Derek wasn’t supposed to do it, but he told his sister Sandra about the aliens’ plans he was talking about with his Dungeons & Dragons friends. He told her about their theory that the President was being programmed by humans and aliens in a secret hideaway in Colorado.

He said, “It’s like he’s a puppet who doesn’t know what he’s saying or doing. If what we researched is true, then his staff, or a previous president, perhaps using Artificial Intelligence, is running the country.”

Sandra decided to go along with her teenaged brother who was sitting next to her on the porch steps, and slowly asked, “And who would be architecting the AI programs? In other words, who is the real boss of our country and ultimately the world now? If it’s his staff, I’ll bet they don’t have the experience to understand politics at that level. If it’s a former leader of the U.S., then shame on them. They know better than to usurp that position.”

Derek asked, “And here’s another question. Why are they doing it? It’s so crazy. I don’t know what to think. Our country today is being run as if we are living in a previous era. It’s almost as if someone time travelled from the past into the future, and convinced politicians today that they have ‘progressive’ ideas, which aren’t any different than the ideas that were put forth decades ago.”

Sandra looked confused as Derek continued, “Well, you and I know that time travel is real, but no one ever talks about how it works.”

Sandra looked at Derek’s face to see if he was serious. I do? When did I say I thought time travel is real?

Derek saw the look on her face and tried to explain. “Think about it. If someone did go back in time, then it must mean they used to belong to a leadership regime from years ago, and they are trying to take us back to that era.”

Sandra decided to go along with him and asked, “Do you mean a time traveler from another era oversees today’s society? Someone who wanted to rule the world back then? Like someone who was in power sixty years ago?”

Derek answered, “Yes. That’s what my friends and I are thinking. Not necessarily a time traveler from back then, but someone today who would like to go back in time because they liked the way the world worked back then. In other words, they want it to operate that way now.”

Sandra stared at Derek as he continued, “By the way, many of my friends think of time as a spiral. Especially those of us who play D&D or other games online. There are interesting game concepts that are wild when you get into them. I’m glad I started playing those mind-expanding games. They help me think outside the box.”

“Of course they do – a very big box,” said Sandra, looking askance at her little brother. Geez, how looney can he and his friends get?

Unfortunately, her remarks didn’t stop Derek with his time travel train of thought. He said, “Think of a spiral of time looking like a corkscrew or a slinky. If time is a spiral and not a straight line, maybe someone could get juiced and blow past a stopping point in the spiral. Or maybe they would stay in place instead of pushing forward or falling backward, or maybe they would skip a specific time in the spiral just for the hell of it and move too far up or down to a different point in time. By the way, some scientists say it is a curve in the universe such as the Einstein/Rosen warp theory.”

He paused, looked seriously at his big sister sitting in front of him, and said, “Or maybe they would go back in history to relive the good old days.”

Derek looked at Sandra to see if she was still listening, which she was, but just barely. “What do you think?”

“Sure,” said Sandra, rolling her eyes. “Or maybe there could be a miscalculation in their portal algorithm, like a Stargate going wonky.”

Derek was caught off guard. Maybe she’s not so dumb after all.

Derek replied, “Or maybe someone went through a badly calibrated portal and ended up sixty years ago instead of some number of years ahead and it was all an accident. Maybe they don’t realize what year it is now, or how much progress has been made in the past sixty years. This whole discussion is crazy.”

Sandra teased, “Yes. But just so you know, I already heard from your high school friends that the Spiral of Time is how Greys and Reptilians move around to different places in space. It’s how they can step through a portal into a spaceship, for instance. They know how to navigate to pre-defined points in the spiral. That explains movement through space, but I expect controlling the time thing is more complicated than we think. Oh, well.”

Sandra looked at her little brother to see if he took the bait. Then she continued with a different thought, “Maybe all this chaos is happening because some aliens want to take over the earth for themselves by making it uninhabitable for us humans. Or maybe they need something we have here. A natural resource like gold or sand or something.”

Derek stared at her and replied, “Or, perhaps a Grey alien caused today’s mess on Earth by jumping downward in time and space instead of moving upward along the Spiral of Time.”

He stopped talking and shrugged his shoulders. Now I’m getting confused, and I think Sandra is teasing me.

Derek decided to continue talking anyway. “The big question is what to do about it. We need to know who’s running this shit show which seems to be replicating what has already happened in the past, more than sixty years ago. It’s insane what’s going on around us right now.”

Sandra didn’t hesitate to help him get more confused. “That’s easy. Who had the most power, and was in charge of the U.S., and therefore the world, sixty years ago?”

Derek paused and considered the history of the last sixty years, at least in the U.S. and knew the answer. He then replied, “The why is also easy. We all need to have a purpose in life, and ruling the U.S. and the world was the point of everything that occurred back then, and it could be the whole point now.”

Sandra looked serious and teased her brother again. “Just remember, when talking to the FBI next week, we need to be careful to tell them what we can prove, not what we know or think we know.”

Derek smiled with satisfaction and thought he had been very clever in imparting his wisdom to his big sister. “Yes, we need to be informative and act calm, so we don’t seem to be overwhelmed by all this craziness. Which obviously, we are – overwhelmed, that is.”

Sandra nodded. “Yes, we are. I am overwhelmed with the subject, and you are crazy.”

Derek suddenly looked at his sister. “Wait! What? The FBI?”
