As the minotaur picked me up by the throat a lot of thoughts went through my head like: Why did I go on this school trip? Why did my parents sign the permission form? If I die here none of my siblings are allowed in my room. Does this mean I didn’t graduate? Someone better clear my search history. I started writing my eulogy: Key Dorothy Jones eldest of three, die age seven-teen at the hand of a bull man. She left everything she owned to her pets Shell Lock Homes, Dog Quixote, and Chamomile Zorro. You may be asking how I got here, what is happening, who I am, and other things along those lines.
Well this is the situation: I am Key Jones pronounced K, oldest of six (a brother age fifteen named Jay pronounced J, a sister age thirteen named Bea pronounced B, another brother age eleven named Ken pronounced N, last brother age nine Fee pronounced F, and one more sister named Gen pronounced G) my parents are geniuses aren’t they. I am senior at Gray Wall High School, hobbies include reading and silently judging people. I have a photographic memory and hyperacusis. My favorite snack food: limes. My favorite colors: gray and brown. My greatest fear is being the center of attention. Why am I about to be turned into minotaur food, well everything started ten weeks ago:
My history class arrived in Rome, Georgia, for a field trip. We were to use the time to pick a topic for the semester-long group project and get to know our partners. I couldn’t work alone. I’ve never really understood people, everyone just seemed too complicated and I just never fit with anyone. When you hear and remember everything it is hard to get close to people: gossip, lies, leaving others behind. None of that seemed appealing to me. I prefer to do my own work. Anyways the five people I got stuck with is as follows:
- Jimmy Patters: the type of person who talks for no other reason besides just to make noise. A human garbage disposal, I once saw him eat an entire bag of five year old gummy worms. Favorite colors: Red and Yellow. Favorite snack food: Peppers. Most notable quote: “I bet I can cause mayhem with this.”
- Dave Patters: cousin to Jimmy, big and does not talk very much. He does sing I noticed that when on the bus to and from school. He is always found with Jimmy and the to balance each other out. Favorite colors: blue and black. Favorite food: Most notable quote: …
- May Kipper: horse loving country girl, she only wears flannel shirt; denim in skirts, short shorts, and jeans form; a pink cowboy hat; and the exact pair of riding boats with a butterfly patterns. She talks in a bad fake southern accent. Favorite colors: orange and pink. Favorite snack food: chocolate. Most notable quote: “Yippy kia, I got me a big ol’ cannon I’m gonna use it.”
- Al Vents: school basketball star, but has no chance of a collage scholarship, clear makings of a future high school has been working at a gas station. Big man on campus constantly trying to be the leader. Favorite colors: green and purple. Favorite snack food: potato chips. Most notable quote: “I will never eat slug slime again.
- Bill Reynolds: a computer nerd who is a scary cat. He reminds me if a stray puppy got turned into a teenaged boy. His best friend is Dave and by proxy Jimmy. Favorite color: White and cyan. Favorite snack food: tortilla chips. Most notable quote: “Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else!”
My group went to an old house to reach our topic. It is famous for same disappearances that happened there related to same cult activity that happened a few decades ago now it is a historical escape room. In one of the rooms we opened a trap door and each went through then fell into were we are now.
Turns out that cult was still working out of that house. We are in some sorta hidden world with magic and monsters. Together the six of us are trying to get to the top of a distant castle were there is a wishing stone which is the only way for all of to get home in one piece. Getting to this castle is no cake walk to begin with but an evil wizard wants us dead so he keeps sending dangerous monsters to do us in.
As I come back the moment the minotaur drops me as a sword pierces it’s back. The monster lets out an angry cry turning just in time to get an arrow in the eye from Bill. Al rashes in hitting the bull man in the right leg with his hammer bring it to its knees. Giving May enough time to tie the legs together and Dave time to put it in the head lock. I hop to my feet, ignoring the pain in my ankle, picking up my dropped dagger and stabbing it into the minotaur’s heart killing it. Everyone moves out of position.
“Key are you o-” Jimmy starts to ask taking his sword out of the monster back then stabbing it a few more times for good measure.
“I heard that one before,” I answer, sheathing my dagger and rolling my eyes.
“I will find a pun of your name that has not been used before, for that is my personal side quest,” Jimmy makes a pose with his sword raised in the air.
“Why are you like,” Al pinched his temple.
May wrapped up her rope and clipped it to her belt “Key are you alright, hon.”
“I’m alright.”
Bill slings his bow over his shoulder, “Is it just me or did that minotaur drop out of no where.”
“You’re right,” Al nods, “We normally get some kind of warning sign that a monster is nearby.”
“Whatever the reason we need to keep going get ahead of any other dangers coming our way,” I says starting to walk forward as everyone follows.
I am Key Jones age seventeen, a girl lost in another world with my classmates. We are all scared, but we will get home. This school trip will not be one way.
