Romance Drama Fantasy

How was Elaria expected to explain to her sister's steady long term boyfriend about his girlfriend's mysterious and sudden illness? ' Her time of the month' didn't quite cover it and they were close enough that he could tell it wasn't just the common cold or a fleeting stomach bug. After her insistence that he take her back to her family home instead of a hospital he thankfully obliged...if somewhat reluctantly. Seated in the Gazebo overlooking their expansive country estate, Elaria nervously wound her ebony hair tightly around her finger as she studied her sister's only serious romance in as long as she could remember.

For Susanna to be this dedicated to someone...enough that she trusted him to meet her family meant that this man could very well be the one...or her sister was sick enough that she was delirious, either option could be as legitimate as the other at this point. This was a finicky time of year for her older sister, the Autumn Equinox always was considering her dominant season...yet now that he had come of maturing age, at least in their realm the young woman was finally feeling the true affects of being away from their homeland.

It was something that Elaria could look forward to 20 years from now...when she would appear to still be in her mid twenties despite having lived nearly 4 times an average human lifespan. It was one of the curses of the Fae, or a blessing...depending how you viewed it. For Susanna to have actually grown attached to this man and be willing to answer the difficult questions that always came up whenever humans knew them for a certain period of time...it was a definite indicator that this man...this human was Susanna's soulmate, or at least a part of her soul family.

It wasn't that it was unheard of for a human to be apart of a Fae's soul family, yet the two races interacted so rarely that it wasn't a largely researched topic. With the current war and political situation in Fayre at the moment, the human world was where many of the Fae had fled to until the ruling courts settled their disputes. Of course, being apart from their homeland was painful for them all...especially when their magic...their lifeforce called for the energy of their planet, just like Susanna's was doing now.

The young man next to her was staring across the rolling emerald plains of her family's rural estate as he clutched the strong cup of herbal tea in his hands. Switching to her higher frequency vision, Elaria studied his aura and energy fields closely...a useful way of determining people's feelings and energy without actually having to interact with them. The bold colours emitting from him proved that he was healthy and strong, a vibrant soul yet he was definetly confused and worried...the slighest smudge of a dark grey, almost black indicated that he was also slightly angry at something...probably Susanna from obviously keeping something from him or perhaps it was because her own Mother had basically been treating him like the plague ever since he had arrived with her sister a mere hour beforehand, hence why Elaria had grabbed some afternoon tea and retired with him to the garden.

" You need to tell me what is honestly going on Elaria. I know you do not know me very well, but I know a lot about you, Susanna frequently talks about you and I know you two are very close...even for sisters, so please be honest with me. You know I love her, that much is obvious...I also know she has kept many things from me and I just assumed that as our relationship developed that she'd open up more...and she has. Yet she has divulged the bare minimum about her family and her childhood and how she came to live in country Queensland...I can't even pinpoint your accents. "

He sighed at this as he stared down at the dark contents of his cup, as if willing the answers to show themselves within the liquid.

"I know I love her...I know she loves me yet I can feel a sense of trepidation, an uneasiness within her as if some subconcious part of her is repelled by me...or the world, I don't know. I feel it especially strongly here, especially from your Mother...as if I am not welcome on some molecular level rather than a physical one. As if...It's like we are from two different worlds that weren't ever meant to meet yet by some quirky twist of fate have."

Elaria fought hard to keep her features neutral at this statement as surprise bubbled up within her. It wasn't impossible for a human to be in touch with the more subtle universal energies, but it was certainly rare. To find a human that had these empathetic abilities...perhaps it was possible for this human to be apart of her sister's soul family, especially if he was a gifted human...an empath as they were sometimes known.

It wasn't her place to tell him about the true nature of his gorlfiend, it wasn't her place to share as to why Susanna was sick. She would recover within a few days as the equinox ended and the energetic pull on her very being from Fayre lessened. However Fae could not spend time on Earth indefinetly and eventually they would all have to go back to their homeland, hopefully the war between the Kingdoms would have ended by that time.

In the meantime though, how was her sister to be happy when she shouldn't take her true love back home with her yet she couldn't stay here forever without dying?...something almost impossible for a Fae. Audibly sighing Elaria simply took a handful of strawberries she had gathered from the garden that morning and turned her head to the side, looking at the human until he looked at her expectantly.

" What are you thinking Elaria?"

He questioned, his sandy blond eyebrows furrying in confusion as he looked back to his tea once again.

" All I can say is welcome to the family kiddo!"

Elaria chuckled out as she sipped at her drink, wishing that it was cider instead of the weak tea she was consuming.

" Ahaha Kiddo, I'm your sisters age...8 years older than you, so you're the kiddo in this situation mate."

Glad she actually got him to laugh, Elaria relaxed a little as she observed his aura gradually shift towards more brighter, happier colours. If only he knew how wrong he was...let's just say when he realised the scope of Fae lifetimes, he would realise he was the kiddo.
