Thriller Mystery Suspense

You sigh as you get out of your car. What an exhausting day it's been. Your boss nags you all day about missing reports, and your unpaid bills float in the back of your mind. It was like life was giving you a big slap of reality in the face.

Trying to get these thoughts out of you head you decide to go get the mail. You drop your briefcase inside your not so clean house, and head down the driveway towards the end of the street. As you pick up the pace you realize you didn't change our of your work clothes. Great, you thought, now the whole street will think I'm a show off. You worked a pretty high profile job abut never talked about it because the people in your neighborhood were quite the nosy snobs. You take off your tight suit jacket and smooth out your black pencil skirt. That's normal right? To wear a button down and skirt to go get your mail. You glance across the street at your neighbor's house. The For Sale sign had a huge SOLD sticker on it, and you could see the new modern patio chairs, signalling that the old couple who used to occupy the house was long gone. You never talked to the old couple; you weren't really a people person. At least now your new neighbors know you mean business.

You had almost reached the mailbox so you grabbed the key from your back pocket. When you open the little door to #233 all you see are a stack of envelopes. You sigh heavily. Probably more bills. You shuffle through them, electricity, hydro, medical. You were about to throw them back into the little box when you see something at the back of the mailbox. A little blue envelope with something bumpy inside. You take it out and shove the rest of your mail back in. The envelope was small and had a name on the front. "Flynn O'Rielly". You've never heard that name before but it sounded quite familiar. You flip the envelope over to see that there was no return address. You were anxious to see what was inside so you lock up the mailbox and head home.

As you walk home you try to envision what could be inside, and where you've heard the name Flynn O'Rielly before. The suspense was killing you but you managed to make it halfway down the street before tearing the envelope open. When its opened you immediately see the black stone sitting at the bottom of the envelope. You pull it out, realizing its a necklace. What? The only other thing inside the little blue envelope was a small piece of paper. It read: Kill him. At this point you were starting to think this was some creepy joke so you pick up the pace and get home.

*****

The whole night you couldn't stop thinking about the creepy message. Who would be stupid enough to send something like that? You had no friends, and your family was distant. You had one ex and he was long gone. Who would do this?

When you get into bed that night you grab the stone from your dresser and study it under a booklight. It was a deep blue, almost black. It looked to be tourmaline of some sort. Whatever, you thought, It's probably nothing. You put the necklace on the dresser beside you and close your eyes.

*****

He leaned over you with a sinister smile on his face. "I told you what would happen if you messed with me," he said. You could feel his warm breath on your cheeks. He had you pinned down on your bed, with one hand around your throat, and the other holding a sharp knife. You squirm a bit and his grip becomes tighter. He lowers his face near yours and glares at you with his cold blue eyes. That's what got you in the first place, those eyes. They lured you in. He looked so nice at first, soft brown hair, a nice smile. Why were you so naïve? Maybe you deserved this. You cheated on him. His hand slowly moved closer, and closer to your face. You closed your eyes, knowing this was the end.

*****

Your jolt awake, sweating. What the hell was that? You look around, realizing it was only a dream. You slowly sink back down into your bed trying to calm yourself. You never end up falling back asleep.

*****

The next morning you slowly pull yourself out of bed, trying to forget the night's events. You head downstairs to grab some coffee and toast when you catch the time. 8:30. You were late. You run upstairs half spilling your coffee and hazily throw on a blazer and the pencil skirt from the day before. You look around making sure you didn't forget anything and the necklace catches your eyes. It was glowing even though there was no light in you room. You turn around and forget about it, and focus on getting to work.

A Few Days Later:

After countless nights with no sleep, you decide you need some medical attention. The nightmares were getting so bad you weren't getting even an hour of sleep without them. You took a day off so you could hopefully get something to help.

Since you had nowhere to be that morning you make yourself some coffee and grab the newspaper. It was a nice day so you sit on the porch and sip your coffee. The newspaper headlines weren't all that interesting so flip through until you find something worthy to read. 25 Year Old Girl Found in Woods. You read through it and decided the negativity was too much. You didn't want too think about death. Although life was pretty bland for you at the moment you still wanted to live. Dying young wasn't very appealing, and you were only 24 so you didn't want to think about that now.

You hear a car door slam and look up. It was the new neighbors. I guess they're only home in the day. That's probably why you haven't gotten to see them yet. You see a tall man get out of the red station wagon. You can't see his face but you notice his muscly frame and light brown hair. You smile to yourself hoping he was good looking. When he walks out from behind the car he sees you and smiles. He looks familiar. You get up and walk towards him to say hi and make awkward eye contact. You were about to look away when you notice his piercing blue eyes. Suddenly you remember where you've seen him.

"Hey there neighbor! I'm Flynn."
