Title: The Best Thanksgiving Ever

Author: Haripriya

Authors Note: Hello everyone! I wish you all a happy Monday! I am actually really proud of this story because this was more geared towards my writing style. Though it took me some time to figure out how I was going to write it and the outline of this story, I did it! I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!

I was so excited for my family. Finally, it was going to be our first Thanksgiving together, with a dad, after so long. Though now he is my stepdad, I love him very much. I even know him longer than I knew my real dad, who passed away two months after I was born. It's almost been one entire year since my mom remarried who is now my stepdad, though now I call him just 'dad'.Β

This Thanksgiving was going to be amazing... I could just feel it in the air, and somehow, I am so excited and joyful for my mom. Well, let's just say that our family even grew. From only me being the child to one more child in the family, my little brother who is now seven, almost eight. I also love him very much (though sometimes he makes me so mad that I just feel like yelling in the bathroom for forty-five minutes) because he is the kind of kid who makes you laugh, and feel silly about yourself.

I could just imagine everyone's smiling faces. My entire family coming together like a solved puzzle. Before, half of the puzzle pieces had gone missing. But now it was all finally going to come together, to become one. I finally had a clear picture in my head. All four of us, sitting at the round table, looking excited.Β

I could picture my little brother Ron doing something outlandish, or crazy. Like tipping the water, or facing the fork and the knife to his cheeks. Maybe even playing with his food. I could imagine myΒ dadΒ yelling at him, and laughing at the same time. Trying to make him stop stuffing utensils on his face. I could see me and mom, looking at each other, and couldn't help but at the chaos. Then we would roll our eyes, and helpΒ dadΒ stop Ron from doing something else.

I knew that everything was going to be picture-perfect, at least, it has to... doesn't it?

Actually, my mom never wanted to remarry, since he thought that I might not like it and get along with a new father. But I persisted and begged her to remarry. I only wanted my mom to be happy, and besides, she has good taste,Β reallyΒ good taste. She'll know if I will like him or not. Luckily, I do like him very much, but still, sometimes miss my real father.Β

I don't remember him very much, but a slight little memory of his burnt sienna colored necktie, and his neatly combed hair. I even remember his dark glasses, almost falling off his ears. He would always say goodbye to me, before going to work. I remembered his glasses used to always fall on my cradle. One time it fell on my head. Mom gotΒ reallyΒ angry at dad because she was worried that he injured me, but I laughed really hard. Maybe evenΒ tooΒ hard for a three-week-old baby.Β

Sometimes to cheer me up, mom always used to bring up this and it works like magic every time. But I don't really remember how he looked like. Though when I try to think really hard, I remember a glimpse of his potato colored skin and his small mustache. But I don't remember anything else about him. Mom on the other hand always tells me about his corny jokes, and how he tried to make me laugh so many times, but instead, I ended up crying. She used to tell me all the new toys he had bought me before I was even born! I guess he was just so excited to have a daughter.Β

Whenever I inquired more about my father, my mom would share something about him. In fact, we even made this a real activity! Daily dad facts, we call it. How it works is basically every morning, when my mom wakes me up, she shares one fact about dad. She has been doing it for about three years now, meaning she had that much to share about him. After hearing something about him, I would instantly wake up and do my morning routine and go to school. It was kind of like my alarm, except less noisy and annoying.Β

After hearing all these things about him, I got a pretty good idea of how he might have looked like, how he used to talk to others, and what his personality might have been like. It's like when you're reading books and they describe the characters with so much detail that you already make an image of how you think he/she looks like. Kind of that same story, but with my father. The only disappointment is when that same book gets turned into a movie, and the main character looks so much different than what you imagined he/she to look like.Β

Coming back to the present right now my mom was getting all the food ready and prepared for us to eat while dad is still outside getting some of the desserts and other spices. Obviously, Ron is making mischief like usual, in fact, he is running around the house looking for one of his missing collectibles. Honestly, I thought he already had too many action figures around the house. Also, even if he asks me to help him look for his action figures, I have got much better ways to spend my half-hour.Β

πŸŸ‘πŸŸ‘πŸŸ‘

FINALLY!!! It was time for our official Thanksgiving with my stepdad orΒ dadΒ and my stepbrother or justΒ brother. I am so excited, and not just because I get to each so much delicious food, but because I was with my family. Just as I had imagined it would always be. My mother on the far end, and my new father on the other end, Ron playing with the utensils, and me, just laughing at everything he does. This was going to be the best Thanksgiving me and my mom have ever celebrated, and I just knew my mom felt the same way.Β

Great story! The relationship between the main character and her family is super well drawn and totally pulls the reader into the heart of the story:) I only caught one mistake that makes the story slightly confusing at one point. When you write "Actually, my mom never wanted to remarry, since he thought that I might not like it and get along with a new father," I'm pretty sure you meant 'she', not 'he', especially as that pronoun is used later on in the paragraph. But other than that tiny thing, this story was flawless!! Keep on writing:)

Oh, yeah, I did mean to write pronoun 'she', not 'he'. I'm sorry!! πŸ˜… Also, thank you for your kind words, it really means a lot to me.
