Coming of Age

Once there was this man. He was a busy, busy man. He was the type who almost never had enough time. A workaholic by nature, George was a very hardworking man.

George Hickinson seemed to have everything going for him. He seemingly had a great job, a salary with lots of zeroes, a penthouse apartment, and every thing someone with a lot of money could ever ask for.

The only problem was, he didn't seem to have enough time to slow down and observe the little things.

He was overweight, never got time for himself, and smoked a cigar nearly everyday. George was interested in making big bucks, and being the best version of himself at work.

His life was indeed very fast. It was like he didn't know to slow down! As if his job weren't enough he loved to take on side hustles that earned him even more money. He clearly was a very organized man. And one intent on making alot of money!

One day someone suggested he get a girlfriend. He didn't know this was going to change his life forever.

George didn't know what to make of it. Georged laughed to himself.

Having female company seemed like a good idea, because everyone was doing it.

He decided to agree with his friends. So his friends set him up on a blind date, which he attended ofcourse.

The woman was different. She was a lot more different from the kind of person he was or expected. Knowing his friends, and kind they were, he was surprised that instead of wearing something revealing, she was dressed like what high school students would call a bit of a nerd.

Jayne Orwell openly admitted she was an introvert who loved to read. George was a little surprised since he expected a different sort of date.

Thanks to her apparently quiet nature, the two of them went together really well. She laughed at literally every joke he made, and was a really good listener.

It was a really awesome date.

George had previously thought she was more of an extrovert because she looked so darn good. Her hair, make up and dressing sense seemed on point.

However the more George spoke to her, he understood why she really was the introvert she claimed she was.

She also told him that she was spiritual, loved going to Church, and actually made reading the Bible and praying a significant part of her daily routine.

They both went to their appartments after the date, as different people. But George couldn't help but like Jayne and every thing she seemed to represent.

For once George started to think about his life. He wondered why he kept making so much money, and why he stashed so much of it in the bank. Usually a bit of a miser, George, did not seem to want to spend his money on anything.

Jayne the introvert was putting sense in George's head. George was starting to see things differently. Life wasn't about adding more and more cash to one's bank account anymore. For George life suddenly started to have meaning!

A few weeks later George wondered if Jayne wanted someone to spend lavishly on her. He realized had enough money to burn!

He wondered if his new love interest who happened to be an introvert by nature, would be happy with the idea. He decided to ask her.

"You know Jayne, if there's anything you need, never hesitate to ask me. The money is almost never a problem." Giving her a hint very eloquently.

Jayne Orwell who regularly attended church reacted to his statement very differently. She replied by saying:

"George you know I love you. We've been going out for almost a year now. I'm not the type who ever expects their boyfriend to be their ATM machine."

George couldn't help but smile. His introvert girlfriend was really different from the other women he knew. She was pretty intelligent too, and that's what kept the spark in the relationship alive.

Jayne Orwell and George Hickinson had many marvellous moments together. He started to connect with his inner child. He never felt so happy all his life. He too started to develop a love for reading and doing small quiet less mainstream things that brought joy and satisfaction even though they didn't pay that well.

They both decided they would go on holiday. Jayne owned a remote cabin in the woods. George was fine with living there for a few days. For once in his life, George went on leave. It was the first time for this workaholic, he previously never went on vacation!

One day George and Jayne were sitting near the window. Jayne asked him :

"Can you hear that?"

"No, not really do you hear something?"

" Yes, the sound of the rain" Jayne replied.

"Oh, now I hear it too" George said.

George had never quietened himself enough to hear the sound of the light drizzle. Jayne taught him to not fear but understand the sound of crickets in the night. George found these little weird but wonderful things fascinating.

Jayne and George lived in Jaynes remote cabin in the woods for 2 weeks. There they did some gardening almost every day, cooked with fruit and vegetables from the local farm, and went fishing in the nearby pond.

George never had so much fun all his life. He found that connecting with his inner child was easier when life was less fast-paced.

The two weeks in the cabin in the woods went by faster than expected!

George felt his energy to get back to work was renewed. He also decided to go on a diet, and to do a little exercise atleast 3 days a week.

George was a different man! He owed it all to Jayne for putting these ideas in his head!

Soon Jayne and George Hickinson were married. Jayne took George to church every Sunday. George lost a lot of weight just for Jayne. Even though they both live in New York, they return to Jaynes cabin in the woods every now and then.

That is how George got his groove back!
