Dainty’s visible aura was tinted mint green. Her large eyes would feign innocence except they were almost squinting, giving her plotting mind away. Her full lips and turned up nose made her appear trustworthy except for the scrunch in her nose like she always sniffing around, except for her curved sneaky smile. Her pink paper thin wings, almost translucent, are how she got her name. With an elegant and mesmerizing twist of her hand her aura would extend and forest green sparks quietly and softly popped from her fingers. A telling sign that chaos would shortly begin.
Dainty’s fun began when she was just a young fairy. Doting eyes whenever people met her- it all just felt too easy not to take advantage of. A quick pickpocket here, a whisper of a false rumor spreading doubt there, planting a banana slip everywhere. Her mind was constantly whirring with ideas on how to slightly inconvenience people.
Although Dainty thought herself quite agile and unnoticeable, there was a specific group of people, and only they, who could recognize the antics and that a magical creature was behind them: young orphan runaways. Before Dainty, these young orphan runaways, everywhere they went, they were reminded of what they had lost: loving families, structure, hope for the future. In turning their attention to Dainty they were able to cope with their circumstances and recognize that the alternative doesn’t have to be so dreadful, it can bring: playful solitude, freedom, fulfillment.
With their devotion Dainty’s stature and potency grew. Fueled by their reverence, the nuisance fairy graduated to a worthy demi-goddess. Dainty’s worshippers were so niche and invisible from the rest of society’s eyes that no one even noticed her sudden promotion in power until it was too late. Where Dainty’s worst casualties used to include planting lipstick on a husband’s collar for a wife to find, she could now move nations with the smallest misunderstanding. Her old abilities included a quick change in perception that would allow her a moment to take advantage of, like dizziness or increased vulnerability on the unsuspecting party. Now, Daisy can turn invisible, slightly alter the immediate scene to her liking, and create distractions if needed. If anyone saw her for the first time in her new power they would be in awe of how her wingspan appeared to take up any space she was in; now a deep pink the wings looked heavy, each flutter unleashing an immense gust of wind. Observers would wonder how she ever got her name in the first place. Dainty grappled with her new appearance, upset that she could no longer sneak away from any situation and was immediately noticeable in any room she walked in- Dainty made sure invisibility was the first new ability she mastered.
Dainty made sure to thank the young boys who allowed her this newfound influence, she would visit them whenever they made her offers on their self-made crumbling little shrine. She would sit with her legs crossed on the top of the shrine, or standing on her toes on the shrine, but she never got down face to face with the worshipers. It was important to Dainty that her worshipers maintained a relationship to her, and she would sometimes play jokes on nearby passerby to put a smile on their face. Dainty bowed at the end of each visit and flew away, recognizing that these children would forever love her and she would never have to lose her stature ever again.
With a rapid increase in abilities, Dainty set out to cause mayhem. One advisor feeling like the king is about to exile his family? Easy coup. A war started by a rumor that another nation’s warships were circling too close? Piece of cake. Dainty didn’t wish for any specific outcome, had no ulterior motive. The immediate sense of excitement she felt whenever her plans were realized, that was what she lived for.
Finally, some gods began to take notice. Who is causing all the issues on Earth? Who is creating this unknown atmosphere? Why does it all feel so random? Visiting a small kingdom one day, the god of ambition, through sheer luck, spotted a blurred fluttering of pink wings, and a green spark appear near the ear of a palace cook. Closely following the moving blurred area of vision, it was only outside the palace that Dainty revealed herself. Not having noticed the god of ambition, Dainty giggled at her latest trick and stretched. He quickly realized she would be his ticket out of low value bargains with small kingdoms such as this one.
“Ahem.”
Dainty was so shocked she turned invisible again.
“It’s okay, I’m a friend.”
Dainty unveiled herself again. “I have no friends.”
“Well, why not? I could be your first.” The god of ambition smiled.
Dainty knew a trickster when she saw one. “Perhaps.”
“Perhaps we can begin with you telling me a little bit about yourself.”
Dainty ignored him and flew up close to the god. “You look important.”
“You look like you don’t care that I’m important.”
Dainty paused. “In a way, I do.”
“Can I ask what you did to that cook back there?”
Dainty’s pale cheeks turn red. She lied, “I’m trying to develop intel so I can take down the king.” She had really whispered to the cook that all the royals hated his cooking and they wanted more spicy food, although she knew they hated spicy food- just because she’s more powerful doesn’t mean small pranks are beneath her.
“Ah, you’re quite ambitious, I see. I can help, you know.”
“How so?”
The god of ambition fed Dainty some lies and stories and at the end of it all he convinced her to go to heaven and cause the gods to turn on each other. Dainty agreed and laughed and smiled.
The god of ambition provided Dainty with a map to heaven’s doors. At the entrance Dainty turned invisible. She never planned on going along with the god of ambition’s plan, but using him to get into heaven? As easy as throwing a kingdom into disarray. Dainty made sure to bless her followers before twirling and leaving.
