps. Sighing with relief the moment the agony was gone, his fingers gripped a spear with horses carved in the dark wooden handle. Tracing the black iron tip, lightning crackled up his arm. A red angry bar greeted me, the hot metal melting into a puddle. Squeezing out, a cloud of loose dirt obscured us. His height matched his sister’s, an unimpressed expression dimmed my features.

“Can we help our friends now?” He asked politely, his calming deep voice a pleasant contrast to his sister’s. “I would like to reunite with her.” Taking out my scythe, our boots crashed towards the chaos. Wrathia and Lust held off the best of them, my sharp whistle telling the bruised ladies to fall back. Leaping over them, another cloud of loose dirt obscured my vision. A worn blade nicked my cheek, Lakmia stabbing the attacker’s throat. Ruby painted my face the moment he ripped it out. An apologetic grin twitched on his lips. Picking me up by the ankle, he tossed me into the air. Lust shouted for the others to join me on the branch my body was dangling off of, the poor wood  groaning in protest. Slamming the tip of his spear into the dirt, my jaw dropped at the lightning spreading like the sea. The hunter’s dropped like ragged dolls, blood pooling around them. Something felt off, my eyes falling on a fast approaching giant bear. Occupied with his spell, Somata protested as I jumped from branch to branch. Horror rounded my eyes, my steady hands missing the next branch. Unfolding my wings, they slowed my landing. No one was going to hurt my friends, no family. Ignoring the lightning crackling around my boot, the fact that it wasn’t affecting me was not surprising me in the least bit. Charging at the bear, his large paw smashed me into the nearest tree. Using my scythe to guide me down the tree, my eyes watching Lakmia and his sister attack the bear with a ball of lightning and lashes of her wind. Wrathia paced anxiously behind them, a dark energy stealing my attention. Something glitched in the distance, shock rounding my eyes the moment a muscular body slammed into me. Whacking my head on the bark, the white armor was a dead giveaway. Rolling onto Wrathia's boots, concern flashed on her face. The leader of the Holy Knights had found me, her boots crunching closer. Snapping her fingers, Wrathia dropped to the ground. Checking her pulse she was fine, a slumbering Somata dropping into my arms. The golden horns twisted into the sky, a low growl rumbled from behind the ram mask.

“I see you killed the rest of my people and for that you must die.” A female voice threatened icily, my hands trembling. “Are you ready, Miss Lottie?” Raising a golden scythe, ruby eyes opened. Demonic energy swirled around the weapon, my heart sinking for her victims. Demons commanded a presence while this woman was able to take them without a second thought, my heart pounding out of my chest. Charging at me, golden flames devoured her weapon. Blocking her attack, the milky gem glowed to life. A white dragon roared to life behind me, silver water swirling around it. A golden dragon roaring behind her stole my breath away, the panic began to set in. Whipping vines in her direction, golden chains burst from her back. Ruby dripped from my nose, every muscle in my body aching in protest. Wrathia stirred awake, her blades spinning in her palm. Electricity bounced off of her, her body twitching in raw agony.

“I refuse to let you destroy my best friend.” She groaned venomously, coughing up blood. “The order is yours.” Clearing my throat, her fiery gaze begged for precious permission. Bowing my hand, my palms pressed together.

“You may kill this knight.” I gave in with a long sigh, watching a wicked grin dance across her lips. “I repeat, only this knight.” Maniacal laughter burst from her lips, her boots crashing towards him with her blades. Saluting me on the way, her speed was double mine. Our chances had increased, a whip joining the fight as well.

“I do hope you will help, my dear friend.” She mused playfully, stabbing the demonic eyes. “We need to get rid of all these eyes. Did you hear that Lust?” A hell yeah told me that she was all in, my dragon ready to fight hers. My vision blurred, my vines sharpening to a point. Allowing them to go insane, a death cry shattered the still air. A faded move warned us, the carcass of the bear flying in our direction. Leaping out of the way, the Holy Knight narrowly dodged the animal. Sniffing the air, a rancid smell drifted into the sky. A ticking noise rang in my ear, the stomach swelling at a rapid rate. Lust tossed me over her shoulder, Wrathia scooping up Somata. Sprinting away with all of their speed, my dragon flew back into the milky gem.  Whipping the ground until a large pit had formed, they leapt down. Wrathia mimicked a metal cover, a loud crack rattled my nerves. Flashes of blue light peaked through, the light dying down, Wrathia collapsing into a heap. Climbing out of the pit, Lust began to protest. Stepping onto the smoking dirt, the busted knight limped towards me. All but one demon eye remained, my dragon roaring to life. Vines snaked up my arm, a snap of my finger sending my dragon underneath the ground. Horror poisoned her smoky aura, a wicked grin spreading cheek to cheek. Expecting me to charge her, confusion furrowed her brows at me slamming the tip of my scythe into the dirt. The ground quaked, my dragon exploding underneath her. Barely surviving the initial attack, her quaking body stood in place. Vines snaked around her legs, wicked laughter rumbled in her throat. Mouthing a silent spell, shock rounded my eyes at my feet’s inability to move. A fireball headed my way, silver water building around my hand.

“Silver water, put out the fire heading my way.” I chanted shakily, coughing up blood. A ray of silver water shot from my palm, a couple of my organs bursting. The water met the fire, neither one canceling out each other. Locked in a power position, Wrathia popped up behind her. One swift swing beheaded her, the flames dying down. The knight’s head rolled to my feet, the ray of water shrank down to nothing. Crouching down, my palms pressed against the blackened dirt. Blue flames spread like the sea, the bodies beginning to decay into rose petals.

“May these souls rest well in Heaven. They started out with good intentions.” I wheezed, coughing up an unnatural amount of blood. Watching the rose petals float into the sky, sweet slumber stole me away.

Jerking awake, a concerned Emmie towered over me. Lust and the others rushed to my side, all of them fussing over me. A bit more white lined Wrathia’s aura, pride beaming in her eyes. Their chaotic words faded in and out, the multiple conversations becoming clear.  Raising a hand up, a serene silence came over the car. Lust kissed my forehead, her teardrops soaking my face.

“Thank you for saving my brother.” She sang angelically, her brother rolling his eyes. Smiling warmly down at me, curiosity peaked in my mind. Wrathia yanked me into a desperate embrace, Somata chuckling softly to himself. Plopping down onto the bench, his next words annoyed Wrathia and Lakmia.

“You guys were made to be villains this entire time and yet you are all sweet as a bunny.” He teased lightly, Emmie embracing me from the other side. “You have Lottified. How amusing. One thing does strike me as odd. How come your name means greed but you don’t have a greedy bone in your body, Lakmia?” Resting on his haunches, Lakmia ran his hands through his hair.

“My parents named me that and my little sister Lust. They were the original sins and expected us to be just like them. They were wrong to assume such a thing. Lust simply loves everybody and I want to be as generous as I can be. The irony is so sweet.” He explained serenely, sitting  down next to him. “The last lord is the same way. He should join your side if you wish.” Smiling warmly to myself, Wrathia purred the moment I hugged her waist. Wrathia had been extremely clingy lately, hardly ever leaving my side. She had become a third child at this point, my patience wearing thin at certain points.

“I didn’t like killing her.” She admitted sheepishly, gazing oddly at me. “I don’t understand.” Pride swelled in my chest, another small bit of progress having been made. Cupping her face, a new level of joy brightened her face.

“You are getting a conscience. You are beginning to feel things again. I am so proud of you.” I assured her in a motherly tone, her real smile flashing on her lips for a couple of seconds. “Keep up the good work.” Letting me go, Lust carried her to a bench on the other side. Emmie monopolized the moment, his tiny body landing on my lap. Ruffling his hair, his hands clapped together.

“The domes have been working.” He informed me with a wide grin, cupping my hands. “I have so much to tell you about what has been happening.” Talking for a good minute, the information on the ongoing events in my kingdom never ended. Everything seemed peaceful, alas this must be the calm before the storm. Something bad was coming, my gut feeling sensing it. Sudden nausea wracked my stomach, Emmie running to get a bucket. Clammy sweat drenched my skin, every ounce of food flying back up. Another bout of vomit burned its way up my throat, my skin paling beyond a ghost’s complexion. Laying back on the cold carpet, Emmie passed me a ginger cube. Swallowing it whole, the nausea died down a bit. Yawning groggily, sweet slumber swept me away.
