I huffed a quick and raspy breath before I was instantly pinned down to the ground again. “C’mon Princess, just tell us where he is. All your troubles will be over with. Just one sentence could potentially save your life,” came the rough mocking voice of my current captor.“I already told you, I don’t know where he is,” I said between gasping breaths. “Oh, but you do, Rayla, you know you do,” he said as he crushed my ribs with his foot.I heard an unnerving crack, and a burning pain ran down my side.“If our torture isn’t enough to ge...
I woke up in a freezing cold dungeon. No, literally, the cell walls were made of ice. Two snow leopards paced outside my cell. One had a war scar across its eye and down it's muzzle. The other’s tail was reduced to a stub and it was missing a hind leg. The events of the previous evening slowly started to come back to me, how the Ice Queen imprisoned me deep down in her ice castle, how Dameian and I risked everything for this mission, and finally how my parents looked at me like a piece of trash and threw me out like garbage. I shivered ...
Please read the first part first and take into notice that this is from the author's perspective :)“Mom! I’m soooo bored. I don’t know what to do,” I called from my bedroom. “Well, how about you write about something, Trinity?”“I’m tired of writing, mom. Writers need a break too, you know.”“Gotcha, gotcha. How about you draw something?”“Like what?”“How about characters from your past stories?” “Ooh, that’s a great idea, thanks mom!”“No problem. I’ll be in the guest room if you need me.”“Mhm,” I said automatically. By this point, I ...

You sit at the wooden desk that you built yourself. Your blank google doc stares at you, ever so intimidating. You glance at the clock, which is your first mistake. It is already four o’clock. Where did that hour go?You sigh to yourself. You have the idea to google writing prompts. Apparently, that’s not what you are supposed to do during writer’s block. It feels like something inside of you was trying to escape, like a caged zoo animal wanting freedom. But no matter how much it roared and screamed and shaked the cage, it could not get out. Y...
I floated into the parlor. Everyone was there just like we agreed. I scanned the crowd. Stella, Susie, Philip, Kelly from the moose family were here. Winter, Max, Alicia, and Believer were here from the dog and wolf family. Tony from the deer family. Jay from the bird family. Humphrey the worm. Jax the lizard. Mia, Azariah, Tika, Luke, Adalie, Enzo, and Joy from the human family. Don’t ask me why so many shadows came.I walked in between the other mystical beings, examining them. There were lots of ghosts, and spirits and shadows and what not...
The forest waved to me, welcoming me with calm, open arms. I never understood why they thought I was worth anything, but here I stood. I sniffed the wind. It smelled fresh and earthy. My ears perked up and my eyes focused on the scenery around me. I heard the squirrel before I saw it. I clenched my jaw as I realized what was happening. How dare they?I growled, my easy warning sign to stay away. I heard muffled growls and whimpers and other animal noises along with the shuffling of paws.I turned in a slow semicircle. There they were...

The forest was pretty. So...blah. The forest was intriguingly beautiful. Nah… The deep dark forest was very beautiful. Eh… a little better I suppose. The spooky forest was very pleasing to my eyes. Do spooky and pleasing really go together? Who knew. The engrossing grove of trees was prepossessing to my sight. Ooh, now you have my interest. I give you permission to move on. I walked with my head low. Woah, woah, woah, take a break. I mean, ‘I walked with my head low’? Surely you can do better than that. I strode with a frown on m...
In a deep, dark and lonesome place, the moon gave a little light to a darkened countryside. The grass was a never ending sea of pitch black, rippling in the soft breeze. The sky was magnificent as the stars adorned their mother. The breeze shifted slightly, as a child shifted uneasily. The sea of onyx grass stopped their appeasement to the hypnotic wind. The breeze grew stronger, lifting up hopeless leaves and twisting around endless tree trunks. The wind found its way to a little abandoned shack in the middle of a plain. The wind sized up t...

I looked out over the sparkling snowy valley and watched as two deer bounded across it. It was as if they said Hey, want to go bound in the snow today? I took a deep breath of fresh mountain air and turned to go do what I came to do. Ice skate. It was a sport that I loved and nearly thrived on. The forest was all around me, a new layer of snow tested the branches’ weight limit. I sat on a worn log that many before me also used as a seat. I took off my brown hiking boots with white lining and pulled on my skates before my feet froze in my hol...

I ran through the forest, enjoying the fresh mountain air. I felt the warm sun melt on me, on this summer day. I looked behind me, to see my dog running after me. He stopped where I did, his tongue lolling, asking for water, the source of life. We are almost there, boy, I tell him. We walked in silence, his tongue still bouncing as he went. We think about our life thus far, happy and full of good times. Nothing left to lose, except each other, and our past. We continue, down a beaten, worn path that most locals like us use to get to the rive...
