Middle School Sad Adventure

Today had been the last day of 5th grade. Now I had to move on to middle school after 2 months of summer vacation. I would miss all of my teachers, and my friends. I wouldn't be going to the same middle school as most of my friends.

I wanted to keep some memories from my great times in elementary school, so I decided to make a time capsule. My classmate had been jealous that all my teachers had liked me, and no one had liked her because she used to make a lot of trouble.

In my time capsule, I decided to put in a homework assignment, a project, a picture of all my teachers, my gum (for the time when my teacher let us chew gum in class), a picture of the entire school, the picture of my class, the coffee mug my teacher gave me, and finally, last but not least, my graduation picture from yesterday!

I decided to dig up a spot next to the sign they gave me that I was graduating out of elementary in my backyard. This was a special moment for me, graduating from elementary to middle. It came once in a life time, and now it was over so quick.

As I buried the time capsule, I was thinking about all of the wonderful moments I had. My eyes started to tear up. I buried it deep, and covered it up.

After two hours, I couldn't stand it. All of my greatest possessions from school being buried in a old, rickety, and rusty iron "chest" two feet underground in my backyard that is full of dead leaves, and branches??? I think not.

I immediately rushed outside with my dad's strongest shovel, even though it was too big for me. I walked to the door to my backyard. I couldn't get myself to be so weak minded and dig it up, but I just couldn't stop myself. Turning around and looking back every two steps I headed out the door to the spot where I had put it.

I dug for almost 15 minutes, but I couldn't find it anywhere!!!! I thought maybe I had put it in a different spot, so I went and dug in another spot. I ended up digging the whole backyard, and my mom had just saw me do that and said, "While you are at it, why don't you just plant some seeds in their so that we'll have plants?" I was almost about to scream, but I let it go. She could humor me if she wanted, couldn't she?

I went back inside thoroughly depressed. I knew I had put it in the backyard, and now it was missing. Who in this entire world would want to take a rickety old chest from a little girl's backyard I thought. Then it hit me! Obviously!! Who else could it be, but Lindsay?? She had always wanted me to get in trouble so my teachers wouldn't like me.

I ran over to her house faster than I've ever run before! I reached her house just in time to see her digging in her backyard to put MY time capsule inside. I ran over to her front door, and rang the bell. Her mom, Mrs. Davis opened her door. I filled her in on all the details, and she was shocked.

We ran to their garden door, and found Lindsay patting the soil over there. She was about done! Her mom pulled her up, and had her dig open the mound, and show her what she had put in there. Lindsay pulled the rickety iron chest out and showed it to her mom. Her mom demanded to know what was inside of it, so Lindsay made up a story telling her that she wanted to put some of her stuff from elementary school in a time capsule!

Her mom made her open the time capsule, and the very first thing she found was MY MUG!! Mrs. Davis got really mad at Lindsay, not only for stealing my time capsule, but lying to her. She returned my chest and apologized for Lindsay's actions. I thanked her and left. I presume Lindsay got grounded for 2 weeks for that incident. I was just happy to have my time capsule back.

I went back home and dug it up behind the old tree in my yard. None of my friends or neighbors really liked that tree, so I decided to put it there for safe keeping. At last my precious memories were safe again. What an adventure!!

I didn't know how middle school was going to be, but I hoped I would make new friends, and have the same amount of fun. Middle school would last exactly half the time elementary school had lasted, so I'd have to make friends faster, and have more fun in a shorter amount of time. That seemed like a huge challenge, but I knew I could do it.

I hoped I'd have good teachers and friends in middle school. I was thinking about how I was going to survive in middle school, when my doorbell rang. It was my teacher!! I was so happy to see Mr. Torres, I hugged him really tight. I invited him inside, and called my mom. He had brought "Good luck in middle school" cookies for me. He was the best teacher I had in elementary, and I wished I'd get teachers like him in middle.

We talked for a long time, and then he had to leave. I was sad, but I could always drop by his classroom on the way back home from school couldn't I? I wouldn't have to forget him. I would just have to see him a little less than I was used to.

When we were talking, he had said that if I needed any help with homework or projects, or if I just wanted to see him, I could drop in and talk to him. He would be like my tutor. He had students who had graduated, and were now going to the same middle school as I would be going to in a few months. I could talk to them if I needed anything.

I wondered if I would have more things to add to my time capsule when middle school was over. I'd love to see what I had liked back in elementary and middle when I got to college. I'd think of myself as silly and baby-ish, wouldn't I?
