TURNING POINT
Suitcase in hand, I head for the station. To say I am nervous is an understatement. I walk inside the station and kept on receiving greetings, I am not rude but not really in the mood. I was ushered into the dark chambers by one of the policemen and kept looking around the room waiting for him to be brought. I need to recollect my mind before doing this. I hope I don't lose it. He walked in with a policeman and I must confess he looks messy.
‘The lights please,’ I told the policeman before facing Darvis who sat calmly opposite me.
‘I don’t have time so I’ll go straight to the point. Did you kill them?’ I asked maintaining eye contact with him.
He didn’t flinch but stared at me.
‘I didn’t,’ he said sternly.
'Damn it! All the proofs link you to the incident. Just tell me the truth,' I half yelled.
‘Ian to be frank with you, we have been buddies for a while now and I believed you trusted me but that is not the case. I loved and still love your sister, I can’t bring myself to harm her let alone her friends,’ he said calmly.
How can he be so calm yet am trying to find the truth?
I opened my briefcase and handed him some of the documents.
‘In there, there is your conversation between you and Ivy just two hours before three bodies of her friends were found in her house dead and she was nowhere to be found. There is also a DNA result that shows that the blood that was found in the kitchen matches mine and it’s my sisters. She also called me and said the two of you would be going out that evening on a date. The same evening all this happened. Where is my sister?’ I yelled and hit the table. I was already running out of patience.
I know I have failed as a brother and a detective. I have helped people unveiling the truth but I can’t do the same on my only sister, two weeks and I don’t know the truth. After this case, I guess I’ll just resign.
'I called your sister and informed her of my plans of taking her out. I wanted to propose to her. The time we were to go out, she texted and said her friends were coming over to her house and we should push the date one hour later. I was happy because I could have more time to prepare for a romantic site. I was in the car when I heard the news, I wouldn’t have done that,’ he said.
‘Damn it!’ I cursed and left the room.
I just feel frustrated.
I walked inside my house and slammed the door throwing my lazy self on the couch.
‘What’s up, did you find anything?’ Alex my housemate and friend asked.
‘He said he didn’t and I somehow believe him. I think he’s saying the truth,’ I said.
‘What are you planning to do?’ he asked and sat beside me.
‘I don’t know what to do nor think anymore. If she’s dead, where is her body? If she’s alive, where is she? Who attacked them and why?’ I asked no one in particular.
I just need answers, but no one asks the questions.
‘You need to have a rest, tomorrow is a new day we will think on what to do,’ Alex said.
I wasn't in the mood for dinner. I walked to the bathroom and allowed the cold water to calm my head. With all the things going through in my mind, it was heating up. I stayed there like forever but it wasn't helping. All through the night, I kept thinking of my next step but nothing was coming. All the Carson's I built in the air came down crumbling.
I walked out of the house and sat at the pool to get some air. I picked my phone and called the chief officer.
‘You can release him,’ I said and hanged up not waiting for a reply.
I walked to the kitchen and got myself a cup of coffee only to be interfered with by my ringing phone.
‘Hello,’
‘Yes,’
'Can I have a word with you? I was released this morning,' Davis said.
'Okay, where do you want to meet?' I asked.
‘Somewhere private,’ he said.
‘Come over to my house,’ I said and hanged up.
I went to my study room and went through all the things I had gathered for the past two weeks. A knock came to my door and I put the files in my drawer.
‘Come in,’ I said.
‘Thank you for getting me out of there,’ he said.
‘Why did you want to talk about?’ I asked a different thing.
‘You know I love your sister and am sorry about what happened. I think there is a possibility that Ivy is still alive,’ he said and I just stared at him.
‘Don’t record my words because I don’t think after am done you’ll want this information to go to the public. Do you know this girl?’ he handed me two photos.
One of the photos had me, Ivy and Diana. We were still young. The second photo was Ivy and a certain girl but they seem to be in an argument. It seems it was captured secretly.
‘Who is the girl?’ I asked pointing at the picture.
‘The same girl in the first,’ he said.
‘Diana is dead, she died one month after my mom’s death,’ I said.
'She didn't, she faked her death and unfortunately, your sister was behind it. The time Ivy said she was traveling to the United States she went to see your dad and Diana,' he said and I was forced to laugh.
‘Our dad abandoned us, why are you trying to frame Ivy I thought you love her?’
‘I love her and want to help her. The only thing I’m not sure about is how the three girls died. Tasha was one of the girls that died. We were doing an investigation with her. Ivy overheard her and she died the same day. Do you remember the day you got your mother lying lifeless? She had hit her head or maybe someone hit her from behind, the same thing that happened to those girls,’ it seems he has a point.
‘So where are Ivy and Diana?’ I asked.
‘Diana is arriving today and Ivy, I have a place in mind that I think of. I’m not sure though,’ he said.
‘Then we will go tonight with Diana. I will even go with you to get her from the airport. What if my dad, you said something about him?’ I asked.
‘Your dad is in the United States and he has a hand in your mother’s death,’ he said casually like it’s nothing.
If all this happens to be a lie then I won’t forgive him.
***
I’m still trying to comprehend what Diana said and the evidence is here to prove. I’m not even sure I can put my sister and dad in jail. We stopped the car at a far distance before walking to the deserted house. I wonder how someone can live in such a place. Diana went ahead as we watched her on my phone. She walked to the door and knocked for a while before the door was opened.
‘What are you doing here? I thought I told you not to show your face,’ Ivy yelled.
I have never known that my sister yells, she’s the most innocent and calm person I had ever met.
‘I…,’ Diana tried to talk but she interrupted her.
‘Don’t tell me you are planning to go against our plan,’ she yelled and pointed a gun.
It was evident that Diana was scared.
‘Let’s go and help her,’ I suggested but Darvis got hold of me.
‘Call for backup, I’ll go. We can’t afford to die at the same time,’ he said and left me there.
I don’t even know what to think as everything is confusing.
After calling the police, I walked to the house. The door was slightly open and it gave me easy access. She had both of them tired on the chairs and didn't realize my presence.
'So, this who you are?' I asked sarcastically as the gun fell from her hand.
'Release them, Ivy, now!' I ordered but she picked the gun and pointed at me.
'You won't try my patience because out there, there are police officers, and the conversation you have had has been recorded and sent to them. I just don't know why you had to turn to be a murderer,' I said calmly.
‘You can’t call the police on me, I’m your younger sister,’ she said and laughed.
‘The same sister that points a gun at me, I’m still doubting that. Why did you do it?’ I asked.
'They knew the truth and dad told me to do it. It just didn't go well and I had to run away,'
So the same man who had abandoned us had the guts to claim lives.
‘Did you kill mum?’
'I didn't, dad did. I gave him my spare key to help him have access to the house. Mum threatened to give him into the police. He is a drug dealer,'
‘Where is he?’
'He is currently in the country but will be traveling tomorrow night,' she said.
I just hope I don’t set my eyes on that man.
I sat in the house thinking of what will become of me. My sister and dad were sentenced to life imprisonment and I feel sorry for myself. It's just like I am alone in this world. I miss my mom and the former Ivy, the innocent girl who couldn't even kill a fly let alone people. I guess this is my new starting point, all alone without anyone to call family.

This is an interesting story! I think it would have been interesting to see this written using the 2nd Person POV like the prompt originally indicates, but I know it can be a challenge. I also was a little confused by the characters, such as who was murdered, who was a suspect, and how they were all linked together. I think if that had been explained a bit more I would better understand why this case is so important to the main character. Overall, it is a very good story! I do love a good murder mystery. Keep up the good work!
