My story is titled In a tea house.


The tea house which is also known as the tea room is an establishment which primarily serves tea and other light refreshments.

Also the tea room is a room set aside in a hotel especially for serving afternoon tea or may be an establishment which only serves cream teas.

The tea house often serves as centers of social interaction like the coffee house.

Also the tea house is the place which offers tea to it's customers. People often gather at the tea house to socialize and then enjoy tea.

Almost young people often meet at the tea house for dates. Tea was also used as a social drink. It was believed that some Buddhist monks drank tea as aid to their meditation.

Tea was introduced in China as a medicinal herb. Also tea helped the Buddhist monks in their meditation by providing the energy needed to always stay awake. Tea was also popularized as a common place beverage.


As according to the Japanese tradition, the tea house ordinarily refers to a private structure designed for holding Japanese tea ceremonies.

This tea house is a structure where the tea ceremony takes place and is mainly known as chashitsu which literally means the tea room.

The architectural space of the tea house is called chashitsu which was created for aesthetic and intellectual fulfillment by then.

Also in Japan the tea house is mainly referred to as an ochaya that often served tea incidentally.

There are modern tea rooms known as kissaten that serves tea as well as coffee.

Again these tea houses which first emerged during the British era often served milk tea and other variety of delicacies ranging from native dishes like mohinga to Indian fritters.

Most tea shops have traditionally served as venues akin to traditional salons.

Again most tea houses serve several beverages in addition to tea.

In the U.K. the tea room is a small room or restaurant where beverages and other light meals are served ,they often have a sedate or subdued atmosphere.

The food served in the tea house can range from a Cream tea also known as Devonshire tea.


However in Scotland teas are usually served with a variety of scones ,pancakes , crumpets and other cakes.

The tea room in the tea house is a workplace meant also for the relaxation and eating during tea breaks.

It is also noted that in the tea house ,there are tea rooms which are popularly noted in some Commonwealth countries like Canada.

Again tea is often consumed in the Commonwealth countries.

Also in France ,the tea room in the tea house is called Salon de the,where pastries and other cakes are also served.

In addition having a separate tea house is a tradition in many countries in Europe.

The tea house was designed as a venue for people to gather for the purpose of drinking tea that was often combined with other activities.

Again the function of the tea house varies widely depending on the culture. Tea was mainly used as drinks to accompany meals.


A tea culture emerged which included venues designed specifically around the serving and drinking of tea.

The tea house or rooms varies considerably just as the occasions upon which tea is served vary both within and across cultures.

Also the tea house serves as a relaxed social gathering of women to meetings where business or politics may be agreed upon to the formal tea ceremony in Japan.

Again the serving of tea has a multitude of purposes and styles that span so many aspects of life.

Tea is served and consumed with bread or biscuit.

Tea house were developed around the world as the drinking of tea became popular.

In China the tea house is mainly a focus of social life, a place where business could be conducted, entertainment by professional storytellers, jugglers,poets and other actors could be enjoyed. The tea house is a place where friends can relax and have casual conversation.


Also tea is known as a family event and is mostly served after each meal with sugar and lemon and an assortment of jams , pastries and other confections.

In some Asia countries , there are tea houses. Other Western influence led to the popularity of tea houses.

There were tea houses in Britain.

The purpoted health benefits of tea also made interest in new styles of tea room in tea houses.

Again tea was served in the finest Hotels in Moscow.

Tea is said to originate in Asia.


In China ,a tea house is traditionally quiet similar to the American Cafe.

People often gather at the tea house to then chat, socialize and then enjoy tea.

In the Northern Imperial China tea houses were regarded as retreats for gentlemen and later for businessmen.


The tea houses are also places where disputes could be settled harmoniously over tea.

The rooms where tea ceremonies are performed is known as chashitsu which literally mean tea room.

There are two types of chashitsu that are free standing structures often containing several rooms known as tea houses in English and rooms located within dwellings or other buildings often set aside for tea ceremony known as tea rooms.

Also these tea rooms are usually small and are found inside tea houses as well as in private homes, temples, shops and other institutions.

Often merchants practiced the tea ceremony, they sought some simplicity and then tranquility.

Tea houses usually consists of two rooms the mizuya , where the host prepares food , snacks and tea supplies.


The tea room had walls, ceiling ,pillars and even tea utensils of gold.

Almost tea houses were located in remote quiet areas but today are found in garden or grounds of larger houses.

Also very large tea houses such as those that can be found in parks or those of large tea shops such as Urasenke may have several tea rooms of different sizes.

There is a large well equipped mizuya resembling a modern kitchen ,a large waiting room for guests , a welcoming area where guests are often greeted and can remove and store their shoes, separate toilet for men and women , a changing room and several anterooms.

These tea houses can accomodate dozens of guests and other several simultaneous tea ceremonies.

Also in Japan a tea house can also refer to a place of entertainment and are typically very exclusive establishment.


The Ochaya which are tea houses are mostly wooden structures. The windows of these tea houses have lattices (Bengara goshi) on the ground floor and the reed screens on the first floor to protect the privacy of clients.

There is a visual ambience of Korean tea houses.

Most tea houses in Korea had their own water springs that provided water mainly for tea.


In the U.K. a tea house has tea rooms where beverages and light meals are served. However in Scotland teas are served with a variety of scones and cakes.

The tea room is a room set aside in a workplace for workers to relax and then take some refreshments during work breaks.


In most tea houses a staff member serving food and other beverages is called a Tea lady.

It is noted that Thomas Twining opened the first tea room in 1706.

Other cities offered very expensive and basic tea rooms in 1901.

Miss Cranston's tea rooms became social centers for all businessmen, apprentices, ladies and ladies maids.

Also in 1880 other Hotels in the United States began to offer tea service in tea rooms and tea courts.

As in the United Kingdom ,tea houses and tea rooms also became popular.

Drinking tea became a social event.

Tea became one of the beverages in Russia. Tea is a symbol of hospitality and comfort. China can boast of the best tea houses.

Tea originated in Asia. Tea is available everywhere.

There are Tea houses in Narjung and Suzhou.


In China tea houses were regarded as retreats for gentlemen.

Hotels served tea in the afternoon accompanied by music and dancing.

The city of Chengdu boasts the best tea houses in China.

Tea originated from Asia . Also both India and Sri Lanka are the Worlds largest producer of tea.

Tea houses are places where disputes could be settled harmoniously. The serving of tea have become popular in San Francisco and New York City in the United States of America.

Tea houses usually consists of two rooms one is the Mizuya , where the host prepares food, snacks and tea supplies.

The other room is meant for the holding of tea ceremonies.


Finally, it can be noted that tea houses are located at quiet areas but are more likely to be found in parks.

Tea houses can accomodate a dozens of guests and several tea ceremonies.


One can enjoy tea in an easy formal setting. Miss Catherine Cranston's opened the first of a chain of Miss Cranston's tea rooms in Glasgow in the United Kingdom.

Also fine Hotels in the USA offered services in tea rooms and tea courts and they hosted tea dances. They also offered refreshment for travellers.


Lastly ,I will like to add that tea houses may be used to refer to a restaurant. Tea houses that has the tea rooms are commonly found in Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Friends do gather at the tea house to the talk or play chess whilst drinking tea.

Lest I forget some teachers are often than not appreciated for offering quiet environments with pleasant music.
