Fiction Fantasy

“Alright Mrs. Mason,” went the officer as he stared at the young woman before him, her fragile appearance and feeble mind seem to not wish to interact with anyone nor has she attempted to speak with anyone on what had happened earlier today. “Mrs. Mason,” he went again this time catching a glimpse of life within her jade-green eyes, “I understand that you have been through a lot and I understand you seem stressed about this, but I must implore you to answer us.” A shaky sigh escaped her pink yet cracked lips, “I apologies officer,” she said softly and timidly, “I just find this surreal and still trying to process all of this.”

“Mrs. Mason, I understand you are currently stressed and wish for some answers regarding your husband, but you must explain to us what lead to that point.” He then opened a file showing pictures of her and her husband, both explain their information and species within the city program. “Your husband is a hybrid right? Half man, half animal right?” he asked looking up from the document to her, “yes,” she plainly answered as she lifted her cup to her dry lips. “Alright, let’s back track a bit,” went the officer as he slap the file down and folded them neatly over the table, “let’s start with what had happened before the incident, mind sharing what you did this morning?”

Mrs. Mason gave a solemn smile and just allowed herself to relax slightly before she began her morning routine involving her getting dress for the day and gathering ingredients for breakfast, but not before she made a trip to their garden where she gather a bouquet of flowers for their table in the kitchen, decorating with Violets, white daisies, and some Canterbury bells… her husband’s favorite flower; she quickly rushed inside rather excited to surprise her husband with a good breakfast since he didn’t have work that day and would be able to relax and enjoy the day with her. However just as she put the bouquet of blooms within their new home, she had heard a rather large noise that shook the walls of their home; believing the worse she rushed down the hallway into the bedroom she shared with her husband to see if anything may have happened.

Only to see that their once tidy and organized room had now been ransacked and disarray of belongings which spilled over the floor. “Fredrick,” she called out earning the attention of the figure near their dressers, “what happened? Why is our bedroom in a mess?” she asked as she approached the male, but he didn’t answer her and simply just brushed her aside and continued to search the bedroom. “Please honey, tell me what happened?” she begged this time catching his canary-yellow eyes at her, “I had a bag…” he went as his voice grew frantic and anxious, “I had a bag near in my desk beside our bed, I woke up to take it out and now it is gone!” he paced back and forth in front of her.

“It might be here somewhere,” she said though she wasn’t so sure herself, but what was this bag her husband seem so desperate to find, “somewhere! But not here, I have to find it Eloise!” he let out a snort revealing his animal side showing through. “Dearie, I understand you wish to find it, but calm down first, you know how you get when you get frustrated,” she said while approaching the male, but he ignore her plead and quickly began stomping his hooves down the hallway and into the closet tearing out anything that may seem unimportant to his small mission,

The phrase “where is it?” continue to escape his mouth as his voice began to grow more and more agitated with time.

Eloise just watch helplessly as he husband continue to tear their small home to shreds in hopes to find this “bag” he desperately looking for, “WHERE IS IT!?” he screeched causing her to slightly jump out of her skin. Fredrick now went into the kitchen tossing out drawers and was swinging cabinets open almost tearing it off its hinges, “Fredrick calm down!” she begged as she took hold of his forearm in hopes to stop him destroying their furniture, however it did not go her way. Fredrick still angered by the missing “bag” flung his wife across the room and caused her to land terribly onto the table where the glass vase shattered to pieces and pierced her arms as she try to break her fall. Blood now staining the floorboards and her pastel yellow dress she had worn just for him, however her dress was the lease of her concerns. His canary eyes zeroed in on her bloodied form, sending a shiver down her spine as his focus became more and more animalistic than human.

“Fredrick,” she went as she slowly tries to get up with the help of the wall, “honey it’s me, Eloise, remember? Your wife?” she nervously tries and sooth out his animal nature, but all it did was alert him to her movements. She quickly shield her bloody arms from his view as she try to slide against the wall towards the door, however this seem to go unnoticed by him and without a second though he twisted his body around to launch his claws right at her pitiful form.

Without missing a beat she dodged his attack and ran from the beast that was her husband quickly running through the hallway in hopes to reach the door, she could feel her husband’s claws just inches away from head. However she manage to get to the bedroom and slammed the door pushing the large storage cabinet at the door where it possibly could hold him off for now, “I need help,” she whispered as the growls from the other side grew fierce. She looked through the window that lead to their garden outside and recall that east of them was their neighbor which wasn’t far 15 minutes to walk, but 5 minutes if she ran from her house to theirs.

With that in mind she quickly opened the window and slipped out between the panels eyeing the door that continue to move violent with each bang from her husband. However she knew she couldn’t help him now; once she got out she ran through her wild roses and water down mud then she quickly opened the fenced to escape the perimeter before her husband could find out what exactly had happened and breach out of the house.

“So that’s what happened,” she answered slightly a little calmer now that she told the officer her story, though she was confused about why her husband became so feral, “what happened to my husband and why did he act so violently towards me,” she asked earning a long stare from the officer. Though the man seemed rather stressed and rather tired, “okay it appears to me your husband had recently gone through “Chimera’s Rage” and that was why he seemed to be frantic at the time. However due to you begging him to answer you caused him to lash out and in results injuring you and releasing his feral side,” he said.

“Chimera’s… that makes no sense, my husband never had such an issue before, why would it happened now?” she went almost raising her voice at the officer. The officer however didn’t respond and just took his mug of coffee then began downing the concoction within its hold, “spring cleaning was yesterday right?” he asked suddenly.

“Yes, but what does that have to do with my husband’s outburst?” she asked gripping the cup in her hands tightly, “well,” he went as he lifted a prescription bottle labeled “LavenX” and sat the bottle right in front of her, “you know what this is?” he asked. She carefully turned the bottled towards her and read the description labeled on the bottle, “It is for calming down beast men, right?” she went, “I saw these yesterday at the store, but I didn’t think much of it.” The officer remained quiet for a time staring at her as if he hoped she would tell him more, but nothing came up, “these purple little pills,” he went taking the bottle back to empty it out in his hand, “these are prescribed to Beast men in case they feel their instincts go in hard drive, many doctors have given this medicine to many Beast men, but it isn’t always prescribed that is why pharmacies around this area sells them over the shelf.”

“So…” she was stunned, “are you implying that I threw away his pills, but I could have seen them!” she shot up from her seat, “I would have never threw throw them away if it was important to him.” The man before didn’t flinch just simply held the pill in his hand and allowed it to roll around the edges of his palm. “He probably was embarrassed to let you know about his struggles and so decided to keep it from you,” Eloise remained quiet for a time slowly seated herself down as she try and recall what she had done, but she didn’t recall ever through the bottle out nor did she come across it.

“The bag…” she whispered casting her eyes to the officer who let out a chuckle through his nose, “I didn’t know what they were for so I just threw them out,” already beginning to feel her voice crack at that realization. “Don’t worry,” went the officer, “ as of now, your husband is being treated for the “Chimera’s Rage” and will be released from the hospital within 24 hours, however I would advise you both seek counseling separately and then a marriage counselor,” he went rising from his seat. He then took out two cards from his pocket and slide it towards her, “I suggest you shouldn’t ignore this advice, today you got lucky, most victims of the Chimera’s rage don’t make it,” he went solemnly as he then left her alone in the room with only the cards as her company for now.
