Aliez was walking outside of town. She had just gone in to show off what she was able to do with baking. She held an apple in her hand with many bites. She threw it over to a nearby deer that stared at it for a short bit, then ate the tiny apple core. She was lost in her thoughts, trying to figure out how she could improve herself. then she brought her mind back to reality and began to look around her forest.
she looked around for the bioluminescent mushrooms that grew in that part of her forest. the green shrooms glowed, guiding her towards her home. the path to her home was lined with the green mushrooms that loved to grow on the nearby wood and it was plenty dark where they grew. she had been trying her best to change the chemical composition of the mushrooms so they would glow blue, but with no such luck. she loved the glow of the bioluminescent worms in the cave, so she wanted the mushrooms to do the same pretty glow. she had found a way to collect the very chemical to cause such a glow but had failed to put it back.
however, the mushrooms were not the only thing on her mind. she was also interested in baking some cookies to get to talk to the local baker about their glowing pastries. such a shine could be found nowhere else in all of their lands. not even the princess and her loyal knights could find such a glow on other pastries, and that was saying a lot. the princess wanted to find the most interesting things that her father's land could behold. she never dared to leave his lands as there was nothing of interest outside her father's walls. that meant of all the pastries she could find, their local pastry baker made things that glowed in her favor. so if Aliez was able to talk to their local baker, they could learn more about the glow of many different things. including their pastries
alas, such a thing would never come to them if they never learned to bake themselves. they had tried mixing the glowing green mushrooms with different pastries, but they never came outright. the texture was wrong, or it wasn't glowing enough. tasted all funky, or just didn't bake. then they tried something new. removing the chemical from the glowing mushrooms that made them glow in the first place. when it was removed all on its own, it was white. Aliez found it difficult in making in turn different colors. she halfway gave up. but not to the point where they would stop.
they sent a letter to the local baker asking when a good time would be to exchange cookies if they so desired. Aliez had made some great cookies while trying to fix or even alter their failed glowing pastries. that's why she went to town. to see if other people would like them too. and they did. a day later, the male lady came over to deliver the baker's answer. they said yes, and they would be bringing their chocolate peanut cookies to trade. they would meet tomorrow
yes! thought Aliez. she would get to trade with an amazing baker, AND get some help on using the glowing chemical from the bioluminescent mushrooms. the next day came and they both met at Aliez's home. Aliez had made some interesting cookies, dark chocolate cookies with raspberry jam inside, and the baker had brought their chocolate peanut cookies.
"you are Aliez correct? I am Fisher. Allen Fisher, but most people in the town just call me the baker." he brought out his hand to shake it with Aliez "most people normally will talk to me over a phonograph, but you asked to meet in person."
"y, yes." Aliez nodded and shook Allen's hand
"are those your cookies? may I try a bite as you seem to be gaining popularity with your unique concoctions."
"of course! this is a cookie exchange, am I corrected?"
"no you are not." he grabbed a cookie and Aliez grabbed one of his. "my, these are quite extraordinary. who would've known such a bitter flavor like dark chocolate would go so well with the richness of raspberries?"
"I have a lot of spare time, and money" Aliez acted like this was strange.
"I wouldn't have even thought of the combo. hmm? what is that over there?" Allen pointed to some white glowing slices of cake
"My failed attempts to copy your glowing pastries with the glowing mushrooms nearby." Aliez looked downward "I can't make them turn any other colors other than white."
"do you need help with that? I know how to make glowing pastries from luciferin brought over from other places in our king's land, but I've never had the mushrooms that make the stuff on hand. I know how to combine different chemicals, safe ones, of course, to make it glow different colors."
"that, that would be great!" Aliez was not expecting the baker to notice her glowing failures. she was just going to mention it.
"Since it appears you can make the chemical on your own, would you mind it if I get my luciferin from you? the other location is on the far end of our king's land and it takes quite a while to get over here. and my if it's not costly then the princess hasn't tried eating painted eggs!"
"she's done that?"
"yep. it was several years ago, but boy was it funny. good thing the paint was edible."
She agreed to Allen's idea of getting his luciferin from her. while he got her luciferin, he taught her how to use different chemicals to make different colors. the only color they failed to get was anything dark, but that was alright. She began to put together a good pastry using the purple chemical combo. When she was done, some purple cookies were there, waiting for someone to eat them.
