They were all like turtles, carrying their heavy backpacks. Camilla’s shoulders ached carrying her 20-pound backpack full of textbooks and notebooks. She walked over to her dad’s car and dropped her bag in the trunk, making a loud bang. The girl hated carrying so much weight in that bag-- it was the third backpack she got this year after the first two broke because of all the books she had in there. She thought of a way to make it less painful for her, perhaps, a device that would make it seem lighter. Her father said to just leave some of...
They hadn't even reached the place where their date was supposed to be, when Helen started arguing with her boyfriend, Matthew. It was her time of the month, and she was more irritable than usual. Matthew did his best not to let them crash on the highway, with the girl’s yelling in his ear. Everything was supposed to be perfect. Or so he thought.“This better be nicer than the last place we went to! That waiter at that cafe spilled coffee all over my silk dress! The coffee wasn’t even good anyway-”“We had to get reservations in order to get i...
I worked at this place so I could get some money while I was in high school. The furniture shop wasn’t that big, so I couldn’t get that lost easily. I had the night shift, and yes, every now and then some people would come to purchase something. But over the past few weeks, the other employees had been acting strange. Sure, they would always mess around since there wasn’t much to do, but what they did that night was on a whole other level. It was scary as hell, and I couldn’t deal with the night shift anymore. So I quit. My boss begged me to...

The Evil Queen, known as Princess Anne at the time, hated mirrors as a child. She hated the constant reminder of her “ugly face” every time she would pass by the large, round, mirror in her room. Anne was not ugly though. She was so beautiful that her mother, Queen Petra, was jealous of her beauty. Her mother would look at her in disgust, always saying she was disappointed that she ended up having such an ugly daughter. Whenever Princess Anne’s maids and butlers complimented her, she always thought they were lying just to make her feel bette...

I liked being at home. After hearing that we’d have school virtually made me happier. I wouldn’t have to go through the whole getting up at five in the morning, worrying if I had everything for school. Splendid. AND, I can finally get enough vitamin zzzzzz each night. “Rebecca, please get up. You can’t keep waking up at eleven. Now your breakfast is cold.” my mom scolded. “Eh, I’ll eat it later. Lemme sleep for a few more minutes.” “We’re having scones with blueberry jam.” I perked up as she said that. Jumping out of bed with my bla...

Francis was filled with disappointment when he heard that he won't be able to have their same holiday tradition this year. The coronavirus made it difficult to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family in the Philippines, and they couldn't even go outside because of the lockdown. "Ma, how are we gonna celebrate with our family this year?" Francis asked. "With all the technology available, I'm sure we'll work something out." his mother reassured him. The technology in the Philippines was very expensive, and their family would have to work v...

How unfortunate for the only one to witness this murder. Of course, no one would believe the infamous liar, Jacklyn. What made things worse was that the so-called culprit was the person least likely to do it: Charlotte Toussaint. The sweetest girl amongst the group of friends, and if she were a candy, you’d probably get diabetes just by looking at her sweet smile, if not already. So everybody, as usual, thought it was just another one of Jacklyn’s pranks.“I swear! It’s not a joke this time!” she fumed.“That’s exactly what you’d say if you we...

It was Akari's first Halloween in her new form. She watched as her family set up decorations for the wonderful holiday. On the bright side, she didn't have to worry about getting her costume ready, because she was already a ghost. Akari's little brother, Hoshi, looked up at her while holding his bag for trick-or-treating. He wore a Superman costume, with his red cape flapping as he ran around the living room in delight."Akari, aren't you excited for Halloween?" Hoshi grinned."I sure am! But I won't be able to prank my neighbors with my scary...

There have been rumors of the insane girl next door. Everyone has been talking about the time she called the police saying there were ghosts in her house last week. She claimed that the ghosts from the stories that were told when she went camping with her friends were real. Her name was Jesse. When I first moved in, she seemed fine. She'd sometimes be talking to herself, or possibly the "ghosts", she keeps saying. The more my neighbors kept talking about her, my curiosity increased. I watched her movements as I wrote down my observations in ...

When they first met me, it was obvious I wasn't like other girls. At my age, they'd always talk about guys at school. But I was more interested in my apple trees. My passionate interest didn't last very long when one day, I saw him. It was your typical sunny afternoon on a Wednesday, where people would come to purchase my sweet, crisp apples. I liked the weekdays, when it wasn't so busy because everyone was either at school or work. I made sure the apples on display shined like diamonds, wiping each of them carefully and thoroughly. Since t...
Today I saw another flock of birds fly in that weird formation again. It was my first migration, after just learning how to fly last month, so I had no idea what to expect. I continued to stare in awe as the birds flew farther away, growing smaller and smaller, off into the distance. "Dude, quit staring at them like that. You're weirding me out." my best friend, Tiki exclaimed. "It's amazing that they all know exactly where they're going. Don't they ever get lost?" "Well, it's never happened to our group." A strong breeze came along and ...

My parents said I shouldn't have problems with my memory, because I'm too young to forget. I didn't choose to forget, it just happened automatically. Sometimes I could remember a bit of what I did last week. My mother did everything she could to improve my memory, like books to help you remember things easily, medicine, etc. She did so much just to help me, but nothing seemed to work anymore. As I grew older, my forgetfulness became worse and I would have weird dreams each night. I would dream of experiences, and then have them again in real...
