Casper Tries A New Thing That’s Quite Helpful

Once upon a time in a huge metropolis called Danville, Va., there lived a young man named Casper. He was constantly getting teased about his name by his classmates, neighbors, Cub Scout pack and even Church people. They'd say, "Hay, Casper! You sure do look like a friendly ghost" or, "Teach me to, 'casp' so I can hang with you!" and other comments which were even worse than those. For a while he tried to shrug it off, but the teasing about his name continued getting more intense all the way through his school years. In fact, quite often it would end up with him finally getting fed up and punching the kid who said those hateful words, then he always got in trouble for it. His parents told him he was named after his great grandfather whom he never knew. If the kids didn't get a reaction from him, they’d change to punching them, then he would end up getting in trouble for fighting even though it was not his fault by any means. When he asked his parents why he was given that name they told him, "We wanted to give you an original name that nobody else in your school would have. That's why!"

Yet he still didn't feel any better about constantly getting in trouble because of having that funny name. When he went home from school with a black eye, a bloody nose and a swollen-up lip his parents would always want to know why that kept happening so frequently, he'd always shrug his shoulders and say, "Oh, I don't know. Maybe it happened when I fell running up the steps." That fooled them for a while, but when it kept happening every day, his parents wanted some concrete answers which were more believable. When it began happening every day, his parents got suspicious thinking nobody could be all that clumsy. That’s when they got extremely suspicious about what went on in his school, and why their son was constantly coming home all beat up at the end of every single day and he wouldn’t give them a story that was believable.

Finally his daddy got suspicious and asked his teacher to tell him the reason for his son always coming home all beat-up. Of course, she didn't know anything about it, but was also concerned about why he was constantly afraid to go outside unless a teacher would be with him. Then when his parents got extremely irritated at constantly seeing him come home worse than he was when he left for school that morning so they'd question the teachers. Of course, they had no idea, and since Casper wasn't saying anything believable, they knew something was wrong about the public school system and they needed to know what it was immediately.

Then one day Casper broke down sobbing and told them the reason was because of his name they'd given him. That made them both feel quite guilty and regretted giving him that name. In the meantime, he continued to come home with new marks on his body from the recent skirmishes he'd just had in school. His parents were suspicious, wondering why it kept happening so frequently. They simply could not accept it if their only son, whom they were both so extremely proud of because he had inherritte the best from both of them, which was cool. He had his mom’s pretty, red-hair, gorgeous looking, sense of humor, desire to visit lots of far-away places and ability to memorise things so easily like play lines and all the speeches he’d written.

Then one day when he came home with his hand in a sling, his daddy got mad and insisted on getting a major apology from the school board for allowing their son to get beat up so frequently. That's when he signed him up to take Karate classes. Since Casper was so eager to master his self-defense mechanism that it became his favorite activity. That was a new thing he was trying since he had never done anything like it before. Still, his parents were both quite impressed that he was trying to learn a new thing. Yet because he was the smallest student in his whole class, he still got beat up, but at least then he was learning how to protect himself better. Each evening when his daddy got home from work, he would ask him what he'd learned that day. Then Casper would show him some moves he was working on getting the hang of. Since it was a new thing he was trying, his daddy encouraged him to keep on trying to improve himself and pay attention in class so he could learn everything his sensei had for him. Soon it reached the point where Casper would volunteer to be the one his instructor used to demonstrate how to punch and block all the new kicks and punches he was teaching them. All of those other students would laugh whenever he would get kicked or punched and couldn't block them in time, but they didn't realize that every time Casper was learning more than the other kids who were taking the class. Soon it reached the point where he could actually beat some of the bigger and better kids in the class. When his daddy would come pick him up he'd be black and blue from playing the dummy that the other classmates were working on. They didn’t realize he was learning more about how to defend himself by demonstrating those things.

Then one day when his daddy came to pick him up from class, he got caught in a major traffic jam just outside of the dojo. He could see Casper and saw 3 bullies hitting him with both of their hands at the same time. When they had backed him up far enough to where nobody could see them except one daddy who was helplessly watching as they kept punching him.

Finally Casper had taken all he could so he turned and punched one of the bullies right in the stomach so hard it knocked him down out of surprise, and he hit the other guy right in the chest using the technique his since had taught him, which made him bend over in pain then fell, so there were 2 guys on the ground. That’s when Casper’s daddy honked his horn violently to get his attention. He recognized that honk so he ran to get in the car, leaving the 2 stunned bullies down on the ground. As he got in the car, his daddy smiled saying, “I’ve never been more proud of you than I am right now, son! It’s obvious you pay attention in Judo class! Hallelujah for that!”

A tremendous smile went all the way across Casper’s face when he heard how his daddy was so pleased with him. That warm-fuzzy was the greatest thing he could have given him.

“Gee! Thanks, Daddy!” Casper replied, feeling much better about himself, knowing that he’d actually done something quite major in order to make his daddy say those words to him. Not only was he teachable about some things, but he had actually made his daddy happy. What started out as a really bad day had just turned into something which put smiles on the good guys faces. Oh, and by the way, he never did see any ot those terrible bullies again since he had earned their respect as well. This story has a good maurel to it. I can say that because it actually happened to me, except it occurred when I was a white belt. Some people will call me Merrol, (as in Lynch), because I’m, “bullish on America.” That is also what those people are full of, (“bull”), but, (and I do mean, “but,” like what a billy goat will do to you unless you stay away from him). Oh, and by the way, I live not too far away from The City Of 7 Hills, “Lynch”-burg, Va. , that is if you don’t mind being being, “lynched.” Now, r. s. v. p.. Thank you. By, Cuz Roye.
