After spending the entirety of eight years in another city just so you can escape your past, you tell yourself its all worth it because now you are a renowned psychologist and you would not have made it this far if you'd stayed and faced your demons. So suitcase in hand, you head to the station and book a ticket for "home" if it could be called that.
Sitting beside an old woman that seem to be flirting with you,you ignore her the entire journey and plug in your headphones for added measure. Even though it pains you to admit, going home is dredging up memories you thought you buried yet you can't refuse for the life of eleven kids are at stake. Sighing heavily, you try not to think of the reason you left but still find yourself thinking about your past life.
Martin! you hear your mother call and rushed to answer her.
'I'm going out,mom is going to be on TV today so make sure you watch, also stay in your room and don't come out no matter what.
She leans in to kiss you and you nod meekly because you understand what she meant. Even at this little age, you're bedazzled by your mothers beauty.
'Is daddy coming with you? You ask,
No darling,he'll be there to pick me up though.
'OK mum, love you'. To which she replied with another kiss, this time a loud one.
In your room, door firmly locked, you watch your mum on TV with an interviewer who seem to really like her.
So,Mrs Finn what say you to women that want to be like you.'
'Thanks but I really feel no one should want to be like anyone else. You should only strive to be the best version of yourself. This I would tell you though,"you can have it all". A great career, beautiful kid and a husband that's both your lover and your bestfriend.
But don't you think its pure luck that you have a husband that's a pastor and still puts you first?'
'Nonsense! Its the case of a high value woman meeting a high value man and falling in love. The rest as they say is history.
"You all heard it. Thanks for coming on today's show Mrs Finn.
You switch the TV off as the show was brought to an end and await the return of your parents.
You watch from the hallway as your father hits your mother. You won't interfere as it always makes matters worse for your mother. You feel disgust as he expertly avoids hitting her face which was the only place she wouldn't cover with clothes. This Time, it was worse. He'd come home with his corrupt officer friend who'd won a bet with him and the price was a night with your mother.
Beaten and submissive, your mother makes no move to stop him as he made to rape her. You are blinded by fury and enter the room quietly and pick up the officers gun which he'd quickly discarded in the process of taking his clothes off. You immediately shoot him from your vantage point at his back. You watch in horror as he drops dead. At this time your father grabs your mother and in blind rage, you shoot him but you watch in horror as your mother instead of your father drops and as your father runs toward the door you hear another gunshot. In your panic, you'd shot him at the back of his head. You stare in horror at what you'd done and with no other option, fled and never looked back.Even changing your name.
Fast forward to today, you tell yourself you'd dealt with it. You're a psychologist after all and you're a smart one at that. You'd finish this case and get the hell out of the country this time and while you're at it,you'd help your wife solve the murder case of her father. You are glad she even asked for your help. According to her,her father had been a very good father. Such fathers didn't deserve to die.
Three months later you'd solved the case of the eleven children alongside your wife who's a cop and you've sunk to the lowest form of depression. You'd found out that your wife's father is none other than the cop you murdered eight years ago.
I'll tell her tonight and surrender myself'. You say,
The door to your study is flung open and in came about twelve heavily armed cops led by your wife. Alas! She found out.
'He was not a good man'. You blurt
"You killed my father and your father alongside your mother and it makes you a good man?she said with tears in her eyes.
You're hurt and surrender with tears in your eyes and a heavy heart.
Two months later you're sitting in your cell.you've been told you have a visitor but you're reluctant to stand. The poison you'd taken was taking its toll. It was supposed to kill you slowly.
Hello" you said to the woman who now sat across you.
She's a stranger, yet oddly enough, she seems really familiar. Those eyes, where had he seen them.
"Martin", she said with tears in her eyes.
"Mmummm"?
"MMother". It is you'.
"I saw it all over the news,my son" age had slowed her down but looking at her beautiful features you wonder how you didn't recognise her immediately.
You both sob softly, you for a mother you thought dead and she for a son she thought lost forever. She begins to explain how only she survived as the bullet had been to her arm but she'd lost consciousness from the shock.
You start to feel drowsy and it feels like your abdomen would burst. In these last moments, you think of a life that would've been worth living.
"I would fight for you, you'd get out of here"
She keeps going on and on about how she has proof to free you.
How it wasn't your fault and thus it took a while for her to realize you'd gone. When she does her loud wails are limitless

Now that is a page turner. Really great story, and well thought out. I did find at times I was confused as to who was speaking, but after I re-read and figured it out, the story flowed again. Lots of emotions in this story. And lots of twists. I love it!
