The police sirens blared and swished past me, as if I were a mere phantom invisible to the human eyes. The red and blue lights on the tiny police car seemed like a child’s toy rather than the gravity it was supposed to possess. I could feel adrenaline coursing through my veins, but the rush was surprisingly relaxing. My body was used to this tingling excitement of danger, to play with fire. Literally. The flames danced underneath the soot black sky, as if in a ritual of its own. Smoke filled the air as it got warmer by the heat radiating f...

Shortest stories often have the most beautiful parts, because they aren't lengthy enough to the point that you can already decipher what’s gonna happen next. Or perhaps there are loose ends which you could change into a different interpretation. Or maybe it’s just a piece of brownie- delicious, yet insufficient no matter how many you consume. I was about to write about a sad story, but brownies flipped my frown to a smile. So I guess it will be a happy story now. However, what is a happy story? Should I write about brownies then? No…. How ...

I wiped off my forehead instinctively- more like a habit rather than a need. The stuffy old kitchen, which has bore years old stains of curry stains and sticky sweetness, was then filled with steam and humidness. I could sense the whiff of biryani from the counter, the punchy fragrance of rezala and all other dishes that I had hastily prepared. It smelled of routine tasks and paroles, like a worn-down laptop with dilapidated keys and dimming screen. To me, it was more a duty to be fulfilled, less a kingly meal. I always had this unique qua...

The Sun was sinking slowly into the wide, deep ocean; its faint light desperately clinging to the Earth for a last resort. Ian could feel his grip on the rope tighten, as if he might fall down into the deep watery abyss beneath the ship. The crinkles on his brow resembled the creased waves on the splashing waves of the black sea- haphazard yet somehow rhythmic. Their dilapidated ship drifted across the enormous ocean stealthily. There was nothing except the violet sky above and the black ocean below. The ship seemed to scar the beautiful r...

(A/N: This story is a continuation [Part II] of the previous story, “Escape?” Part II came to mind while listening to BTS after a very long time, so why not pen it down here? Hope you enjoy it!) Follow the sound of the pipe, follow this song…. I'm here to save you, I'm here to ruin you -BTS, Pied Piper (English Translation) ………............... There was a beautiful Moon on the dark blue sky, like a silver platter shining across the green lands. The stars were like freckles on the moonlit sky, like sprinkles of dust on the splashing wate...

“What do you mean?” His voice boomed across the still, silent dining room. His voice seemed dark and deep, with an icy coolness which added sharp ages to every word he uttered. All the heads turned towards him expectantly- some expecting the worst scenario possible, the kinder ones hoping for the opposite. “You know clearly what I mean, brother.” Her voice was slightly above a whisper, but clear enough to reverberate the chamber. Her cold, icy demeanor paralleled with her smooth, sword-sharp skills of speech. The heads turned back at h...

The Sun sets over the sky which is now a palette of orange, yellow, and purple. The stars glimmer timidly across the colorful waves of the cloud, like sparkling dusts. Beneath is a plain green grass plain, with deep foliage and trees. Your eyes adjust to the scene before you- it is breathtakingly beautiful…. And equally horrifying. “Where am I?” you mumble to yourself as you scan the landscape before you. You could no longer feel the warmth of an old edifice, the fragrance of age-old books and the sweet, sweet scent of the warm mil...

1. “Pass me the ball!” Sarah could hear the little girl’s voice in her head, as if she was right there in front of her. Sarah stood in front of a towering skyscraper- a lean, ebony-black majestic edifice designed with modern-era architecture pierced proudly through the ground towards the sky. The cars swished past behind her, like swishes of colors. People kept walking and talking, minding their own worlds and not stopping a moment to spare a glance. Sarah was no different from the crowd. She already had a mountain of stress and work t...

You check the time. Perfect. As intended, you've arrived fashionably late. The plan so far is smooth. You beamed in front of the flashing cameras, swaying your hand gracefully at the paparazzi. Graced and poised, you walk in like a proud peacock into the palace. “Oh, just if he knew,” you smirked to yourself. The grand entrance of the palace was intimidating. The staircase and the floor was made from marble. Red, silk drapes hung on the walls, amidst portraits of different royalties of the past. “The King sure likes grandeur. How…..ancient...

Isn’t it spectacular how the tributaries flow from different areas and drain in the same estuary? This was the last sentence of the last email from Rabeya. A clear, loud, echoing goodbye which I just realized a few moments back. The sky was awfully pale, the breezes awfully chilling. Drops of water dripped from the leaves on the shrubs and trees, and the soil smelled of petrichor. Occasionally a magpie or two would perch on the railing of the veranda and sing short notes. A peaceful aura is cruel when you bear a heavy burden of pain...

"So we made it," Polash tried to strike up a conversation. I looked up towards the star clad sky. They were like pearls of different shapes and color spread carelessly yet ever so in a pattern- so intricate and almost showing a sequence in their hazardous placement. Just like our research. They gleamed in millions down on us petty little beings on one of the planets in this vast Universe. The cool, shivering breezes combed through my messy hair, sending chills down my bones. Despite the cooling effect, it was strangely more like a warm ...
