The Beasts

Prologue

There once was a wonderful forest with beautiful animals of all kinds, shapes, and sizes. There was a deer who watched over the forest. His name was Lagro. And his pal Echo the wolf. But that was that back then and now is now. The forest had become quiet and lonely. Echo had left Largo and Largo was nowhere to be found. And now it’s a dark scary wood, instead of the peaceful one it once was. And that is where our story begins.

  Chapter one, The disappearance 

     Largo looks at the damp cave walls of his home and sighs. 

    “So lonely here…” he says. “I guess I’ll go for a walk.” He walked out of his house and shook his antlers around. “Ah, fresh air” he looks around and usually there would be animals everywhere but, to his surprise, there were none. “That’s odd,” he says to himself. He continues on into the woods.

“I’ll go find Echo, she’d know what to do” he makes his way to Echo’s house.

He sees the house and slams his antlers against the door. Lightly, but sharply. “Hey, Echo, you there?” 

“Who’s asking?” Says a voice.

“Largo.”

An all gray wolf with one blue and other green eye answers the door. “Good to see yah. But, why are you here?”

“Have you seen any animals other than me anywhere?”

“No, now that you mention it, no I haven’t.” Echo looks like she was thinking this through.

“Well I thought you’d know but, I guess we gotta find them.”

“Yeah just lemme get my things and I’ll be right out. I don’t want you ruining my door like last time.”

“Ok. Just hurry.”

Echo runs inside and grabs her things.

Chapter Two, Journey

 Echo comes out with food, a bag of things, (Largo had no idea what was in it. But on the other hand, he had no idea what Echo was doing) and a weird looking flute thing.

“Ready?” Largo asks. 

“Yup” says Echo. “Let’s get moving.”

They journey around the woods and not even birds are chirping. 

“It’s so quiet and strange.” Echo says with a worried tone.

“The forest has never been this quiet before.” Replies Largo.

They then see a bear cub on the ground shivering in the cold. 

“Aww.” Says Echo. “A bear cub!”

“He looks cold,” says Largo.

The bear cub makes a weird noise and then sneezes.

“Awwwww he’s gotta witle cowld,” Echo uses her baby voice.

“Come here little one.” Says Largo, completely ignoring Echo and her baby talk.

The bear inches closer and then grabs onto Largo’s antlers. 

“Hehe!” The bear says cutely.

Largo carefully bends his neck back so the bear can ride on top of Largo’s brown back.

“Wonder where it came from.” Says Echo.

“Probably lost,” replies Largo.

“My mama is gone.” Says the little cub. Echo and Largo listen to the bear cub. “She was taken.”

“By what?” Asks Echo eagerly.

“I’m not sure. But it was big and scawy. Anyways my name is Journey. And you are?”

“I’m Largo and this is Echo.”

“Oh ok nice to meet yah!”

“You too little one!” Says Echo. 

Chapter Three, Blood

Well after that, Journey had become a wonderful joy to Largo and Echo’s liking. She was great company and helped them find their next clue. 

“What is it?” Asks Largo.

“Looks like a hedgehog. But, it looks dead.” Echo answers. Journey paws at the hedgehog slowly and sits beside it. 

“It’s alive,” Journey says. “It just has internal bleeding. It won’t survive.” 

“What, or who did this!?” Exclaims Echo. Largo looks closely at it. 

“Wait, Echo, scratch me lightly on the leg.” Largo says.

“What?!” Yells Echo.

“Just do it.” Reply’s Largo.

“Ok, you asked for it.” Echo says. She lightly scratches the deer’s ankle. Largo puts his new wound on beside the hedgehog and Echo looks closely as well as Largo.

“It’s a wolf. Just as I thought.” Largo smiles.

“But, my scratches are way smaller, this one is bigger than any I’ve ever seen.”

“It also looks like there’s black around the scratch and I’ve never seen anything like it.” Says Journey.

“Well, lets go...” says Largo, clearly uncomfortable.
