"Hey, Summer look at this!" Maryann exclaimed pointing to a flyer on the school's bulletin board as she stopped in front of it. "October 2nd at 6:00pm, meet in the band room. In 3 weeks, they're starting a choir for anyone to join! This is your chance to finally learn how to sing!"

"Maryann, you know my mom does not want me to sing, ever. If she ever found out, she would kill me!"

"I know your mom Summer, and you know I think your mom is absolutely crazy. You are at college now and not under her wing; where your mom would never find out unless you go and text her yourself," Maryann huffed lightly. "Pleassseee. One club meeting, try it out and if you find you don't like it then you don't have to do it ever again," she begged with a smile.

Summer pondered while looking at the flyer. "No, yeah you're right. I don't know why my mom is so crazy about it. Singing isn't evil."  What could it hurt? she thought.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Maryann cheered and hugged her as they continued to walk out of the building. "This will be so much fun!"

"Yeah, it will," Summer smiled. "Well, have a good night my best friend and I will see you tomorrow before class," Summer laughed.

"Goodnight!" Maryann replied giddily as she trotted to her dorm.

                                              *********

Summer leaned back from the mirror satisfied her eye makeup cleaned up so easy when she heard a knock on her door. Leaving the bathroom, she turned right and opened the door.

"Are you ready to sing?" Maryann sang.

"Yes I am," she said excitedly as they left the dorm room and headed out the building.

Squirrels chased each other across the lawn as the duo walked up the path to the music building. Maryann hummed to herself while Summer looked around taking in the beautiful fall day. As the girls walked Summer began to feel anxiety. Summer had the feeling that today was going to be a life-changing day and she wasn't sure if it was for the good or bad.

"Hey, look at that," Maryann elbowed Summer as they neared the music building. "Matt is joining the choir too," her eyes smiled. "This is your chance to cuddle up to him," she winked and joked and Summer blushed hard.

"Shush," she giggled, and the girls pushed the doors open to enter the lobby.

"Good evening," said an older woman with a lanyard. "If you're looking for the choir meeting, the band room is to the right, down the hall, Room 222."

"Thank you," the girls smiled simultaneously and continued walking towards the back of the lobby to the hallway.

"This is awesome, we've never been in a club for singing," Maryann said excitedly. "This will look good on our college transcripts and maybe this will help us with our creativity for our writing Summer!"

"I know right. I guess this is the time to find out my mom was wrong," she chuckled.

"Hello ladies," said a smiley tall man. Please sign your name on this sheet of paper," he said pointing to the clipboard on the table in front of him, "so I know who is joining us today. Next to the page, there is also some papers explaining what this group is, what we will be doing and events we will be singing at." he motioned. "Then please find a spot on the bleachers and we will begin in five minutes."

The girls signed their names on the paper and made their way to the bleachers. To Summer's surprise, there's a spot open right next to Matt and she knew by the look on Maryann's face that she noticed it too. Maryanne winked at her in grabbed her arm and pulled her to stand next to him.

"Hey Summer, hey Maryanne," Matt greeted them.

"Hey," Summer replied unsure what to say next.

Maryanne saved her by saying, "remember what I showed you. How to change your voice when you sing and just watch and listen to what everyone else is doing first."

"Yes. Thank you, Maryann," she said just before the teacher clapped signaling for their attention.

"Alrighty class let's get this started," the choir teacher said enthusiastically. "Hello everyone, my name is Mr. Tides will be your choir teacher if you didn't already guess," he smirked. "Since this is in an extracurricular club, we do need to see good attendance for it to be put on your transcript. We don't want you guys missing more than five sessions unless there are special circumstances. You guys also do not have to attend events. We will be singing at places like the Franklin Music Hall, but your attendance is not required for those. If you have any questions or comments, please see me after this meeting. Thank you for joining me today everyone," he said warmly as went to grab a stack of papers off his desk in the back of the room.

"I would like to do a couple different exercises for this first meeting, and we will end with a very popular song called 'I wish'." Hearing that, all the students started to fidget excitedly. "Here are the lyrics to the song. Please pass these around," he smiled and handed the pile to the student closest to him.

"Now, I would like to start off with some vocal exercises,'' he prompted and sat at the piano in the middle of the room.

At first, Summer watched and listened as everyone joined in on the vocal exercises. Eventually, she was able to catch onto it and she was singing to. As the class sang Do Re Mi, she could feel energy build up inside her with every note she sang. Summer loved every minute of it and realized she loved to sing and that her mom was wrong for trying to stop her. It made her feel confident and powerful and from the look on Maryann's face, she could tell that she wasn't doing a bad job either.

Then came the end of the meeting. "Is everyone ready to sing 'I wish'?" Mr. Tides asked.

"Yeah!" the class exclaimed.  Summer knew the song pretty well like everyone else, so the beat wasn't hard to follow.

As the song started, she sang along and the song made her think of Matt. As she came to the lyrics, 'I wish you would kiss me,' she felt her desire for Matt and pictured him turning to kiss her, and she sang it out. As soon as she finished singing 'kiss me' Matt suddenly turned towards her and grabbed her and kissed her.

After a few seconds, the teacher finally noticed and stopped playing the music and Matt pulled away with immense shock on his face. "Uh excuse me, young man, I know music can bring out the passion in us, but this is not the time nor place for that," he stated.

"Oh my god, Summer. I am so sorry. I do not know what came over me," he said before running out of the band room and Summer just stood there in utter disbelief.

"What the frick just happened?" Maryann exclaimed.

"I don't know, I need to go NOW," Summer said hastily and pulled Maryanne with her off the bleachers and into the hallway and Summer kept speed walking without a word until she got back to her dorm.

"Summer! Can you talk to me now? What the heck just happened there? Why did Matt kiss you?! Oh my god, Matt kissed you! Did you like it? Was it good?" Maryanne laughed.

"Wait, Yes, it was good, better than I could have thought, but that is not the point Maryann. I don't know why he kissed me! All I know is that I was thinking of him and wanting him to kiss me as we were singing and as soon as I finish saying 'I wish you would kiss me,' he does it! What the fraggle rock just happened," she said astonished and collapsed on her bed with her hands on her face.

The room was quiet as they thought for a minute. "Summer," she paused, "I don't know, you might think I'm crazy for saying this, but do you think maybe you made it come true?"

"This is one incident, that does sound crazy. Maybe Matt did just feel really passionate at the moment and he didn't look at who he was kissing first," she chuckled hysterically.

"Summer, something feels off, try it again. Please listen to me and sing again. Sing, 'I really wish I had a cheeseburger' and visualize it."

           "Maryann..."

"Please. And if it doesn't work, we will know I'm wrong."

"Fine, okay," Summer breathed closing her eyes and held her hands out.

"I really wish I had a cheeseburger," she sang to the melody of 'I wish' and visualized a large burger down to the last pickle and sesame seed. Suddenly she felt weight appear in her hands and she opened her eyes.

"Oh, my, god, it's a cheeseburger," she stated amazed.

"Summer you did it!" Maryann exclaimed in shock. "I am frightened, but holy crap Summer! You can make things appear when you sing! As soon as this shock disappears, I will be jealous. This is amazing."

"This is why my mother told me to never sing," Summer concluded astounded as she stared straight ahead.

"So, she knows and she's not so crazy after all."

"Yep," she replied without a blink.
