We met like a lot of people do. At work. When you spend most of your time working, there’s no opportunity to meet anybody else. He probably won’t admit it, but he noticed me first. I was too busy trying to be polite and friendly with everyone to even notice someone having an extra interest in me. I’m not going to lie; he played the game the right way. Like a pro. At first, he just said “Hi” and “we’ll talk later.” Well that made me interested because what could we talk about and why me. I hadn’t even initiated a conversation. From there, he ...

I live in paradise with the girl I love. The view is great, the ocean is great, the time off work is great, but something is missing. We made a big change moving here. We just wanted more time to do what we love. I didn’t realize it would mean me giving up so much of what I loved to do. The new job, well let’s just say its not really my thing. Very stagnant and stationary with coworkers that think they know everything, but they have no clue. I’m sure those types are everywhere nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, I like our change, I just really mi...

Standing outside in the dry heat was getting to Joe. He had thought Vegas was the perfect place for him, but after two months, he wasn’t so sure. Honestly, the money wasn’t what he had expected. Vegas was very alluring with all the pretty lights and all the people always around, but he was barely getting by. He hadn’t been able to land a permanent gig anywhere and was stuck performing on the street with so many others looking just like him, hoping to be noticed by the right person. Sometimes he wished he had never left Manila. The people the...

I just want to scream! Work is frustrating and taking up all my time, the news is depressing like always. I mean, what is this world coming to? I just need an escape and vacation is still a few months off. I used to escape by reading books. They always led me to a magical world. I almost wrote one once when I was in 8th grade, why did I ever give that up? I was so creative back then. Too bad I have no time or energy to write a book now. I guess I missed that opportunity. I wonder if there are any libraries near here. Oh look, there’s on...

“When did you last see the rice? And who has access to the storage?”“O stop Biyu. What does it matter? Whoever it was probably needed it more than the school kids. Everyone knows we are barely getting by as a community; someone must have felt they fell through the cracks and were forgotten.” her mother said“But what if it was somebody else? What if they stole the rice so the kids would starve?”“O Biyu you have a huge imagination. Why don’t you use it for something useful like pottery or carvings? Something we can sell at market. Stop trying ...

As I walked out of the hospital on that cold January day, the snow was falling making the whole world shimmer. Snow turns the world white like its starting anew and then makes it shine and sparkle, a sign of the good that will come. The cold air hits me and its invigorating. It hits my lungs making it hard to breathe, but I don’t care. It feels good to finally breathe in fresh air, unlike the stale air that circulates through the hospital. I’ve been sick for as long as I can remember, and I have spen...
