On the one hand School Reunion comprises of two words and each independently could mean something large, massive, extensive, intensive and what not. On the other hand when both of them are used, applied together, gets limited, to a great extent, to a considerable measure, to a large proportion.
Firstly if we talk about School, it in most cases refers to the place where children enroll themselves to begin their education at a very young age, grow and mature in a systematic and gradual manner both physically and mentally. The duration of stay in a particular school is a vital aspect which gives some meaning to reunion. Otherwise, it does not qualify to be a school reunion.
The bonding, the incidents, the changes in terms of the teaching faculty, administration building, extension of facilities over the years and the functions associated with its completion, open days, celebrations of local events, national events, parades, assemblies, speeches, tournaments, uniforms, allocation to different houses with distinctive colors to identify the children to their groups, excursions and other educational trips etc., experienced together by the students for many years will only justify a School Reunion.
Some students would like to attend the School Reunion to be able to meet the classmates and not very keen on meeting others in the School or in other words it would not be a School Reunion but rather a Class Reunion within a School Reunion. They may probably not be interested to meet anybody other than their classmates whether they are seniors, juniors, teachers, administration staff or headmaster or headmistress, Principal or Vice principal.
There will be students who would want to show their organization skill and use the School Reunion as a platform to advertise themselves to the School faculty members as well as the classmates, their parents and others.
The students who have very few years in their school due to frequent transfer of their parents may not find it an interesting proposition to attend a School Reunion function with certain exceptions when the student’s mother of father or any relative is in the faculty of the School or in the board of directors of the school foundation.
There will be another lot of students who would want to impress upon their teachers as to how they have transformed themselves irrespective of the fact that they were not in the good books of their teachers and many of their comments during classroom question and answer sessions, teaching moments, class works, assignments and on other occasions have been proved wrong.
Some of the students will also try to highlight, the fact, to the teachers that their strict obedience as well as adherence to teacher’s instruction has borne the desired fruit and they are extremely indebted and grateful to them.
There will also be philanthropists who would like to attend the School Reunion to find out how their surplus funds could be best utilized for the well-being of the school which will keep his name and that of his family for a pretty long time.
In Jackson we have a character who has not been attending the School Reunion. On enquiring by his friends, relatives, present colleagues, old colleagues in college, old school mates, the standard response has been, time is still not ripe for me to attend the School Reunion.
Many of Jackson’s friends, relatives, colleagues, school mates, colleges buddies, hostel roommates, seniors, juniors, teachers and other staff have on numerous occasions, showed him photographs, videos that highlights the various moods, anxious moments, tempting spotlights, trying to seduce him and reminding him of the passage of time and precious occasions, pointing to the teachers, classmates who may not available on future meets and reunions.
Jackson feels bad about it but still insistent on not attending as for him the time is still not ripe. Jackson probably has something to achieve before he considers himself worthy of being a member of the School Reunion. Jackson might be feeling that he has not reached to his potential which he hopes to in not so long a future.
Jackson also wants to set an example and wants his classmates feel, life is a relay race and the winner is not the one who began well but the one who ended the best. For the substantiation this argument he feels he has far more to achieve and hopes to achieve this goal of his with the sincerity, hard work and the support of the Almighty God.
Jackson wants to be the one person who has surpassed all expectations of his class mates, teachers, friends, relatives and the School which initiated him into the field of education and did all it can to prepare a foundation which is strong enough to achieve a goal for which the sky is not the limit.
Jackson is also of the opinion that School is the place and School Reunion is a perfect occasion but only after he reaches the zenith of his lifetime achievement. He has had the opportunity to see on television, films, at various social gatherings, official meetings, national days, international forums, where people are conferred with lifetime achievement awards in all kinds of fields and activities, may it be sports, art, painting, films, acting, dramatics, safety and security, army, Olympics, tournaments, award ceremonies and literary festivals.
Jackson is now obsessed with the glamour and grace of the Lifetime Achievement that he is very patiently and trying to put his best foot forward so that he can also claim the Lifetime Achievement Award in one of the School Reunion. That too Jackson would like to achieve in a field that is rare and he should be able to set a benchmark that will lift the standard to a very high level and he should be able to wear the crown for a very, very, very, very long time and it should be a record for the School which is studied and the School be known to the world by his name Jackson’s school.
